I knew I could count on the creative Peas to assist me with a special baby shower gift for my niece. She is also my Goddaughter and this is her and her wonderful husband's first baby!!! The shower is going to be at my home and they live out of state. I would like to have the gift shipped to them prior to the shower as they will be flying in for the shower. Or if it is something on the small side, they could put it in their checked bag.
I really would like to hear from all of you wonderful mothers what gifts truly meant the most to you and what you loved having or wish you had.
Thank you so VERY much!!!!

Honestly, the gift I most appreciated for all 4 of my kids was our baby swing. My babies all adored that swing, and it was a sanity saver.
It’s not a sentimental gift, but I really did adore it. It was the most used thing besides the crib and the car seat. And my Godmother was the one who sent it to us. 😂

I usually give a handmade quilt for special baby shower gifts. I make cute eye-spy quilts using the "apple-core" die-cut (accuquilt), sew the pieces together and then have the quilt machine quilted by my friend who has a long-arm quilting machine.
A book that your god-daughter loved as a child so that this new baby has their own copy?

Hosting the shower is already very wonderful and generous. I would choose something from their registry.

Believe it or not, they do not have a swing on their registry!

My sister crochets and is making them a blanket using the nursery color. It is beautiful!!!! I love the book idea! However, the baby shower is a story book themed shower and her mom is already doing that. GREAT idea!!!! Thank you!

I'm not a sentimental person; I preferred useful gifts.... baby swing, bouncy seat, exersaucer, boppy pillow....apparently I liked to put my kids down a lot If you want sentimental I'd lean towards a book; useful and easy to store (and packs well in a suitcase).

Or are you doing a group gift from all three of you? It won't affect them. I was explaining that I wasn't the only one hosting the shower. To me it doesn't matter. I don't feel hosting the shower covers the gift, but that is me.

I got handmade quilts from my different Aunts for both of my kids and they were very appreciated. I have kept them so they could be passed down to their kids.
I have made quilts for all of my great neices and nephews, but I made them larger (45x45 or so) and used fabrics that were not babyish so they could use them as toddlers and beyond. Even the ones in elementary school will still use them to snuggle on the couch.

When I was a child, my father would measure our height on a door frame. It was a special occasion once a year when he'd measure us and he'd fuss over how much we grew. So when my sister had her baby, I handmade her a growth chart (out of fabric in case she moves)
But yeah, I would have pulled my hair out if I hadn't had a swing for dd.

How funny. I'm traveling home to Canada in a couple of weeks and will be co-hosting the baby shower for our niece/god-daughter who is also having her first baby. She's our chosen niece, not blood related, but her parents are her best friends and we've grown up very close to all three of their girls, despite living on opposite sides of the continent. I have purchased a 20" cuddle+kind doll for them. Check out the website - the dolls are expensive but high quality, the options are adorable, the company apparently pays fair wages to the women in Peru making them and each doll sold translates to 10 meals provided to school children in the U.S. and around the world. I can tell you after receiving two of them (I have a 13" doll as a baby gift for a babe coming next week too), the quality is indeed very high. I also bought a stack of board books that I / our kids love(d) and am making a quilt. The mom-to-be is a sentimental woman, she still has the pastel pink, green, blue, white, yellow baby blanket I knit for her 32 years ago! Good luck finding something that feels just right! And have fun at the shower! It IS a lovely gift you are giving your god-daughter.

The best gift?
A 4x4 floor quilt. 2 layers of batting so it is nice and soft. Mind you this is only good until baby starts rolling.
