I'm not sure what your relationship is with this woman but I'd simply tell her that doesn't work for me. Is she trying to frustrate you so much you quit?

Is this a department cell phone?

She won't be there today...she is letting me in and turning off the alarm and then leaving. It is my cell phone they will be texting/calling. Both myself and the principal spent all day yesterday trying to tell her this did not work for me.... She just likes "being in charge". So many of the teachers want to come in while I am there to clean out their rooms but I have been told not to let anyone in the building. They will have to contact her to make arrangements to come in. She's a controlling dumbass all right!

If she is not going to be there I would either just sit in her office and read a book while waiting for parents or have them come to your door.

I love this thread! What an asshat. I'd just make arrangements and not tell her and not answer her calls, texts or emails. Imagine what she'd do? LOL

She will probably watch the security footage....and the alarm to the door near me is not unarmed.... Then, when I got here...there is an A/C van blocking the drive where we told the parents to pull in! So now I have to walk out to the parking lot. Crazy just came in to give me the reasons why not to use my door.
1. Its not a good turn, someone ran into one of the brick columns earlier this year....so they don't want people using it.
2. She is trying to limit the areas she has to "clean and disinfect".
Then went on to say "there are just so many reasons...."
So far one parent arrived at 12:40....(email said between 1 and 3....) Then two parents came between 1 & 1:15.
Crazy just came to me to explain her reasoning and asked...are you done? Did everyone come already? lol.... Duh.....no? We have more than three kids on meds......

So when we set up the two days for parents to come and get the medications, crazy said that if anyone could not make it on those days/times that she is up there almost every day anyways so those parents could schedule another time with her if they needed to. OK...we did have three or so parents who did not come Mon or Tues. Last night one of the parents wanted to know if she could today and I told her I would check. Crazy said no, she had a meeting today..ask if she could come next week. But first she asked me "Why couldn't they come Mon or Tues?" I didn't ask them why?!?! Does it matter? Is that a stipulation for whether you will meet them or not? smh..... So this morning I got a text and crazy said she would be at school today after all between 12:30 and 2:30 if the parent wanted to come then. I let the parent know. When I got the text from the parent saying she would be there soon, I texted crazy to make sure she was still there and to alert her to expect the mom shortly. She texts back...."Where is the medication?" Uh.....its in the medication file cabinet.....like where you went in on Monday to get the meds for that one mom who got there at 12:40 (before I got there)? Remember doing that? Same place....

You need to let her deal with the parents arranging to pick up meds. When someone contacts you give them her number and let her set it up. Why are you having to be the middle man?

Why are you having to be the middle man? ...the parents know me and like me...and I don't trust her not to mess things up if left to do it on her own. She always offers to take on responsibilities but then either doesn't follow through or does it wrong. At least this way I know what was "supposed" to happen.... She is currently taking responsibility for collecting the mail. Some parents who normally bring me money for tuition ect in person in the office have had to mail in the last payments. Its like pulling teeth to find out if a check arrived in the mail so that I can credit student accounts. She just gets the money and deposits it and doesn't think that I need to know the details so that I can keep the accounts straight and account for payments.... It makes me so anxious when she is telling people to bring cash instead of checks because I can never track that down if she does not tell me about it.

As a parent, I would never pay tuition in cash! I agree with beachgurl. That is a huge red flag.

Can you send an email to all the parents that says "if you pay by cash, please send me an email with the amount so I can send you a receipt"? That way it makes it sound like you are doing it for their benefit when in reality it is for yours?

Quit bailing her out. She wants to be in control of returning meds to the parents, let her. If she screws it up, it’s on her.

I can't think of a single reason for asking for tuition payments in cash that isn't nefarious.
Tread carefully there, OP. This is not going to end well.

Can you send an email to all the parents that says "if you pay by cash, please send me an email with the amount so I can send you a receipt"? That way it makes it sound like you are doing it for their benefit when in reality it is for yours? I do this already. I also ask that when they put a payment into the mail that they let me know so I can keep tabs on what and when to expect payments to arrive. Then I start bugging crazy to make sure that she received it. After verifying the payment was received I will then send the parent a receipt/updated invoice reflecting the payment.
Since these are the final tuition payments due for the current school year she wants cash because a check can bounce. If it bounces after we have already finished the school year and the child has received all their final grades, report cards, promotions, transcripts ect then we basically have no records to with hold to ensure that final payment. So I can see her point on that one to a degree. I just think that a money order or cashier's check would be better than cash.
The medications (mostly Ritalin and a few inhalers and EpiPens) are part of my job duties, so they are my responsibility to keep track of.

You would be surprised how many parents we have they pay for things in cash. I have taken in payments of over $10,000 in cash before.....not fun to count! I have had to go and dig through backpacks to find envelopes with up to $500 in them....in cash!...in a 5th graders backpack!
We are so behind the times! We cannot take credit card payments in the office. We are just now changing to a tuition billing system that will allow parents to make payments for all the other misc fees online using electronic checking information or credit cards. Prior to now, all misc fees such as books, athletic fees, fundraisers, club dues, extended care, school trips, tickets, in office tuition payments, ect have all had to be paid for by either cash or check.

A few new stories....
1. Stories about money:
We are doing summer school. Payment for the classes was due by March 1st. One of the parents mailed a check several weeks ago but it had not yet arrived according to "crazy" (she checks the mail every day). So I called the parent Tuesday to get more information because the principal would not buy the license for the student if it had not yet been paid. Parent checked and the check had not been cashed, so she met me at the school and personally gave me another check.
Now, I had been asking crazy several times a week if she had received any payments I needed to know about. She always denied getting anything. Welp....I met crazy at the school the next morning...and lo and behold she has a crumpled envelope for me. Its the check that had been mailed out weeks before. Claims it just came! Yeah...right....
Since she had been denying getting any other payments, I contacted another parent who brings in cash installments every other week for her very behind tuition balance. She told me she had brought $500 to "crazy" last week. Okay.....so I asked crazy again if she had any payments. And told her the mom told me she had brought her money (I didn't say when)..."Yes! she just brought it!" sigh.....
Then there was another family whose last payment via FACTS had bounced, so they had sent a check back in April. Crazy claims it, too, never arrived. So around May 18th the family had another check sent, this time via their banks service. I have been asking every two days if crazy received it. Nope...not in today's mail was always the response. Today when I went in to school to do some work in the office, she comes to me with an envelope. Its the check. A bank check dated May 18th. It also "just arrived".....
I swear there is a big old pile of mail lost somewhere in crazy's house.
2. Stories about teacher inservice day.
Today was a previously scheduled in service day. The teachers all showed up today to clean out their rooms, ect. Apparently, via a zoom meeting with the principals and other administration, crazy had said for teachers to stagger when they arrived, so as not to have everyone there at the same time. This is what was communicated to the teachers and they made their plans accordingly. The school would be open from 9 to 3.
Well....today around 10, crazy asked the elementary principal why all of her teachers were not there? The principal reminded her that she had wanted them to stagger when they got there, so some were coming in later through the day.
Apparently crazy had changed her mind. Now she wants them all there at the same time. Uhhhhhh.....lol The prinicpal was like "but you said.....look, I even wrote it down...." Crazy wanted her to contact the teachers and tell them to come in now. Principal even called one of the other admin staff and he verified that she had wanted them to stagger...and said he still had a copy of the zoom meeting if she wanted to replay it for crazy! lol
Also during the zoom meeting crazy had said that the teachers should get their bulletin boards ready for when we return. So the teachers were all getting them set up. Then crazy decides, no....they should leave the bulletin boards empty (for what ever crazy reason.....I didn't hear that part). So then the principal has to tell them to undo everything they had done! She was not pleased about having to do that!
As for me....I was supposed to be scanning all of the preschool and kindergarten progress and report cards, emailing them to parents, and then uploading them onto the student records. Well, that would have been much easier if the scanner was working! I told crazy about the scanner so she could see about having it fixed (she had told the principal earlier that the printer/scanner settings were all messed up). She fiddled with it, but in the end I had to use my phone to scan all the stuff, email it to myself, then download the scans as pdfs, then email them and upload to the student records. It made for a very tedious procedure and I was so happy to finally leave that place~
I didn't even get a chance to delve into the message on my phone from a past student who apparently needs a copy of his diploma from 2014....(we don't keep copies of diplomas) I think I'll let crazy handle that one!

Crazy and her sister are trying to figure out my summer hours today. I have a long list of things to do already, but I'm not starting on them until I know what the deal is. They agreed to 10 hours a week and they want me to physically work in my office at school (not from home) for those 10 hours a week so that I can help the admissions director answer the door and phone. They are thinking a Tue/Wed/Thur schedule for me to go in. So here it is Monday, and I have a long list of final grades to input and a list of AP and Dual Credit grades to input, and a list of final senior transcripts to prepare to mail out.....and I have to wait until tomorrow to go into the office and work on them. Then, each week they want me to submit what I did so that they can adjust the hours up or down depending on how many I actually need to work. They do not understand that the work is variable. A lot depends on what kind of emails and requests from teachers or principals or parents that I get. Some weeks may be more...some less. The less weeks I will fill in with immunization records, setting up files, filing, spreadsheet updating, ect. Ugh....I could easily work more than 10 hrs/week. The worse part is sitting here at home looking at the emails pile up and not following up on anything until tomorrow. It kills me!

I'm hoping the former student actually meant that he needed a copy of his transcript since it was for a college application, not a copy of his diploma. I have not yet had any colleges request a copy of a diploma..... I can easily print out his transcript.

Kids don’t get their stuff in in time? Oh well! They can call and scream at the principal. Do not work outside of your contracted hours. Let the whole thing fall apart without you. They will adjust real quick when either stuff isn’t getting done when they want it, or parents starts screaming at them. Do not give more than they are giving you.

Yup...I agree! and lol....crazy just sent me a proposed schedule for my 10 hours... Tues 9:30 to 12:30, Wed 9:30 to 12:30, and Thur 10-12 I replied that was not 10 hours....could I fill in the other 2 hrs with email responding ect from home and they say they want to start out at 8 hrs a week.....sigh.... I'm gonna work really, really, really, really slow......and I have informed the rest of the adm and principals that I will no longer be responding to emails except when I am in the office for those 8 hrs. Pricks..............

Ahhh...and now she is trying to put the blame on J......but J. says he suggested a 3/4/3 schedule. But crazy is trying to tell me that J. and her decided to go with the 3/3/2 schedule because "we don't have many students".... They are having a small class of summer camp at the school that J. will be there for. J. suggested the 3/4/3 schedule based on when he would need help with the phone and doors while he was helping with the campers. The things I will be in the office doing (other than helping with phone and doors) does not have anything to do with the campers so I don't see where she pulled that crap about the small number of students having anything to do with how many hours I needed to be there....and then trying to put the blame on J. for cutting me back 2 hours!

She gets away with this stuff because you guys let her.
“I’m sorry, I need a consistent number of hours on a consistent schedule and closer to the X hours I was hired for.”
“I will communicate directly with the parents on how to notify me when they’re here for the medications and I’ll tell them where to go. This doesn’t need another person involved. If you’d like to coordinate it, here are the medications.”
“That doesn’t work for me.”
If enough of you actually stood up to her, you might have a more manageable workplace.
