Thanks. I have looked at websites and am not finding much inspiration. I have to make a quilt block that has something to do with rout 66.

What about the teepee motel in Holbrook Az? I think it inspired the motel on Cars movies. I don't quilt, is the triangular teepee a clean shape to work with?

Go to Google Images and put in Rt. 66. Some nice pictures come up that may inspire you.

Can you do a corvette? La Posada hotel in Winslow. Also, anything with The Eagles standing on the corner on the corner in Winslow, AZ....a flatbread truck. Galaxy Diner in Flagstaff. I spend all my summers in Flagstaff and RT 66 goes right thru it. The teepee motel has already been mentioned.

I lived on Gravois (Rt 66) across from Grant's Farm in St. Louis... Clydesdale horses?? probably wouldn't work for a quilt.

I've been to the end on the Santa Monica pier. I'm not sure how complex of a design you're looking for and I know nothing about quilting, but you could do a pretty square with a sunset over the ocean or something.

All great ideas. My appliqué is not the best but I love the ideas. I was looking at the teepee motel and the pier. I had decided I couldn't do the pier but I like Ingrid's idea. For that. I will look at the other ideas for some pictures. Clydesdales are my favorite but probably too complex for me. Keep ideas coming. It needs to be simple enough I can do 13 before the dead line.

I just have to do one themed block. But I have to replicate it 13 times.

Pretty sure that was an autocorrect or typo, but it made me laugh thinking of a truck with the back being a giant piece of flatbread!

Historic Route 66 spanned many states. You could include each state in the quilt. Also, if you google Route 66 icons, quite a few interesting images come up. There's The Cactus Motel, The Wigwam Motel as well as other motel signs. There's the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and the Blue Whale in Oklahoma, the Twin Arrows in Arizona, The Cadillac Ranch in Texas. All of these icons would be pretty easy to replicate. You could also use an oil derrick, cactus, teepees, an indian headdress, a totem pole, etc.

Cool. I'm only 19 miles from there (I had to map it.) I have no idea what's the one thing to see in St Louis, since I've only been here a couple of months. I see signs for Historic Route 66 a lot.
