I just learned the term “bitch eating crackers “ today LOL. As it was explained in the other thread, a BEC is someone you dislike so intensely that even the most simple behaviors annoy the heck out of you—something as simple as eating crackers. I believe the example given was “Look at that bitch eating crackers over there like she owns the place!” LOL!
So I realized that I am a coworker’s BEC. I’m not sure when or how I peed in her Cheerios, but she.hates.me! It is blatantly obvious that my mere act of breathing in her immediate vicinity is a major crime in her eyes.
I know it doesn’t do anything to solve the issues with her, but I am amused to have a name for this phenomenon.
So who else serves this noble purpose for someone else? 😂

I tend to be extremely blunt, so that makes everybody’s Bec.
To be honest I grew up in family that kept tons of secrets and a father who told lies constantly. I now tell it like it is,go ahead hate me, I am never going back to keeping secrets and telling lies just to make someone feel better.

I’m sure I am. For a long time I was for a SIL, but it feels like that isn’t an issue anymore.

I now tell it like it is,go ahead hate me, I am never going back to keeping secrets and telling lies just to make someone feel better. Yeah but you (general) don’t have to be mean to tell the truth, my BFF is so amazing at this. I am working hard at being better. When I ask a question I want the truth/unfiltered opinion. So I have a hard time with people that don’t. It’s not natural to me so my automatic response (in my head) “no, those shoes are hideous” and out loud “I don’t care for them but I think they fit your style and you could rock them” when what they really want to hear is “I love them!” A nice version of the truth is what I aim for. But those unfiltered thoughts still pop out sometimes, especially with those I’m closest too. Eta: It’s sort of become a joke with mom/BFF where I will say something about them I like in response to their question of do you like them. So they know that means no, but that there is a part of them I don’t find completely 100% hideous.

Yep. My youngest brother’s wife just barely tolerates my existence. I don’t take it personally. She doesn’t seem to like my other SIL or her own mother, either. Her distaste almost humors me at this point. It makes me very thankful that my other brother married a wonderful woman who has become a good friend over the years.

I find the humor in my co-workers dislike of me as well. I admit to being a bit passive-aggressive and encouraging her hate at times. Since everyone else in my office knows the deal, I no longer worry about her impact on my life. I just make sure I document the stuff I’m responsible for. Then when she attempts to throw me under the bus, I call her out on it. Which of course, makes her hate me more.

I think I'm almost everyone's BEC. I never had many girlfriends growing up... I think this is probably why.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely the BEC to a handful of people. I don't have BECs, if someone annoys me that bad, I cut them out.

I'm sure I am, but they haven't made me aware of it so I go on oblivious. It doesn't have to be someone you know, Beyonce is my BEC.

Her BEC Coworker knocked on her (my neighbor) forehead today. 😱 I don’t know how neighbor managed to walk away from that one.

Was the BEC doing it to say "Knock knock is anyone in there" (ie. implying that she thinks your neighbour is brainless) or what? I just can't imagine! I don't know what I would do or say. I would most likely tell her to get her f&%$#ing hands off me.

I apparently am to a former co-worker. I think she is embarrassed because I had to retrain her every time we got workload in. She called me a know-it-all to the person that took her place. I think it is hilarious because she won't even look at my dh when she passes him in the hallways. LOL. There is one on my team right now that is my BEC. It's a man, so the B works either way.

I don’t know that I could have kept from retaliating in kind. Did your neighbor file anything with HR?

BEC came up and started spouting nonsense at the coworker, who then yelled at BEC. Boss got wind of the ruckus and sounds like something is going to go down today in the office. Everyone is in conflict with BEC.

I don't care about anyone's opinion enough to know if I'm someone's BEC (which probably makes me someone's BEC all on its own).

I don't think I am. However I used to have a coworker years ago and I think I was hers. No idea why, we didn't work directly together and there were never any issues. But she always seemed to be rather cool with me etc compared to others. Oh well.
I have two coworkers now who are my BEC. One is everyone's BEC I think. The other some people love and others of us, not so much. He's not a bad guy, just rubs me the wrong way personally and makes stupid mistakes. He loves to make things harder than they are to make himself feel important but then ends up messing things up. And he's a bit pretentious.

One of the original owners of the company I work for hated my guts and to this day I have no idea why. When his assistant was out I had to work directly with him and it was HORRIBLE.
The day he announced his retirement and that our current owners were buying him out ranks among the best days of my life. I've been here 30 years and sometimes I just can't believe I've made it this long because of those early days.
FTR, the new owners are amazing bosses. The absolute polar opposite of the original asshole.

Oh, I KNOW I was my MIL's! To be fair, any woman my dh brought home would have automatically been her BEC. Nothing personal -- although it took me a long time to realize that. (Hard to realize that when the attacks ARE personal.)
I can also remember a job when I was someone's BEC. I have no idea what I did to her -- and I actually asked! She just sniffed and turned her head. And then I saw this little smile. So sometimes, I think you are not really their BEC, they are just a grown up mean girl who screams "Booger Eater!" on the bus and sees who makes the mistake of looking. In other words, just trying to get a rise out of someone.
