Shout out for lock laces. I bought them on amazon. My 10 year old dd is good at doing her laces but she takes forever and always double knots, which means taking off is slower too. She asked for Velcro runners but they don’t seem to last so we tried the lock laces. She loves them. I love how they look - thinking about getting them for my shoes . www.amazon.ca/LACES-Elastic-Shoelaces-Black-48-Inch/dp/B007DLVLDY?th=1&psc=1ETA - my link is amazon.ca but they’re on .com too.

Our dgrandson has autism and can't / won't tie his laces - these would certainly be a game changer for him. Thanks for the link .

DH actually uses these: Amazon Link He hates having to untie laces and prefers to slip his on and off. I imagine they're more sanitary too, besides speed.

A lot of triathletes use those Lock Laces because they are so quick to get in and out of shoes. I'm 47, and I hate tying shoes LOL!

Oh I just bought some of those for me at Target (thinking they wouldn't really work). I love them. I do need to get some for DD. She is horrible in tying her shoes.. She is 11 and it's like a slow death waiting for her to tie. Kill me now.. LOL.. I think I will get her a set when school starts, since she is basically in flip flops now.

YDS who is 10 is Autistic and can't tie laces. It's the only dexterity issue he seems to have. We've been buying him laces like this for the past few years. Some years he finds sneakers he likes that have velcro closures and some times he likes the tie shoes better...so we buy him these laces. They are a life saver for him.

We did the spring laces too, but we can't seem to find them long enough for him now and he says they pull the shoes too tight for him now.

Oh, excellent idea. I told ds (almost 9) that he needs to learn how to tie shoes this summer...what is it with kids not being able to learn this, I had to know going into kindergarten? But I think I'll get him these anyhow to save my sanity on those rushed mornings (but not till he at least learns how to do it first )

I am so glad I'm not the only one with a 9yo who can't tie shoes. I did teach him a new way last night but the shoes were so loose that they looked like they were going to fall off. I may or may not have promised him $20 if he can tie them by the end of the week without help. It worked with riding his bike and it's a small price to pay for my sanity.

Oh we love lock laces! They are a godsend to us.
My DD can't tie her shoes due to visual perceptual and fine motor issues. Not a big deal. However, in 4th grade it became a big deal and she has this now huge mental block because of it. When she first got to school at Riverview Summer Camp, her residential supervisor decided that, in spite of years of OT and shoe tying programs, she could teach my DD to tie her shoes. So she taught her the "bunny ears" method. My DD couldn't do it tight enough and they always came untied and/or slipped. She had to wear her shoes on a hike which resulted in bleeding blisters on both heals. She didn't wear those shoes again. She walked over 100 miles in 4 weeks to earn a certificate in flip flops. I picked her up from summer camp and she kept complaining that her leg hurt and was sometimes limping. Finally after a week of this I took her to the ortho guy. She had stress fractures in her leg! He was the one who told us about lock laces. Back 12 years ago, we had to order them directly from Lock Laces. They have been wonderful. My DD doesn't have to beg for anyone to help her and be refused.

There doesn't seem to be the same amount of free time to just sit and practice over and over. Everyone has places they need to be and schedules to keep. My eight year old finally mastered shoe thing this year. My rising first grader is still working on it. It's good to know we have the open of lock laces and springy laces, though.

But I think I'll get him these anyhow to save my sanity on those rushed mornings (but not till he at least learns how to do it first ) It is because Velcro is easier so kids never even get to watch their parents tie shoes. Also the old dolls like Dapper Dan aren’t around anymore. I hate Velcro shoes. Hate them. My kids never had them as their sneakers-I always got tie ones. And both of my kids learned to tie their shoes before Kindergarten because we practiced regularly. I would talk through what I was doing as I tied their shoes. I teach Kindergarten and HATE Velcro shoes. The kids that came in the school year in tie shoes regularly knew how to tie their own shoes by the end of the year. Plus I hate the sound of Velcro opening/closing repeatedly when I am reading a story, lol. Unless there is a developmental or physical limitation, kids should be in tie shoes IMO. But I also know my opinion doesn’t count for much lol 😝

We got a puppy who loved to attack his untied laces. That did the trick. These would be a much cheaper option.
