Welp...its been awhile since she has done something post worthy crazy...but she has struck again today! It is 1:45...and no one can get to the copy machine for the rest of the afternoon apparently. The only copier is in a room behind her office. As in, you have to walk through her office to get to the copier. She is working on something so secret that no one is allowed in her office right now So she left and locked her door. So now no one can get or make copies or scans....... We are a school! We make copies! They won't pay for a second copier, and they won't relocate this one to a more user friendly place. I have no clue what this super secret project could be that would make her lock her office.... Sigh.....

I could never work in that environment. How can teachers be effective teachers if they cannot manage their own classrooms. I would be job hunting.

I would steal her keys and make a copy of the door key. That is crazy.

Funny thing is....There is a window in her office that looks into the hallway. It is right next to her door. The window is slid open right now because she has a Halloween decoration on the window sill that extends out of the window a bit. Anyone could just reach their arm in and open the door from the inside.....

I'd love to know what her little secret squirrel project is -- keep us posted.

If she says anything you can just say "Oh, we figured since you left, you were done and had just forgotten to unlock the door again" hehe

So last week I heard that her sister, the book keeper, was getting concerned about some past due invoices. I run a report every week and follow up on those that are past due with reminders or phone calls. There wasn't anything really concerning to me. I know my parents. I know which ones don't like to write a lot of small checks and wait till the end of the month and write one larger check, and I have some who I am having to work with on payment plans to get caught up. Then there were a bunch of invoices at $250 a pop for the spring trip that had just gone out but weren't really due just yet. Nothing I was concerned about. The total outstanding invoices were about $4000.00. It just so happened that $1010.00 of that (25%!) was crazy's three grandkids not paying for their after school enrichment classes for two months! lol. So...crazy comes into my office all concerned and asking a bunch of questions about the $4000.00 and why was it so high? I went down the list and was able to explain where we stood with each of them, and most of them were small amounts....except HER FAMILY that accounted for 25% of the total! lol~ "Oh, you can just take those off. I don't mind." she said. Uhhhhhh....."no, I won't just take them off". That would mess up not only my spreadsheets but the accounting. She brought in a check for $1010.00 the next morning...... I know the check probably won't be deposited, but at least on my end I can clear the invoices with proof of payment and put the check onto the deposit slip. What she does after I give her the deposit is on her. If she doesn't deposit it...welp...that is out of my control, but at least I have a paper trail that it got "paid".
Cracked me up...."I don't mind!".....smh
Oh...and I told her about one conversation I had with a parent when I called regarding their past due invoices. It wasn't like this parent not to stay current. The mom said that she was hesitant to give cash to the aftercare lady in the evenings because it seemed to confuse her, and she didn't trust her not to lose her payment. The aftercare lady is really ditzy....she is in her late 70's and the kids and parents love her but she is a looney tunes to me. And there is still no place for her to lock up any money she gets. I get it....she doesn't like to just leave money and checks on my desk since nothing in my office (including the door) locks! So once again I suggested one of those lockable boxes with the slit in it that screws into the wall for her to drop payments into for me.
A few days later crazy tell me...."Oh...I spoke to "aftercare lady" and she doesn't mind taking payments.".....OK...you missed the point! It was the PARENT who minded...not "aftercare lady"....Anyways, they found a safe in the attic and she will lock the money in the safe. OK....and how am I supposed to get the money in the mornings? I don't have a key! Well...crazy has the second key and she will open it and give me the money. Yeah....I don't really trust her on that (if you read all my posts about her you will remember her making deposits with moneys I had not yet put into the spreadsheets or made deposit slips for....). "And what if you are not here?" I asked. No answer. Ugh...Just give me the damn second key! I think I will just ask her every day to check the safe for money until she gets tired of that and finally gives me that key so I can check myself and I won't have to worry about her messing things up again.

I don't know if this has been asked but does the school have a board or other entity that they answer too? If they do I would be trying to get a meeting with the head of it.

I am looking for another job. But I can't just leave until I find a good fit. I have to be able to drop off and pick up three girls from school, so I need flexibility.
This is a privately owned school.....Their mother started the school, and she passed away two years ago. Now the "family" runs it....ie: crazy and her sister.
So...last night admin had a very "heated" meeting apparently. They are going over budgets with fine tooth combs. I really think they are in a financial bind. After looking at last years expenses...crazy and her sister went off on the lower school director for spending $100.00 on a Christmas party. She spent $100.00 for a party for 111 students.....so 90 cents per student!OMG....lol Then they started ranting about how there were no expenses input into the budgets for things that happen throughout the school year.... The admissions director had to point out that they were looking at THIS years budget for those things.....and they hadn't had any expenses to input yet because the events hadn't happened yet! Duh.... Everyone has started keeping a "covering my ass" file for emails ect. since the crazies don't ever remember what was discussed and what they decided during the weekly meetings. They forget soooo many things. I got an email this morning because book keeper sister was looking at the outstanding invoices. She can't differentiate between the report for what was invoiced each month vs the past due invoices for the month. She had a list of all these "charges" that dated back to September and complaining how high the numbers were. I need to call and collect all of these by Thanksgiving break....yada yada Uh.....some of those invoices are charges that are invoiced but have a due date of a week or so in the future.... When you look at September you have to look at what is past due....not outstanding. It could have been invoiced on Sept. 30...but not due till mid October...It will still show up as being invoiced in Sept...but that does not mean it is in arrears from September. So I told her what the total past due amount was....it was $1800.00. And that I was getting $1200.00 of that in the afternoon...and at the end of the day there was only $590 showing as past due. Why all the micromanaging? I am doing my job! grrrrr......I personally think that having only $590 in past due invoices is pretty darn good! Especially considering that $400.00 of that is from one parent and we have made payment arrangements with them.

My head would have exploded long ago! But I remember being micromanaged and bearing it for the same reason. I needed to be flexible for my own children. I hope these 2 sisters miss their old lives soon and decide to step aside to let you all do your jobs.

We had our annual fire inspection scheduled earlier this week. On the morning of the inspection, the inspector called to inform us that we were going to fail if the required paperwork (which crazy was supposed to send in two weeks ago) was not in by the time they got there....lol...Now you tell me.... who is the one that needs to be micromanaged?!?!?
....and on my phone voicemail (because my extension is listed as the "financial office"....was the janitorial company calling about their past due invoices that hadn't been paid for MAY and JULY! Pot....meet kettle....lol They get all up in arms if people here are one day late paying something as small as a $10 charge....but haven't paid their own bills from like six months ago?!?!?!

I hope you find another job quickly. I fear they will not be able to pay the employees soon. There is no way they will stay open with this kind of management.

Yes....one of the teachers is the after school piano class teacher. She gets a separate check for teaching piano. She said her last check was late, so she asked about it. She was told it had been mailed...wait a few more days and then they would void and reissue. Two days later she got the check....postmarked with the day she had called. She said "do they think I can't see the postmark when it was mailed?" Subs have issues getting their checks too. I saw a note on crazy's desk along with the bottle of hand soap from the kitchen area that said "Watered down soap in the kitchen makes me mad!"....lol....they are watering down all the soap!
Next year they are going to implement a new tuition policy that states if you withdraw or leave during the school year for any reason, tuition for the full year is still due. That should go over well.... I know other schools do this, but they aren't small "specialized" schools like we are. Lets just say our student base is unique. We fill a niche for some very special snowflakes and it doesn't always work out.

I have to say, I've just spent more time than I was intending to, reading through this train-wreck. Thank you for the updates. It's all very readable and relatable. Part of me hopes that you'll find another position quickly, and another part of me is thoroughly enjoying the madness!

I really hope you find another position soon. I think the writing is on the wall. Not paying janitorial services? Watering down soap? I mean - if you're watering down soap, you're at the point of no return in my opinion. I fear for the next few months for the students, staff, and parents as this crumbles. I hope I'm wrong, but it's a school and she came close to not being able to pass the yearly fire inspection. Nope, nope, nope. I hope, like you, everyone involved is getting their Plan B together.

This story is wild. I'd be surprised if this school didn't close before the end of the school year. I hope you are able to find a job that fits your schedule before it all ends. It' s going to get so messy.

agree with the previous posters.. you might not have the luxury of waiting for just the right job to come along. all signs point to this one going under very soon. :/ i'd redouble your efforts if there's any way you can!

Wow crazy woman is really nuts. I can't imagine being micromanaged that much and can't believe that more haven't left. I hope you can find another job soon because it doesn't sound like this one will be around much longer. Good luck and glad that you are looking for another job and documenting everything in case you have to cover your !@#.
