I think I usually get a cold every spring and fall, more or less. DH is paranoid about touching door handles and such, and he always seems to think that it's my non-paranoia about this that causes me to get sick. But I wash my hands frequently and don't think I get sick more than anyone else. How often do you catch a cold?
ETA - we just watched this video on CNN about how the ebola virus can live outside the body for awhile, so this was used to reinforce his "don't touch doorhandles" policy. To clarify, he uses his shirt tail or a paper towel or whatever, and I do that to a certain extent too, but sometimes I just don't think of it, or it's not possible or whatever.

I usually get two colds. One in winter, and one in summer. I noticd that in the last 3 years, I'm only getting one per year. I'm really bad at drinking lots of water, and forcing myself to drink more. I think the excess trips to the bathroom are helping, as I am washing my hands more often. Yet another bonus.

2 or 3. I'm in the last stages of a nasty one right now. I had a fever, aches and pains and at some points I was coughing so hard I vomited. Not because of nausea, but because the coughing bothered my gag reflex. It seems like parents of young kids bring it to where my husband works, he brings it home and then I get it. .

Hardly ever.....maybe 1 a year. I always take echinacea when I suspect one might be starting and it comes to nothing.

At most, 1 per year. I do wash my hands frequently but I don't avoid touching things like doorknobs, shopping carts etc.

I had several when I went back to college, but after that first year hardly any. Though I am in the College of Public Health, so there is probably a lot more hand washing going on (and probably for longer) than is normal for the average public. There is also a lot more leeway for missing classes for illness than I found to be true in the other undergrad classes/departments. My kids and husband get about 2 a year also.

Maybe 1 every 3 to 4 years. DH on the other hand generally gets one every year.

Hardly ever, maybe once a year. I don't worry that much about door knobs (except public bathrooms) and only wash my hands after going to the bathroom and before cooking. I don't use hand sanitizer.

Maybe one a year, if that. I had one earlier this year, but haven't for the two years prior

With little kids in the house who are now out going to play groups and preschool, several a year. When the kids are older, not as many, but still probably at least 2-3. I wash my hands constantly at home, but I think kisses, shared food, little kids who sneeze directly in my face probably contributes to the spread of disease in this house.

One, maybe two. But I have a few more "off" days where my nose may run for a day. Not a full blown cold, but more of a couch potato and ibuprofen day. If that makes sense. I notice my "off" days correlate with my kids' colds, so I imagine my immune system is strong enough to fight it off for the most part so I don't get truly sick.

I get probably 3 to 5 a year. I wash my hands all the time. Some are just little sniffles and a cough but at least 2 of them a year are really bad and take me a long time to get over. Once I told my doctor that I had a cold for a little over a month she said that a cold can't last that long that she believed I was getting over one cold and immediately catching another cold. I was thinking whatever lady I was still sick for over a month I couldn't care less which germs caused it.
I work at a nursing home where a lot of the residents don't cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze and many of them don't wash their hands unless someone does it for them. I think that's why I get sick so much.

Once or twice per year, perhaps? And then I'm usually sick for a day or two.

Maybe 1 every 3 to 4 years. This is me as well. Unfortunately, though I have allergies especially around this time of year.

I haven't had a cold in years. Maybe 10 years. I seriously don't remember the last time I had a cold.

LOL, that's what I always think when people tell me that "you don't catch a cold from being out in the cold, it's just that the cold lowers your resistance." So?

I don't get colds. My turn right into sinus infections. Now that I'm retired it's not as bad because I don't "have" to do anything. But they used to put me in bed for a solid week.

I had a cold this year - my first in maybe 3 or 4 years. I use a sinus rinse daily and am sure that helps keep things at bay.

For the past five years I've worked in hospitals and I've had maybe two colds in all that time. And haven't been sick with anything else. I'd like to think I'm not "paranoid" about germs but rather "prudent". lol. I use hand sanitizer every time I turn around at the hospital, plus I was my hands with soap after about five or six patients. No matter where I am I never touch the restroom door handle after I've washed my hands. If it's not a push door I use a paper towel. I also try not to rub my eyes or touch my mouth. Now...I just started substitute teaching at the very end of last year. I wasn't sick at all during those two months. Fast forward to now, school has only been in session since September and I've already had one cold. Those kids are little germ incubators.... !

Maybe one every 3-4 years. I am around a lot of people at work too. I never use hand sanitizer, do not foot flush, will eat something I drop on the floor under the 5 second rule, touch door handles and shopping carts.
Though I abide by a reasonable and normal hand washing protocol, I am every germaphobes nightmare.

I work in the schools. I get a mild cold at the beginning of the school year. It's never bad enough to take meds or anything. It lasts maybe two days, if that.
My girls get sick once a year typically with a mild stomach bug. They may get a very mild cold once a year, too. Desks are *filthy* and both share desks with several children (changing classes.) I remind them to wash their hands/sanitize before lunch but I think they forget sometimes.

I haven't had a cold in 4 or 5 years. Thank goodness! I have asthma and when I get one, it heads straight for my lungs. I'm very careful about hand washing, cleaning shopping carts and keeping my hands away from my face when I am out.

I catch a cold about once every 5 years - seriously! And I get a stomach virus maybe once every 15 years. I'm one lucky girl . I teach, so I think I must have become immune to most things early on. I was constantly sick the first two years I taught.

I catch a cold maybe once every two years. I work with several women who seem to frequently be sick. I swear some of them have hacking coughs the whole damn year. I don't think people at my office are diligent hand washers. Therefore I make sure I am, and I never touch the bathroom doorknobs with my bare hands.

I feel like answering this might be cursing myself. I haven't had a cold for probably 7-8 years. I get step if I catch something. That is cured with a z pack in 24 hours. I work in a school and lots of teachers get sick multiple times a year.

One it starts with allergies in the fall and ends when my spring allergies end....
Okay there are some days where I am not congested but not many!
Not a full on snotty nose cough...just can't quite shake it for more than a week or two.

None. I think teaching for so many years has resulted in my building up an immunity to the myriad illnesses that float through my classrooms. On the other hand, I do generally get laryngitis about once a year as a result of a sinus infection starting from allergies. It's enough to make me cranky and unable to do any kind of lecturing but not enough to stay home.
