Welp...we ran out of copy paper...AGAIN! They only order one MAYBE two cases at a time because crazy doesn't like things to be "seen". And that is all that will fit inside the cabinets....because heaven forbid we order several cases and have those ugly boxes laying around the copy room. The downside of that being that no one can see when it is running low...then someone uses the last ream and doesn't say anything...and then I go to grab transcripts off the machine and find out it is out of paper. I tear through all the cabinets...none to be found. Luckily I keep one ream in my office for just such emergencies. We are a school! We use a lot of paper! Order more than one freaking case of paper. Then mark one case with "TELL THE FRONT OFFICE WHEN YOU OPEN THIS CASE!" so we can order more BEFORE we run completely out! How hard is it people!?!?!?! When the copier was in my office we never ran out of paper...just saying.... You want the copier in your office? You want the paper hidden from view? Then keep an eye on the paper status!

Please send me your address. I want to send you some running shoes. You need to run - not walk - RUN from that place as fast as you can!

Welp...we got back from Thanksgiving break and the paper still had not been ordered. Teachers have been purchasing their own or using colored papers they found. Crazy had others using the guillotine cutter to cut down larger sheets to size(which makes the copier get jammed...). We finally got(only) two cases delivered today. With finals coming up that won't last very long.
I noticed that my trash can had not been emptied this week....and was told that crazy and her husband are now coming in at night to do the cleaning! lol! I guess not paying the janitorial service had a downside!

houstonsandy, have you had any luck finding alternate employment? Do you think someone else would buy the school and run it properly? Shaking my head in disbelief.

Goodness, what a disaster. A comic one, but not so much for the employees and students. I really hope you can find a job run by sane people.

I would really like to work at the school that the three International girls I host parent attend. I know people there...its just a matter of waiting for something to open up. So I will bide my time and grit my teeth and tough it out for the rest of the school year. It would be tough to find another job with the hours that I need to be able to drop off and pick up the girls. I will be looking more seriously this summer though. Also, if I can just get though next year when my dd graduates college. Then my expenses will be greatly reduced since I won't have to pay her rent, insurance, living expenses ect. Hopefully I can then afford to quit this job and just live off the income from hosting....or at least go down to a part-time job somewhere.
I seem to have a knack for finding employment with wacky people. One of my first jobs...in a hospital pharmacy...had the window where nurses could come to pick up orders. My boss would say his goodbyes...then squat down outside under the window to see if we talked about him after he left! The nurses would call from down the hall to ask us if we knew that James was hiding under the window....lol... He was so paranoid that he even had speakers placed throughout the pharmacy so he could hear all the conversations while he sat in his office. They didn't last long before someone mysteriously ripped them out!

Sheesh, you could write a book. "How Not To Run A Business".
I am sorry you are stuck in this mess. But, you are a very descriptive writer, so we are enjoying the show.
I would submit expense reports for every sheet of paper I purchased and demand repayment.

houstonsandy I sure hope that your daughter is working part-time while in school, considering the mess that her cat made in your home, while she was shopping with friends. By collage, kids should have a part-time job and life should be a bit difficult for them, not made too comfy by their parent(s). This is to nudge them to go out on their own and start to support themselves.

Yes...she actually had two part time jobs this semester. The pizza place she was working at closed a few weeks ago (another example of a very inept employer/business owner. I guess the knack for finding wacky employers runs in the family)...and her on campus job moves off campus this month so she can't stay with that one due to the new location being too far away to make it work with her class schedule. She will be looking for new jobs to start after she returns from Christmas break. I am waiting for the protection plan people to schedule to come out to look and see what they will do as far as the sofa goes. I "may" get a new sofa out of it...which I will wrap in plastic every time the darn cat comes back home. For now it is locked in my bath room while I am at work, and then only gets to get out as much as my bedroom while I am in there with it. (My bathroom is very large...so I don't feel too sorry for it being locked up...)

I do put money into savings to cover the summer months, so I wouldn't be immediately in trouble....I could survive long enough to find another job of some sort if I'm forced to. Hopefully they can stay afloat another two years....then I should easily be able to say so long! and still be ok with just my hosting salary. (My hosting salary is twice what this salary is....ain't nobody getting rich working here!)
We were all very shocked this week to get an invitation to a Christmas luncheon at a nice restaurant after we early dismiss for the Christmas break. We are all joking that we will be told after we eat that it is dutch treat!

If your dd has enough money for a cat, she has enough money to board it while she comes home.

Do not leave any personal items in your desk or filing cabinet. One day the doors will be locked and you will never be able to retrieve those items. Same with any information that you may want later. Compile it now and remove it from the school. An example might be how to get in touch with your co-workers. Once the doors close, things like that become much more difficult. That is a very good point as they will likely just close without notice and you won’t be able to get back in. I would gather any info I might need and have it at home. Good luck with finding another job soon.

Honestly, the writing is on the wall and I almost would not be surprised if they announce they are closing at the luncheon. One last blow out, if you will. People who are financially sound do not do the things your employer is doing. They are sinking and its just a matter of how quickly the go down.

Can you work more hours at the hosting job? That seems to be a better investment with your time.

Long ago DH worked for a company in financial trouble. He began taking his paycheck to his employer’s bank (not to our bank) to cash it in person. He wanted to be sure his paycheck cleared without possibility of a chargeback to his account.

I would not be thinking they can hold on for another two years! It honestly sounds as if they could close at any time. I think the advice to be prepared to have the job end suddenly is spot on. I’d be making sure you have any information you might need as others are right in saying you may be shut out with no access when the school closes - and from what you’ve said, that could happen at any time.

I agree with other peas, IF you get a CHECK, not a direct deposit, take it to the SCHOOLS bank and cash it no matter how inconvenient it is. I'm assuming since you've mentioned she takes things to deposit, it isn't an out of state bank! Otherwise, it may bounce and cause your payments to bounce. I agree to take anything personal you value home with you. And make sure you have contact info for any co-workers you wish to stay in contact with. I'm glad that this isn't your only source of income and you have some backup. My last office job was with someone this nutty and controlling. She wasn't on the verge of bankruptcy but I did have to waste a lot of my time researching that YES, you DO owe that much money because you didn't bother to pay your bill for several months. And having to keep on her case to pay her quarterly tax and utilities and so on. One time she was tied up with a client and wanted ME to take the tax payment to the bank but I didn't have my car that day. I was rather happy that I had to take HER car and not waste MY gas. And she wanted us to try to get her clients to pay their co-pays a month in advance (most REFUSED to do so!) and HATED to give us our paychecks! Never before 5 pm on Friday and sometimes we had to wait around 15 or 20 minutes OFF the clock until she got around to SIGNING the checks!!! Then you had to race to the bank before they closed... And if she was on one of her many vacations (we LOVED it when she was gone, easier to do our jobs!), the person holding the paychecks was told to make sure she didn't give them out early in the day, we weren't allowed to go cash them on our lunch hour. Not sure why, the money was THERE, I know because it was my job to post everything and balance her bank accounts. She just couldn't stand to actually PAY her employees. As you can imagine, she had a high turnover. Oh, and I found out that you NEVER gave her as a reference because you were now the enemy and she bad mouthed everyone that dared give her as a reference. One person that quit and worked the 2 weeks notice, boss loved their work, bad mouthed her to several jobs that girl applied for after she quit. She found out from ONE, I think she had a friend working there, that boss gave her a bad reference. She got the very next job where she did NOT list that job... I know for a fact that she didn't acknowledge one person the whole two weeks she worked out her notice. There are many many more things that happened but I learned from everyone else, just said I quit and walked out when I finally had enough. Took a month off to get over the trauma from working for her and been at this job over 8 years. Oh and at the job I have NOW, out in public, see everyone in this small town. I found out what her former clients REALLY thought about her. It was even MORE of an eye opener. They were all "I'm SO glad you are out of there!" I wish you all the best, sorry you are going through this but sad to say that I enjoy reading about this train wreck, been there and done that!

I feel the same as mom does - the writing is on the wall, all you need to do is read it and pay attention. They're going under and you're foolish to think they're going to be around another two years. If you continue to work there, go in each day prepared for it to be your last day, because it's coming. They aren't ordering more paper because they don't have the funds to pay for it; the same reason they're now doing the custodial work instead of paying someone to do it. Your stories have been entertaining to read, but it's at the point where it's not even funny anymore.

The invitation had three meal choices to choose from, so its not like you can order whatever you want off the menu....so they are paying for it. My "hosting" job is actually a full time 24/7 job...lol..so I can't add more hours. I am the guardian to three high school students at another private school....three lovely girls who are from Vietnam, studying here. They live with me full time while they are attending school and I am responsible for them just as if they were my own. This is my second year doing this. Since the stipulation is that they each have their own bedroom (they can share a bath..) I am at my limit as I do not have any more bedrooms available. My own dd has to bunk with me when she comes home from college because her old room is hers no more! lol.

Your stories have been entertaining to read, but it's at the point where it's not even funny anymore. TBH, they have never ordered more than four cases of paper at a time because Crazy is so anal about not having things look messy or ugly. She has a thing about seeing boxes anywhere. So its in part a storage issue, as we do not have a large enough area to store the reams where they are "out of sight" for more than 2 cases at a time. There are plenty of open bookcase shelves right next to the copy machine...but she does not want the paper stored there because it "looks messy"....sigh...its a copy room! You can only get to it by going through your office! Who cares?!?! Well...apparently she does. Unfortunately, this does make it easy to run out of paper. They have apparently hired a new janitorial company. They came in yesterday to get keys and alarm codes. I don't have much in my office that has any personal/sentimental value. We weren't allowed to bring in too much to personalize our spaces....although I did slowly keep adding things to the walls and she hasn't mentioned anything about it yet. The key was to do it slowly over time. But everything I brought was bought at goodwill! lol....I wasn't going to spend too much just in case. It actually looks quite nice and cozy with all my thrift finds!

Funny quote from yesterday: Crazy was looking at outstanding invoice balances....things that have been invoiced with a due date a week out. She thinks things should be due immediately because....."When I drive on the tollway I have to pay immediately. I can't drive on the tollway and pay a week later!" Uhhhhh.....yes you can. Its called having a tollway account and getting the sticker for your car so you are billed monthly.... So she compares school charges to tollway charges...I just stood there and stared at her....and said "Well, we give them a week here."

Crazy is back at it! The school has been closed since we left for Spring Break. I am working from home. I have a cabinet full of student medications (mostly Ritalin and Epipens) that I need to have parents pick up. We decided to let parents know that they could come pick them up today or tomorrow between 1 and 3pm.
There is a covered drive-thru and door to the building right outside my office. Like..two steps from my office door. There are windows so that I can see a car drive up into the covered area right from my desk. My plan: Have parent drive into the covered drive thru, I would see them, grab their medication, bag it and set the bag right outside the door so they could then pick it up. Contactless delivery! and I can be working in my office while I wait for someone to show up.
There is another drive-thru and door at the opposite end of the building where crazy's office is. Her office is 78 steps away from my office. I know because I count the steps every...single...time I have to go down there to pick up copies from the printer that is in her office.
Her plan: Have parents drive into that drive thru....text/call me.....and then I walk the 78 steps across the building to place the medication outside that door for them to pick up. Says I can't use the driveway and door at my end of the building because our school policy says that only the door near her office should be used as an entrance for building security. (Ignore the fact that the lunch lady uses the door next to me every school day to go in and out of the building....but whatever) Uhhhhh....and I'm pretty sure that only applies when school is in session and there are students to be concerned about. I'm going to be the only person there today. No one is going to enter the building. WHY CAN'T I USE THE FREAKING DOOR RIGHT BY MY OFFICE THEN?!?!?!
Through many texts and emails over the weekend pleaing my case to use the door on my end of the building it ended up last night as me waiting in her office for the parents to drive up (but I can't do my work in your office!)which means bagging up all the medications and taking the bags down to her office and me just sitting there for two hours waiting to see who would show up.
This morning she texts me and says No....I should work in my office and then just walk down to that door whenever anyone shows up and texts/calls me to let me know they are there. Sigh....

Take it down to her office and tell her she has to deal with it since she wants the parents coming to her door. Then walk down to your office and stay there. This woman is a moron.
