I think busy people need to plan, and lots of people prefer to do that on paper rather than electronically. Add in a love for all things cute, paper-y, or office-y and it's one addictive combination!

I get people having a planner. What I don't get is when they have 15 different ones for different things and they are used all at the same time. I would be so overwhelmed...but more power to them they are probably much more organized in life than myself!

i'm talking about how cocoa daisy has a planner sub? i think elsewhere too.. i just can't fathom why people would want to pay $25 plus shipping every month for a planner...

I'm sure non-scrapbookers say the same thing about buying scrapbook supplies or subscribing to kit clubs.

Not sure. I used a planner for years and gave it up about 3-4 years ago. Everything I need is on my phone now.

I'm one of those people who has always loved office supplies. I LOVE PENS. The stationary store was one of my favorite places when I was a kid. Combine that with a need to keep my plans, ideas, appointments, and lists in order and you have a person who loves a crafty planner. I'm cheap so I don't subscribe to any of the kit clubs but I have made myself an awesome planner using a Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic paper pad. I use fun pens, post it notes, and clips and have fun with it. I never could get used to using my fone as a calendar/planner.

I have kept a planner for years - I used to carry it back and forth to work, but found that I don't open it at home any more so I just keep it at work. Helps me keep track of work projects along with other appointments. A lot of my personal appointments I have both in my phone and in the planner.
and mine has to be a pretty one - been using the FranklinCovey planners for years.

I have a lot going on in my life. Work, grad school, husbands activities and work, plus my daughters activities and I just cannot keep everything straight. In addition to the crazy schedules, I am very much a list person. I make short term and long term to do lists. Having a planner that I can flip open and see everything that I have to do in a week is my saving grace. I'd lose my mind if I didn't have my planner.
Now I don't really understand the concept of decorating them. I pretty much throw mine out at the end of the year.

My niece has a Kate Spade Planner. She is addicted to the process and the supplies. To me, it seems like Project Life without pictures. It's like a mini journal/scrapbook.

I have one for yearly, monthly and weekly inserts. I love the feel of paper, so I just don't use my phone for this purpose. I color-code (using pens, stickers and washi), and post-it notes to help keep me organized. I also use this one for planning our vacations. My second one is for mealplanning. Weekly menus with shopping lists, and I keep receipes in there too. This way, I ensure we don't eat the same meals over and over, and if we don't like a receipe I just throw it away. My third is for everything craft related, ongoing projects, planned projects, expenses, sketches.... My fourth planner is for everything related to jul (christmas to you), including addresses for everyone on my card list, what cookies to bake and meals to plan, gift lists...... My last one is for books I'm going to read (a page per book). And I'm thinking about getting one to use as a diary, mainly because I find writing a few lines a day and maybe doing a quick sketch, is helping me unwind. I will get one as soon as I can make up my mind which one will best suit my needs.
i'm not decorating anything other than the dividers and tabs, but I use stickers and washi because they're making it easier for me to organize our everyday life.

I think all the planner stamps and books are beautiful, but they are just way too inefficient for me. I could never go back to that. I need calendars/lists/evernote-type-things that sync across all my family's devices; paper just doesn't cut it. And the time I don't spend tinkering with a paper planner is time I can spend tinkering on scrapping and cards and art. I suppose that is weird, but outside of my scrapping stuff, I am almost completely paperless.

I don't think it needs to be explained any more than scrapbooking or model railroading. LOL It is what it is and it's okay if it isn't your thing. With that said, Websters Pages is coming out with their own planners and planner kits, and they have some gorgeous colors. Webster's Pages planners

I get planners, as they are handy and keep you organized, but I don't get all the time and effort into making them cute. For me that is time and money I would rather spend on scrapbooking. To each their own though, but I do think it is just another fad like the Rolodexes and ATC things that will go away when something else comes along,

I have an Erin Condren Life Planner because I just do so much better when I write it down. And yes, I decorate it with fun stickers, stamps and my endless supply of washi. It's so fun!

To each their own though, but I do think it is just another fad like the Rolodexes and ATC things that will go away when something else comes along, I can understand why people want to make their planners cute. Organizing can be an unpleasant chore to some. If you can make it fun, why not? You can involve a craft you already love with scheduling, organizing, planning, etc. Making it cute makes it more likely that the person will continue to use it. I'll ditch a boring, plain planner by mid-February, but I'm still using mine in October. Although, mine doesn't have the bells and whistles that the new super crafty ones have. I love the supplies that Prenticekid linked, but besides a new pen and pack of post-it notes here and there I don't need anything new for it. On that note, I can also see why some would feel like it can become very involved and time consuming with all the new options. I say if you have the time, money, and interest, go for it and make organizing your life fun.

THAT I totally get it! I just discovered those as well and hope to get one as soon as finances allow. But it's different because that is more practical than decorative, even though you can decorate it.

I have used a planner for the last several years to actually journal in--I write down during the date what I did, appointments I had, people I met with, the book I just finished reading, etc in my monthly spot, and I'd actually write a few sentences in the weekly spreads. I just started getting into planners to actually plan, but I have a few things that I desperately need to be organized (scheduled blog posts, book club pages, etc) that I have to be able to see at a glance. I enjoy decorating them (though not as extensively as other people) because not only have I loved office supplies for years, this is just another way for me to craft, even if it's just a few strips of washi and a couple stickers. At the end of the day, I'm keeping my old planner pages just like I keep my old journals.

I've used a paper agenda for over a decade... A small one that fits in my purse, I keep track of shifts, appts, to-do lists, etc... We're not allowed to use electronic devices at work so even though I have an iPhone, I haven't bothered setting up anything in there...
I did buy a Kate Spade planner a couple of months ago... I haven't exactly figured out how I'm going to use it, but I want to start tracking certain things that either won't fit or are more personal than I want to keep in my purse agenda... Things like personal health goals, holiday/birthday lists/plans, meal/grocery lists, blog planning and ideas, books/movies/music I want to check out... More of a journal/notebook type of thing...
I'm someone who's always loved office and stationary supplies... I highlight and colour code things in my purse planner (work is green, appts are yellow, social events are pink, errands are orange)... I'll definitely be using colour in my KS planner, and since it's bigger and I have washi tape, I'll be using it too... And because this journal will be more personal, if I feel like adding in a cute sticker or doodle, I will...lol

When I was in high school, our school gave us spiral-found agendas for organizing. I had one each year I was in high school. As the year progressed, I made notes about exams, funny things that happened with my friends, tucked in notes we passed in class, saved funny newspaper clippings. Added stickers, school programmes, etc. I wasn't intentionally "decorating" my agenda, but by the end of the year it was full and had to be held closed with an elastic band. I found those agendas a few years ago, and they were absolute treasures. About a year ago I dug them out of my basement and was going to put them in with my scrapbooks and blog about them and shoot a little video about them. Instead, I put them back in the basement. The next week a pipe broke in our basement and I lost all of those agendas, plus all of the cards I've received during high school and all of the letters I'd received from my two best friends for the year they each went to school in Europe. It was heartbreaking. So, for those of you who don't understand making an agenda pretty... it's not any different than a journal, or true scrapbook, or any other way we like to keep memories. Mine were precious, and I wish I still had them.

You evil enablers!! I have always been obsessed with stationary and calendars. I cannot for the life of me use the calendar on my phone. I mainly use a calendar dry erase board in my kitchen to stay organized but I have a paper calendar to jot things down for the months in ahead. I looked at all of the planners mentioned and I really NEED one of those Erin Condren Life Planners. How cute are those!
