I’m at my usual place getting a pedi and a fill. There is a woman around my age getting the same. She’s here with her 20-something DD. After mom chose her polish colour she loudly proclaimed “Once you go black you never go back!” 😳😳

I’ve heard it before. Just seems like something that shouldn’t be said. ETA: Could this be considered a slur? Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about. 🤷♀️

I'd give a good go I have a friend who has 2 biracial children. Years later she married a white guy, and said "well I guess you CAN go back" lol.

Is it possible she was talking about nail polish color? I do like black on my toes.

It’s a not all that funny when you consider how being over sexualized has cost many black men their lives. Imagine a black body in a tree whenever you hear the once you go black reference. Also remember that Olan would like to go on record with a vote for thickness over length.

I'm pretty sure she meant it as a double-entendre. You weren’t at the nail salon, don’t know the woman, yet you know what she meant. Mainly because NOONE ever says once you go black you never go back.. unless they are meaning the color of polish paint or whatever BUT also the double entrende of penis size... Other wise most all people wouldn't say that particular phrase... that's just what it means... And I would bet money that mom knew what she was saying and daughter probably just rolled her eyes at mom trying to be sassy...

It’s a long-established racial/sexual reference. You may never have heard it, but probably most of the rest of us have. I imagine she was using it as a double-entendre in reference to her nail polish color. A tasteless remark to make in any case, but especially in public, among strangers.

If you have heard a phrase and don’t know what it means, for the love of god, don’t use it until you know what it means.

I didn’t know this saying was in reference to an African American man’s penis size. I’ve learned something new today, which is why I love being a pea.

It’s a common saying about black men’s penis size. There is no way anyone could say that and not mean it as a double entendre.

It took me a while to put black polish on my nails. I thought it would look too young or punk. But once I tried it I fell in love. Now its a fight not to use black every time.

Ooohhh ladies the stories I could tell after my years of working in a funeral home doing autopsies & embalming so many men.
I’ve seen more penis’ than should bc allowed to be seen!
Yes, some are much bigger than others but as someone else so elegantly said it’s not the size of the tool it’s the mechanic behind the tool that matters!!! It can be a Sears & Roebuck tool or a Snap on tool....do they know how to use the damn thing to my satisfaction??!!!

I'm pretty sure she meant it as a double-entendre. You weren’t at the nail salon, don’t know the woman, yet you know what she meant. EVERYONE knows what she meant, except you. You've never ever heard anyone say that? It's been around a long time. She thought she was making a funny. It's not something I would ever say. It's also like that saying old white men like to give me when I get them coffee: "I like my coffee like I like my women. Hot and black."

Even the world's most skilled mechanic wouldn't be able to do much with a tiny tiddler.

Personally I’m a believer in it’s not the size of the tool, it’s the skill of the mechanic. Even the world's most skilled mechanic wouldn't be able to do much with a tiny tiddler. size isn't everything but it is *something*. there has to be something there to work with. i dated a guy in high school and it was the length of my ring finger, maybe twice the width of my thumb (i have longish fingers, just to be fair). i thought i wasn't doing it for him or he was too drunk. nope, he was erect. that is just all she wrote. most mediocre sex i have probably ever had. and that is not why we broke up, he was sleeping with his ex. so apparently it was no impediment as he seemed to be getting a fair amount of sex!! as for OP, i am pretty sure most people know that saying, and i took it as a double entendre about the nail polish colour. but my mom is 74 and i am going to check with her if she is familiar with it.... cuz now i am curious...

I knew exactly what it meant. I've never used black nail polish ummmm..... and I agree there has to be something there to work with. And there's also a thing as too much... Finding the perfect lenghth and width is a struggle sometimes as I'm finding out in the last 4 years in my old age. And I'll just stop now... I couldn't help but laugh. I know what you meant, but still...
