Hello! We are hoping to go to Africa next year for our 25th wedding anniversary. Has anyone been? Looking for any/all recommendations.
Thanks in advance! Dawn

It's a big continent! Do you have any particular country in mind? What activities are you wanting to do? Are you planning to go with a tour group, or will you be making all your own arrangements?
I have lived in two countries and had the opportunity to visit more. For a first time visit, you might want to consider a tour that includes S. Africa/Namibia/Botswana/Zimbabwe. Kenya/Tanzania would be another option. It's a little hard to make more specific recommendations without knowing more of what you want from this trip.

We went to Tanzania last summer. Which country or countries are you thinking about?

Watching with interest Planning to do a big holiday next year too, possibly to Kenya, to include some touring/safari time and some beach time so thanks to anyone who shares info.

I've been to Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Namibia (four trips in total). I absolutely fell in love with Namibia. They have everything - Etosha National Park, the Namib desert, the coast at Swakopmund, the Caprivi Strip, and so many wonderful places in between. It's an easy country to navigate and car/camper rentals are quite common there.

You'd have to say which country or regions that you're most interested in before anyone can really answer. Egypt has always been on my bucket list, as well as Morocco. Senegal is a wonderful country. Ghana has the historical slave trade sites. I'd stay away from the central part of west Africa because of terrorism. South Africa...Madagascar... so many interesting places to see!

We've been to Kenya/Tanzania and South Africa/Botswana/Zimbabwe/Namibia. Of all we visited Botswana was my favorite. I agree with previous posters that a bit more info will help give more relevant recommendations.

Thank you for the recommendations. We are open on where to go. We are looking for photo safari’s - both land and water. Best time of year to go? Tour/guide companies Again - thank you!! Not sure what you mean by a water photo safari. If you meant whales/penguins, then S. Africa would be the place to combine that with a traditional photo safari. If you want water and elephants, then Botswana and the Okavango Delta is the spot for that. I have never done a tour so cannot recommend one, though I have friends who have used Tauck Tours and Abercrombie & Kent with good results. You just need to read the reviews of the individual companies, as well as their itineraries to see what will match your expectations and budget. As for time of year, remember that their seasons are reversed from ours (assuming you are in N. America). There will be some differences between a Kenyan safari vs a S. African safari. The best thing to do would be google "best time for safari in (country)" and read the detailed explanations. I've done April in S. Africa and October in Kenya, both with success. Good luck with your planning and research. That can be half the fun in a trip like this. Once you start to formulate a plan, then pop back in and let us know if you have more specific questions.
