I've been forced onto the biofocal train. I went kicking and screaming. I had lasik surgery over 15 years ago and knew I'd need readers at some point. I accepted that. But I hate these bifocals. I can't see crap and I'm struggling to get used to the lenses. I work with a huge computer monitor thats like 2 monitors in one and i can't shift my eyes to read across the screen without constantly moving my head and its making me sick to my stomach. Does it get better? I only have to wear the glasses at work. has anyone ever not gotten used to them or been unable to wear them. Its been a little over a week since I've had them and I had hoped things would get a little easier, but I hate them.

I did. Well, progressives really.
It doesn’t work for me. Most of my ‘reading’ is work related and on a computer screen and not where the reading part of my lenses lands. A computer, my work computer is more in front of me & vertical than bifocals or progressives are made for. I was constantly getting headaches eye strain & neck strain. It just wasn’t working.
I bought ‘computer glasses’ and regular glasses and I just switch them out. If I’m reading something quick like a menu or what have you my regular glasses are fine as long as I let them slide partway down my nose. This works for me much better than Bifocals did.
I actually had computer glasses to wear over my regular distance contacts back when I could still wear contacts for the same reason.

Yup. Hate them. I need mine for distance and now for reading. I got whatever was covered with my Medicare plan, so I got 1 pair with bifocals (and my distance Rx), and one nicer pair with a tint, just for distance + Rx sunglasses. The ones with the bifocals are ONLY worn when I absolutely need them because they make me feel drunk and headachy. I'm monocular on top of that, so it's extremely annoying!!!
Good luck!

The prescription computer glasses were my dr’s suggestion. And to be fair I gave my progressives a whole year but found myself wearing my old glasses more than not to work. I’d wear my progressives on vacation & stuff if they hadn’t broken, but I’m not downing $700 to replace glasses that didn’t work for me

I could not get used to bifocals. I had the same issue with having to move my head to see the entire monitor. Along with that my equilibrium was thrown off - walking up/down stairs was a nightmare, even a curb was hard - I just could not judge distance.. Now I'm wearing mono vision contacts and I love them. All my issues cured in one easy doctor appt.

I hate bifocals. I really hate progressives. I wear reading/computer glasses for work and regular glasses for driving. I do have a pair of bifocals I will wear when crocheting and watching TV or shopping. Monovision contacts are a great thing but my eyes are really dry and I can only wear them for short durations. Zenni Optical is my friend with affording three pair of glasses.

I love my progressives except for computer work. Would be worth investigating getting a pair of glasses just with mid range vision for the computer. What I found was that the mid range portion of the lens was so narrow that I just couldn’t get my head in the right position and ended up with a sore neck.

I hated the progressive lenses but love the bifocals - actually my eye doctor put me in trifocals after I told him my experiences. It what was recommended for people who do a lot of computer work.
The thing about progressives, at least when I tried them, was part of the lenses were just garbage, cause the prescriptive part faded out as in progressed out along the sides. I found them impossible to use as my eyes had to shift right and left along columns of figures. They caused me multiple headaches. BUT true bifocals and trifocals did not.

I have progressives that I wear to drive or when I get tired. I am compliant with the law.

I lasted with my progressives for 4 weeks before I had my lenses changed.

There is a steep learning curve for progressive lens. My DH got them first, he wore them a couple of days and threw them in the drawer. I told his cousin, our optician, said he hears that all the time, wait about a year and he will reach for them and wear them from then on. We just laughed and that is what happened. When I got mine, I was determined to wear them - I held onto stair rails for the first year, what really helped me was changing my sunglasses to progressive so it all stayed the same. I still get some light prisms 20 years later and I cannot lay down and watch TV. I have known of other progressive wearers getting computer glasses or TV glasses, I guess I adjusted.

I move around so much at my desk with the phone, scanner and reaching back to the printer. checking a patient in and on the next screen running ins. getting my head in just the right position to read anything is just not working. I went to lens crafters for my glasses. I brought this up to them and the lady was such a bitch. I have 30 days to change them. I'm going to call my eye dr and go over my options. I'd just prefer a pair of readers because I only need them for computer work.

You might need another pair just for the computer. My eye doctor said lots of people do this.

I was tripping down steps and DH commented that my driving was appalling (more than usual ) and another trip to the optometrist and problem solved. It is sometimes annoying to have to change glasses but I couldn't continue with bifocals.

I’ve worn progressives for years, and really like them. However, they are not adequate for me when playing my piano. The focal length and magnification I need requires a pair or mono vision lenses, and computer work would be a very similar situation. Perhaps that would work better for you.
