Invaders from Mars - the original black and white movie from the 50's - terrified my younger brother and I. It was cheesy as could be, but we were like 6 and 9 when we watched it. We were scared for years!

Jaws. Really??? Who lets their ten your old child go see that? I cannot, to this day, sleep with my foot off of the edge of the bed. š¤¦š»āāļø š¦ Carpet Sharks.

After watching Final Destination, I have a legit phobia of impalement. There is a rack at work in the warehouse of 35 foot long pieces of steel.Ā I am terrified that someone will be putting something into the rack from the other end and it will shoot another piece out and impale me.Ā Even new people at work can tell my fear based on how I walk near the rack. It's so bad that when I was bathing my newborn on the bathroom counter, I always put away the toothbrushes first because I was afraid he'd be slippery and I'd drop him and he'd be impaled on the toothbrush. I hate when everyone puts up the markers in the winter for snowplowing.Ā Slippery ground next to things that will for sure impale me is horrifying. I remember seeing that in the theater and coming out just feeling so weird. That movie got to me too.

The Passion of the Christ. I went to the theater alone to see it and was sobbing by the end. I sat there for a long time, as did many others, and when I went to leave a young couple asked if I was okay and offered to walk me to my car. I could never watch it again

No TV series or movies but a book and a play. The book is On the Beach, about the aftermath of a WW3 in which the northern hemisphere has been wiped out due to nuclear war. The book follows a group of people in Australia as they live their lives and await the inevitable nuclear radiation to reach them over the course of several months. I was 12 and it completely freaked me out.
The play is 6 Characters in Search of an Author and I was just fascinated with the notion of how we are all the heroines of our own story but may appear as a villain in someone else's story, and which view of the character is the 'correct' one. It really impacted how I think about human nature and our interactions.

Law Abiding Citizen. The first 10ish minutes of that movie scared the absolute shit out of me. Because it is entirely plausible, and literally my biggest fear. I had a 1 month old baby, and the hormones were a wreck for sure. And this amplified my PPA to an intolerable degree. I ruminated on that horrible movie for well over a year. I will never watch it again, and I tell EVERYONE not to watch it. I hate that movie.
I do not get scared easily. Horror and psychological thrillers are my fav genres of movies. My reaction to this movie shocked me, and my husband.

Jaws - that movie stole my love for the ocean. I wonāt go in the ocean because of it.
Parenthood (the tv show) - I was living the same storyline as Kristina and Peter with their son. The show made me feel like I wasnāt alone in my fears.

Remember the 1970s show āEmergencyā? They had an episode where a kid got his arm or leg (canāt remember) stuck in the drain of a pool! I think the pool was empty of water but that wasnāt the point! I was petrified of the pool drain after I saw that episode!!

I remember watching a Lifetime type movie where a lady was behind a truck that had logs on it. She was impaled through the windshield by it. Now whenever Iām behind a truck hauling something, Iām super aware of it.

Dexter Season 4āor as we call it in our house, the John Lithgow season. I really liked watching Dexter until that season. It was so creepy and realistic. I woke up with nightmares that I was at the beach and couldnāt find my son or Iād wake up in a panic/sweat that my son was missing and I had to go check on him. The nightmares were so real that I decided I was done with that series. No more Dexter for me. Iāve heard about season five and some of the subsequent stuff that happened, but I donāt care. I will not watch one more episode of Dexter. Especially an episode from season four. That was very disturbing. The stuff that happened to his family as a result of his extra curricular activities, very sad. Iāve watched the entire series three times but those episodes with Rita, those are rough. Once I woke up in a sweat and my heart was racing from fearāI decided Iām done. I donāt care how amazing the rest of the show is. When I wake up with that kind of fear, itās probably time to find another show. I was married to a police officer turned criminal defense lawyer and I was working in an emergency department, so we were far from shielded about horrifying things that happen every day. That season just hit to close to home for meāso I was done.

The Birds. Fifty years after seeing it I still occasionally have nightmares about it. I remember being in the theater and during the part of the flock attack, someone yelled "feed them bread"! Kind of broke the mood.

I cannot, to this day, sleep with my foot off of the edge of the bed. š¤¦š»āāļø š¦ My father, in his infinite wisdom, took a 6 yo to see it. Started my fascination with sharks, HOWEVER, he paid the price when I had nightmares for months.
I wasn't allowed to watch "The Day After" and I'm grateful for that.
A TV movie that has stayed with me for years "Something about Amelia". Was the first time I was "exposed" to something like this.

WAR OF THE ROSES! I was starting to go through a divorce when I saw it and I decided there would be no crazy fighting or hanging from the chandeliers for me! this is mine too... my parents were going thru a divorce and i was a teen. i *hated* that movie and remember thinking "why do people think this is funny... why are they laughing?!". when i was younger, it was fantasy island and the love boat - i was sure all my little girl romantic dreams were going to come to fruition if i could just go on that boat or visit that island!!!

Very similar to how I feel about "A Child Named It" - Absolutely heartbreaking and terrifying that people who walk among us could do that to another human...

When Bobby Simone died on NYPD Blue. I cried big ugly tears for hours afterwards. THIS. OMG even my DH was crying. The other movie from when I was younger - Brian's Song. Bawled. The movie PS I love you. I cry every time even though I could probably repeat the movie line for line. Scariest - Children of the Corn - Malachi freaked me out. Silence of the Lambs! For weeks afterwards I could see him standing at my bedroom door! Also the movie Stigmata. There is a scene where the creepy woman is writing on the wall with her fingernail and when she turns around....ARGH!! Even DH said the hair on his neck stood up!! I do not like any movies about the devil (I guess because of 12 years of nuns and Catholic school ....)

And also a show I saw when I was in my 20s about the prophesies of Nostradamus, narrated by Orson Welles. I must have seen this as a child- maybe when I was 10 or so but it stayed with me. I remember waiting years on one of the predictions and when the year or amount of time had passed and his prediction didn't happen I was so relieved. I think that's when I started to doubt that any of it was real.

This is dumb, but itās the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze. I saw it in the theater with my husband when it came out, and went back with girlfriends a couple of times. Bought the video when it came out. Really loved it. Then my husband was murdered and I sort of got that all wrapped up with the movie in my head, and I couldnāt bring myself to watch it again. I finally did, years later, but it was hard even then. Even though itās such a sappy movie. And really, Iām not that sappy and emotional most of the time. My DGS played Unchained Melody (which is much older, but was also the theme from Ghost) on his keyboard the other day, and I started crying. Even worse, my son knew exactly why I was crying. Jeez Louise. This is NOT me. Usually. That stupid movie! It could be scary or emotional or inspirational...whatever. My was the TV movie The Day After. It was released in 1983 which would have made me 7. I was terrified of nuclear war from that day on. I watched it as a young mom. There was a slew of nuclear armageddon TV movies around that time ... I think the Cold War was heating up, although honestly at that time, I wasnāt paying much attention to world events. Oh my goodness I didn't know if you had shared about your husband.. I am so sorry.. that movie for sure get to you!!

I can't remember the tv show- maybe Homicide? Vincent D'Onofrio plays a guy that was pushed off a subway platform and is stuck between the platform and the train. They have to release him but it is 100% sure that he will die when they do. It scarred me.
The other one is a Twilight Zone one where an old lady is killing little alien men in her house. It turns out the alien men are human astronauts. I have a real hard time killing bugs after that episode. I just can't kill anything just because it is smaller than I am. I'm probably remembering the episode all wrong but that is what I took away from it.

Ladder 49 - my BIL was FDNY and the idea of my sister getting a visit from his captain brought me to tears.
My Life with Nicole Kidman and Micheal Keaton. It was not too long after my father died of cancer and it was just too close and I couldn't get through it.

You are remembering the episode accurately, Agnes Moorehead is the actress and she is battling the āaliensā, and they attack her first. She is protecting herself. One of my favorite episodes.
