All the years I worked, going out for lunch was not an option. It never enters my mind to ask someone to lunch. However, some of my friends go out for lunch all the time. We are all retired now. I belong to a couple of groups who meet once per month for lunch.

This is a new phase of life for me - the retired and empty nest thing and I was thinking a bit more about the lunch thing last night.
We still do dinner parties and the like but that always includes our spouses and as much as I love my husband and enjoy spending time with him, the conversations are different when the guys are around - not better or worse, just different.
I think what I like best about doing lunch is that it seems much more informal than dinner or a full out party evening. Sometimes we talk about things that seem too serious for other occasions for some weird reason and as we are all empty nesters and retired, there is no timeline, other than getting home to make dinner.
