I use an UV blocker sunbrella. I have a small one I use for outdoor events and I am thinking of buying a larger one for our pool area. I am sensitive to the sun because of lupus.

There are also bathing suits and clothes with UV blocker. I wear a swim shirt and shorts with these qualities. I find it especially helpful for my shoulders. And a hat!

We used this on our last beach vacation. DS2 was just 9 months old at the time. He and I napped in it while DH played with ODS in the water. It was great.

We have something like this. It comes in a nice carry bag with strap and easy to set up. You open it up and push down in the center of the tent until it clicks. There are stakes that go in the sand and also attached sand bags. it doesn't go anywhere in the wind. sun tent

WE had one similar to that at Pensacola Beach a couple of years ago ... and it was freaking HOT inside! Lord - I needed to be outside to get any of the blessed air!

We go to the beach a lot and always set up a popup canopy. It's easy to set up and allows the wind to move through.

Easy to put up and break down, and it kept my toddler protected while he slept on the beach.

This is what we use too - easy set up and nothing to block the breeze. We just have a cheap one from Wal-Mart and it has held up well - I know they make sturdier ones, but they are heavier. I can carry ours by myself if I need to.

In my opinion the best shelter at the beach is a hotel room or condo to go back to when it gets too hot. I used to love the beach between 10 am and 2pm so I could work on my tan. I still like to have some color, but my favorite time of day at the beach is between 5 pm and sundown. Until then I'm in the condo.

I like my Sunbrella. We have a pop up shelter like linked above, and we found that it was too big for a populated beach.
