It is always sad when any company in our crafty world closes: ClearSnap closing down from Scrapbook Update ClearSnap announced today that they are closing down operations. The Burlington, Washington-based company has been manufacturing industrial and craft inks in the U.S. for nearly 30 years. News of the closure was shared with ClearSnap’s wholesale customers last week. In the announcement to consumers today, ClearSnap said it was sharing the news “with a heavy heart” and thanked customers “for all your continued support over the years.” The company said that the last day to place orders from ClearSnap is July 31st, but gave no final date for ceasing operations. ClearSnap, under its brand name ColorBox, is widely known to scrapbookers and stampers for its signature Cats Eye pigment ink pads. In addition to its pigment ink pads, the company is also known for its Petal Point, Chalk, India Ink, and other specialty inkpads.

That's a real shame...I hate to see any business close.

Those inks last FOREVER! Some of the first ink pads I ever purchased, and they still work. Pretty colours and they blend well.
Sad to hear they are closing. Hard to find products that are beautiful, functional, and reliable.

Chestnut Roan... Nooo! Where can we stock up? How long can they last unopened?

Chestnut Roan... oh, I know! there's also a lime green color that I absolutely love. my suggestion would be to buy reinker(s) rather than a ton of inkpads. Reinkers can be used with any inkpad you already have, or even if you want/need to make a NEW inkpad using blank stamp pad foam. ETA: there's typically at least a couple vendors at the stamping Expos who have a good supply of these inkpads; if your area has an Expo coming up yet this year, it might be a good place to stock up, too.

This just makes me sad. It’s so hard to see a company that makes quality products close down.

The cat eyes inks have been my fav since I started scrapbook! I was just thinking the other day that I need a new brown. Darn. This makes me sad.

I'm pretty sure I have a fairly juicy full-size Chestnut Roan chalk pad in my stash. I just bought some Cat's Eye ink pads on ebay -- Chestnut Roan, Lime Pastel and Charcoal. I think I'll be set for a while!

I’ve been buying Color Box inks since I started stamping 20 or so years ago. It was always my go to for pigment inks. So sad.

I still use my cat’s eye inkers all the time. Just stocked up at an Expo. Sad that another one of our beloved staples is disappearing.

I did not see this coming. At all. I guess Ranger's ink range expansion and the rise of stampmakers' own ink lines have hurt their business over the years? It's a sad end to witness. The ColorBox chalk cat eye pads were my first ink purchase as a newbie scrapbooker.

There are only three or four companies that produce ink. All the newest stampmaker lines use those four companies to make their inks. I think there are two who make embossing powders. There might be a third one. Last year there was a thread over at Splitcoast where the girls were swatching all their newest inks. The consensus was that several of the newest lines the colors matched. Gina's was matching with Hero's, etc... This is why I stay with one or two of the original companies because I don't want seven yellow's that match but have different names, lol. I remember when I was first trying to buy my set of color inks years ago one of the bigwigs in the stamp industry pretty much told me to stop following all the advice I was getting and only research the production lines. Best stamping advice ever! That man saved me so much money and heartache. StampinUp owns ClearSnap. Shelli's husband operates the company. Shelli had a bad accident a few years back with a long recuperation time. She and her DH wanted to do more in their church. This is just an opinion but I think with the MISTI/SU lawsuit, Sizzix being drama queens & just the changes in our industry Shelli and her husband are just getting close to retirement age and want to enjoy life and not industry drama's. I think they are downsizing their portfolio's. Like I said this is all opinion but if you peek at her blog you can see Shelli & her DH have the traveling bug. Who wants to run a company when you can travel. I do wonder where StampinUp will fall into all of this. I don't think we will get a "SU closing" announcement. That company is Shelli's legacy and I don't think she would just slam the door on all the sales reps. ColorBox closing is so sad. It's the nature of business and getting to retirement age. StampinUp closing would be pretty hard hitting since it's so ingrained in our stamp culture. I think Shelli will just pass the reigns to somebody else to run the company. If I remember right her daughter has been doing a lot. ClearSnap is a sweet company. I am sorry they are closing. I hope everyone that worked for them has new wonderful and exciting new future with lots of new opportunities.

I've been trying to find more information about this, but nothing seems to be out there so far.
The Stamp Market is debuting new inks with "Colorbox" on them. They are set to release Sept 5. The owner used to work at Stampin' Up in the art department I believe. It just seems strange to announce a new line manufactured by this company with their pending closure, perhaps ClearSnap isn't going away altogether but changing somehow? I suppose it's possible that the corporation could be dissolved but the Colorbox brand could continue as a new, independent entity. Anyone have any other news about this?

The ladies and the guys who have been stamping for three to four decades that know all these ink companies backwards and forwards have said that HeroArts does not make their own inks and are using Stewart for their contract. That is really not unusual. I do know some of the formulations from HeroArts are their own. Hero Arts still might be using Stewart to formulate those inks. I know it's confusing, I am sorry. Hope that helps.
