I have a message on my work cell phone that is really bugging me. The first part is cut off, but it is a man with a foreign accent stating that there is a warrant for my arrest and my physical address is under investigation. He says to call him the second I get the message before they start the investigation. The phone number says it is a New York number. Would you respond to this?

I should add that the phone this message was on is registered to my employer and I doubt my name is linked to it at all.

I have gotten to where I google the phone numbers that I don't recognize. There are so many scams...and this is one of them. They threaten you with arrest, then tell you that they will settle whatever fee it is with a payment by phone.
Most of the time they are saying that you the IRS money. The IRS will not arrest you, they will send you all kinds of mail first, give you an opportunity to fix the problems...but they will not send someone to arrest you.

Ignore it.
Much more interesting than the 'wrong number' call I got on my work phone a couple of weeks ago. After telling the (foreign man) that he had the wrong number, he asked me if I'd ever had surgery on my vagina. I said "umm, excuse me?" and he asked again. I asked him why on earth he was asking me that. He said he was with a health compensation board or something. I've seen some commercials about some 'vaginal mesh' lawsuit so maybe it was about that? No clue what that even is. I just hung up on him. Arrest threats are scarier.

Absolutely not. If they want you, they'll find you. That's for sure.

Scam. If you are unsure you can always Google the phone number. I received a couple of 800 calls on my iPhone and the person hung up before I could answer. I Googled the number, saw many complaints about it being a scam and promptly blocked the number. Easy Peasy.

That call goes in the scam file right along with the supposed law firm that left a voice stating that it was urgent that I call because they needed me to give them power of attorney because it was in my best interest. Ummm, no.

I'm glad you asked this, because after thinking about it for a bit, I've decided that if I ever receive a phone call like the one you did, I'm totally going to yell, "they'll never find me!" and then hang up. And then I'll probably laugh about it for the rest of the day.

Scam. If somebody's holding a warrant for your arrest, they are unlikely to call you up and tell you about it....they'll just come and get you. Same for your property being "under investigation"

Don't call back. It might be one of those ridiculously high charging phone lines.

When I get these kinds of calls on my cell phone I usually ask them to call me back on my home phone, then give them the phone number.... depending on my mood I give them the police department or the FBI.
