Guess I'm in the mood for fluffy this week.
I just came across two very strange Facebook connections.
One a gal, that I recognize her name because she lives in the same town(suburb) I do, kids go to same school and lots of mutual friends. But I don't think I have ever met her but I do see her name a lot. I recently friended a gal at work (she lives far from me) and they were also friends. So this morning I asked her how she knew this gal and she told me that this gal had the SAME job I am currently in.. EXACT same job. So weird. I think you all know kinda where I work and this position I am in is pretty specific related.. so funny.
And then just a couple of weeks ago, there was a gal who I saw had a lot of mutual friends.. probably more than 15 so I was curious who the friends were. Come to find out, she was friends with two different sets of friends from different parts of my life. She was friends with a bunch of people that I went to elementary school in another city (small Catholic school in St. Louis, less than 300 at the time, in the late 1970s/early 80s and I only went to that school from 5th to 8th grade and moved to another state).. and then with a bunch of friends from my (2nd) high school in Kansas City (your average/big public high school, 4,000 kids I think).. none of these people are mutual friends at all. The St. Louis friends are all mostly in St. Louis and the KC friends are in KC (for the most part).. So between these two cities I lived in, I probably moved at least six times before I landed in KC.
Just found that very strange!! LOL

A woman I'm friendly with in my town (our daughters were in the same Girl Scout troop) was best friends at a sleepaway summer camp in the 70s with a former neighbor of mine in the town we used to live in. They reconnected via my FB page. It was cool.

My sons closest friend and roommate for 5 years was voice coach to another pea’s teen during her child’s college audition process. The pea asked me on FB how I know the coach. We live in opposite coasts. Cue “it’s a small world.”

I was Facebook friends with a guy I had dated a few times and we had a mutual friend who was a Pea. He lived about an hour away from me and she lived in another state. I asked her how she knew him and she was a bit vague in her answer. I was just curious. I culled my friends several years ago and neither stayed my friends.

My Boyfriends cousin who is a Pharmacist in Houston. ( we live in Austin TX) is also FB friends with my high school government teacher from Indiana. I asked him about it and they met on a European tour a few years earlier.

You know how it always pulls up two people in the people you may know? Yesterday, it simultaneously suggested that my husband's ex-wife and my ex-husband are people that I may know. They should have called that "people you unfortunately know."

I've had this happen many times over the years. The most recent was in April when I met someone in a workout class and I discovered she was an expat here with a company DH retired from. We had coffee after the class and in talking to her I discovered that her old boss in Scotland was a friend and former colleague of DH's from a totally different company! The very next day I decided to attend a new needlepoint group that formed on Instagram. As soon as I walked up I knew I recognized the person who was the organizer but couldn't place her. After a few minutes I realized that she and DD had gone to summer camp together for 8 summers and had even been cabin mates. Even odder, one of the young women who came later turned out to be the new GP I had switched to just a few months before. I came home swearing to never leave the house again! It was really odd to have all those coincidences in just 24 hours. I've always said Houston is the biggest small town I've ever lived in.

I love it when FB gives a list of people I might know, or I might like to know, and I see "12 mutual friends" or whatever... Just by hovering over the friends link I can tell what the connection is... it's usually neighborhood, the clergy network, or a couple of groups I belong to. I do remember once years ago one came up that said we had two mutual friends. I looked and one was my daughter. And the second was the president of my seminary! lol. I thought "how does this young lady down in Farmville Virginia (she and my dd were sorority sisters) know the president of my seminary in DC?" (and I could see by her profile that she did not live in DC and had not gone to school in DC). Turns out she and the seminary president's daughter became good real-life friends from when they met at a denominational event. lol

i was on FB a couple of years ago and a saw a photo of my best high school guy friend (Dave) on a bus in aruba with his wife and kids (rental bus, not public bus).
he had mentioned his wife's sister was getting married and they were going down south for the wedding. he and i are from a town about an hour west of toronto, he has moved to his wife's hometown, about an hour east of toronto.
as i am looking at the picture i said "what is ronan from the playgroup doing on the bus in aruba??". turns out my friend's Dave's wife's sister was marrying ronan's mom's brother.
so no friend suggestion weirdness or how does my friend in cayman islands know my other friend in dubai... but still kinda highlights how many connections exist around us all the time that we just aren't aware of at all.

I was at a training with my boss and the boss's sister. My boss was doing the training with several of us. While in the bathroom stall, I heard my boss tell her sister that I moved to the Austin area. The sister says, "Oh my son and dil live just outside Austin". She says her name. I came out of my stall and showed her on my FB friend's list and ask, "Is this her?". It was. We live in the same neighborhood.
Oh and this entire conversation took place in Washington, DC!

I've had a few
1) A friend of mine from work (in GA) posted on another friend of mine (in NC). They were FB friends. I thought how in the world can these 2 guys know each other. Turns house they met at a conference. They both work in the housing industry.
2) My sister-in-law's brother (my friend) is a FB friend of a guy I have known for years (John). I met him back during my club days. These guys have nothing in common but it turns out they went to the same high school and played basketball together.
3) A current co-worker posted posted a birthday message to John (see #2 above) and I thought how does she know him? She said they went to elementary school together.
It just makes me think of the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon thing..we are more connected to each other than we even know.

I went to an open house recently. I knew the graduate and her mom. She asked me how did I know certain people. Turns out a sibling group I grew up with were her daughter's cousins on her dad's side and she used to babysit my SIL's kids.
My cousin kept commenting on an old classmate's posts. She did not go to school with us. Turns out they work together now. The classmate did not make the connection because cousin's name and mine (maiden and married) are not the same.

Yes, I recently noticed that a cousin is FB friends with one of my husband's high school classmates. They aren't even in the same state as each other or us. Neither are FB friends with me or DH. I have not got a clue how they know each other.

I friended a woman who lives in California, from a heart Facebook group because we share a rare heart condition, she had a comment on one of her posts from my daughters girl guide leader. Only Mutual friend was my daughter. Totally confusing. I had to actually ask to find the connection. This woman cross stitches and so does my daughters girl guide leader and the two of them are friends from a FB cross stitch group where they exchange cross stitch items like circle journals. We are in Alberta Canada. Seeing my teen daughter as the mutual friend was weird.
