In a hotel, waiting for our apartment to be ready. Supposed to move in on Friday. Just got a call saying that apartment has a leak and it will not be ready until Sunday. Would you ask for them to pay the hotel for the 2 extra days? Update: They paid for the hotel and gave us a slightly bigger apartment for the same price, since they don't know when the original apartment will be ready now. So it all worked out. Thanks for all the help.

When does your lease start? Do you have a set move-in date in writing?

Yes, lease says move in Friday, the 9th.

Then yes, why not ask? It seems a reasonable request.

It doesn't seem like you should have to pay for the hotel. Maybe even agree to split the extra two nights if needed.

I think you should have to suck it up. Things happen. No it's not your fault. But it's not theirs either.

Yes, I would expect them to cover the hotel cost.
If you were already moved in and a leak caused you to be displaced, the landlord would be paying that, too. I'd expect a clause in your lease covers this.

They should either cover the cost of the hotel or prorate your rent by the days you can’t use the apartment. I’d ask for both and settle for one.
If they can’t fulfill their part of the contract, they need to make up for that.

Yes. I would expect some kind of compensation since they couldn’t provide the apartment as promised.

At minimum they should deduct 2 days from your rent (probably far less than 2 nights at a hotel but better than nothing).

I think in addition to the hotel cost, meal costs should be covered. OP was probably not planning on eating 3 meals out after Thursday night.
My husband was moving into a new apartment and the Certificate of Occupancy was delayed. They put him into a furnished apartment, helped him move his personal belongings when the apartment was ready and also gave him a generous gc to a nice restaurant to make up for the inconvenience.

Good update. When do you get to move in now? Will the same rate apply if you renew your lease or will it go up next year?
