It could be scary or emotional or inspirational...whatever.
My was the TV movie The Day After. It was released in 1983 which would have made me 7. I was terrified of nuclear war from that day on.

I was not allowed to watch that one, and I was older then you! Probably a good thing, but man it made me mad! I would have to say Roots. Not that I ever saw the entire thing, or that I was allowed to watch that either. I think I had gotten out of bed for some reason and could see it from the hallway, I just saw one scene but it upset me so much, it was one of the scenes when they were whipping Levar Burton. I remember being frozen in horror. It really upset me and I have never been able to see the whole movie. On a lighter note, the Fembots episode of Bionic Woman scared the tar out of me, I like to watch it periodically, but it still scares me.

Off topic, but I have a story about that movie. The small town I lived in was on a river. A new bridge was built over the river. The old bridge needed to be demolished. A crew from that movie came and filmed the old bridge being blown up. It's in one of the scenes when the bombs go off.

SkellintonI asked my parents what they were thinking. I was in the living room with them and they figured I either wouldn't pay attention or I wouldn't understand. The image of the guy ducking in his car has never left me. I cam picture the car and the guy. I wouldn't look out our kitchen window when I was getting a drink at night because I was terrified I'd see the bomb and mushroom cloud.

When Bobby Simone died on NYPD Blue. I cried big ugly tears for hours afterwards. And the scene in Love, Actually when Emma Thompson realises the necklace she found was not for her. That broke my heart.

There were two:
Trilogy of Terror (1975) on TV and The Godfather (1972) at the theater. So I was 10 for trilogy and 7 for The Godfather. Trilogy is pretty self explanatory, I've always love horror films, but that one was pretty scary for a tv miniseries. The Godfather the scene with the bloody horse's head in the bed scared the crap out of me.

Thanks to all the 70's disaster films my dad thought would be a good idea to take me to as a kid (early elementary age), I hate to fly, I hate high rise buildings and have no interest in going on a cruse. Recently it was seeing The Hate You Give. DD had read the book and warned me I was not going to be okay after watching it, and she was right.

Everest.
Even though I was in my 20's when the events happened, I didn't know anything about it until my husband wanted to go see the movie. I was so affected by it that it took several days for me to process and deal with my feelings over the decisions that each person had made and the consequences of them.

A Day After... I was in high school. I can remember all the hype about it. Although it didn't 'really' bother me, I can remember it. It's pretty hokey now (the special effects).. but another thing my boyfriend (who wasn't my boyfriend at the time it came out) was in it.. he was in college when they filmed it in Kansas.. He just played a dead guy in the gym..

These are the types of movies that get me the most as well. They’re real. Real Life, real decisions, real peoples stories. The 90s version of Titanic had many scenes in it that got to me. It was just the underlining stories behind the Hollywood story. These were real people. Real people who died. The mother with her children in their bed, the older couple, and the people in the life boats watching. Man, those scenes got me.

Schindler's List. I sobbed through so much of that movie. Steven Spielberg has done so much to educate people about the Holocaust. Some of you may not know that he founded the Shoah Foundation to educate people about the Holocaust. Spielberg has done a video project, videotaping as many survivors as possible. My sister's fil was one of the participants and told his story. I have oodles of respect for Steven Spielberg and the work he's done for the Jewish community and the way he has honored everyone who went through that hell.
Ok, I'm off topic...

This is dumb, but it’s the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze. I saw it in the theater with my husband when it came out, and went back with girlfriends a couple of times. Bought the video when it came out. Really loved it. Then my husband was murdered and I sort of got that all wrapped up with the movie in my head, and I couldn’t bring myself to watch it again. I finally did, years later, but it was hard even then. Even though it’s such a sappy movie. And really, I’m not that sappy and emotional most of the time. My DGS played Unchained Melody (which is much older, but was also the theme from Ghost) on his keyboard the other day, and I started crying. Even worse, my son knew exactly why I was crying. Jeez Louise. This is NOT me. Usually. That stupid movie! It could be scary or emotional or inspirational...whatever. My was the TV movie The Day After. It was released in 1983 which would have made me 7. I was terrified of nuclear war from that day on. I watched it as a young mom. There was a slew of nuclear armageddon TV movies around that time ... I think the Cold War was heating up, although honestly at that time, I wasn’t paying much attention to world events.

The tv series six feet under, the episodes following Nate’s death. I don’t know why it affected me so profoundly but I still can’t watch those eps.

An episode of ER with Cynthia Nixon. She was taken there after having a stroke. She could hear everything but couldn’t speak.

When I was little, I happened to watch that scene in Cool Hand Luke when he ate all those hard boiled eggs. I don't know why but it really freaked me out. It's all I remember about the movie but to this day, that scene disturbs me.

The Diary of Anne Frank. I could not fathom that such atrocities could happen. I guess I was in high school when I saw it. I still can’t watch anything about the Holocoust to this day without being traumatized.

There was also one from the BBC called Threads which was the most memorable one, to me. I think it was on PBS here. ETA the Jane Alexander TV movie was called Testament. Just looked it up. It was understated, but very moving, too. I think Jason Robards was in The Day After.

Dexter Season 4–or as we call it in our house, the John Lithgow season. I really liked watching Dexter until that season. It was so creepy and realistic. I woke up with nightmares that I was at the beach and couldn’t find my son or I’d wake up in a panic/sweat that my son was missing and I had to go check on him. The nightmares were so real that I decided I was done with that series. No more Dexter for me. I’ve heard about season five and some of the subsequent stuff that happened, but I don’t care. I will not watch one more episode of Dexter. Especially an episode from season four.
