I've seen this comment here and on other social media sites. I think it originated from Rush Limbaugh and conservative blogs.
Anyone who repeats it is fucking ignorant.

I can't link from my phone but it's on pg. 4 of the "Mailonline reporting Duncan contact has Ebola symptoms" thread, and I saw it on another thread a few days ago too ( can't remember which one).

I have seen it on multiple threads but the most recent example is page 4 of the Mailonline reporting Duncan Contact...... thread.
ETA: must have been posting at the same time as Yubon.

I'm shocked (although why, I don't know) that someone here would make that statement.

perhaps yes, oldcrow, and in theory it's nice to be able to scroll on by. But dang! That crap gets repeated and those ignorant statements get passed on from generation to generation and it never ends.

That crap gets repeated and those ignorant statements get passed on from generation to generation and it never ends. True but laughing at them must be visible. So tag them, quote them then lol them. Then scroll on by. I often just scroll on by because I'm never sure if they are serious or it's their idea of a funny. I don't really have to deal with people who make such comments. It's pretty rare to hear something like that where I am although not unheard of. And here if I were to call someone on a comment like that they would immediately claim it to be a joke. And they would never say it to me again.

Considering it was found in California originally in the 1960s and we have had cases of it every year since they don't have a leg to stand on.

It doesn't help that there are "news" sources on Yahoo claiming that CDC has proof that the current outbreak was from South America. I read the article. There's no proof. A study was done that found that something like 3,500 kids in S. America had the virus. That isn't proof. Crap media outlets realize that most are too lazy to read the actual article and will go off spouting their mouths about some proof that doesn't exist. If I can find the article I'll link it. The study I read said they studied 3500 kids and only 3% had it. Oh the horror!

A 2013 Defense Department study conducted in Central and South America on patients with flu-like illness, did identify EV-D68 in some of the test subjects. All 3,375 test subjects were age 25 or under.
-------------------------------------------
"Some of the test subjects".
They forgot to say that it was only 3% of them.
And I'm sure we had the same rate or higher here in the US.
Maybe these sources have it ass backwards. Maybe us Americans gave those kids diseases because of our extensive travels over the years. Or they caught it after they crossed the border. Poor kids.

Funny, I just read page 4 of the thread Yubon referenced and I didn't see this comment anywhere on it. Someone said they were more worried about ED68 than Ebola and someone else linked an article but no comments from any peas blaming immigrant kids.

It was there half an hour ago - without the 'darn' and more pondering the possibility than accusing.

Someone said they were more worried about ED68 than Ebola and someone else linked an article but no comments from any peas blaming immigrant kids. I had to infer it from a quote. It wasn't stated exactly like this, but along the lines of 'I was afraid this would happen when all the refugees started coming.' It's not the exact quote but that was the gist.

I've seen DH's uncle say something similar. Him and his kids are BIG Limbaugh fans. We pretty much only see them for family gatherings.

Haters are going to hate, that's their way. And nothing you say or do will change their outlook. So just laugh at them and scroll on by. With all the news stories from valid news agencies earlier this year about lack of health screenings before the children were dispersed throughout the country, I don't see how the statement "When the refugee children from South America came to the U.S. via Mexico and were disbursed throughout the country I wondered if something like this would happen." is about hate. Can you explain what I seem to be missing?

I DID NOT say what came after even though this makes it look as though I did. I replied to those comments with another post talking about the existence of Entero D68 in our country for 50 years and that we've had cases reported every year since the late 80s. I would really prefer it if there was someway in your cut and paste to make it clear that I was not the person blaming it on the refugees.

Can you explain what I seem to be missing? "haters are going to hate" is just an expression. Don't take everything so literally. And by the way - all of those children were given clean bills of health and were fully vaccinated before being "dispersed throughout the country", which is a hell of a lot more than can be said about non-vaccinated US kids.

I've seen this comment here and on other social media sites. I think it originated from Rush Limbaugh and conservative blogs. Anyone who repeats it is fucking ignorant. This is what I was referring to. Sorry if you feel like I pissed in your corn flakes but you did not come to my mind. My statement was that if people do not like something it is not likely you can change said mind. The hater reference is also a saying I run across quite often.

It seems to be the underlying message in most of the posts here - ignorance and hate for wondering about why suddenly this has become so prevalent. Given the news we've seen since the children started showing up I don't understand why it's hateful or even ignorant to wonder about it. Curi Kim the HHS Director of Refuge Health has pointed out a breakdown in the screening process. The kids were screened upon entering the facilities but not when being moved to other areas. Before being dispersed throughout the country they were only separated from sick kids by yellow caution tape. Some of them were moved to other areas of the country despite having fever and flu like symptoms.
