Great job!
I so need to do this. I generally only scrap at weekend crops too and I end up taking so much stuff. If I did some more pre-planning before the crop, I wouldn't need to take so much stuff.

Wait a minute....you're prepping these for a crop in May 2015? Why would you not spend that same time just going ahead and making the page? This is fascinating to me! Do you plan to actually make layouts before then? Tell us more. I go to two weekend crops with my sisters and cousins a year-- one has six of us, the other 12 or more. I just got back from one two weeks ago. I may or may not do a page here or there before then. I tend to be more productive when I go away for the weekend and just focus on scrapbooking. I used to crop at home all the time. Then three things happened. 1) I went back to work three years ago and that greatly cut into scrapbooking time. My kids are more active in school/ sports which occupies a lot of my nights and weekends, which cut even further into my scrapping time. Which resulted in 3) me giving up my large scrap space to my oldest to use as his bedroom and me being left with a much smaller space that I don't enjoy being in much and not as easy access to my stuff-- which was fine as I wasn't using the space much anymore and he needed his own room. I can pull together about 25 page kits in an hour because I have a system- so in four hours spread over 6 mos working here and there when I can carve free time, I can prepare 100 kits. I get in the "pulling supplies zone". I would never be able to be as productive making pages in that same time. I might get four pages put together and I just don't have the space to spread out and work on a page "when I can". When cropping at a weekend crop I can put 60-100 pages together from kits, it would take me YEARS trying to do that at home anymore. My creative juices get flowing, I get in a zone and I focus... Plus one cousin and I have a friendly competition that keeps me rolling. So for me, with my schedule and space prepping is best done at home, cropping at my weekend retreats. It's the system I find myself to be the most productive. As to why I am prepping so EARLY? I Just returned from our fall weekend and my creative juices are still flowing and I am wanting to be creative so I am taking advantage of that I struggle with how to put kits together..please share your system!!!!! Sounds Awesome.....

The first post addresses questions I've been asked. It's here 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/9657/ask-share-kit-processes

Wow! Impressive! What bags are you using for your kits? Ziplocks? Whatever I can get my hands on, lol. 2 gallon ziplocks, bags from scrapbook stores (one local store uses niiiice ones with heavy plastic and real zippers), 13x13 paper takers with buttons by Generation Scrapbook that I picked up some time ago 3/1.00- I bought a ton of these.

You're inspiring me. I love to play with paper but don't sit down and scrap as much as I should. Making kits would keep me happy and help me start when I have time

I went to a crop last night and today. I usually scrap 8.5x11 and get at least 30 done in this amount of time. But I started work on a 12x12 album and I was so slow with all that extra space. I got 22 layouts done in 12x12. I have forgotten how to work quickly on the larger area of 12x12. You forgot to work quickly? Girrrrrl I'd love to make 22 layouts at a overnight retreat!

I'm in school and work full time and it means practically no scrapping . It's killing me not having my create time. So I decided that I can put kits together to scrap later. I started using sketches about 2 yrs ago and have printed out tons- each in its own page protector. I pick my pictures then a sketch and then what I need and it goes into one of those plastic holders with the twist stringy thing on the front. It doesn't take very long and I've been able to make about 10 kits since school started. It helps me two-fold; It helps me relax before I hit the books and it satisfy my desire to create. Once I have a break probably thanksgiving- then I can make my pages and that goes quickly for me since I use a sketch.....

Wow! That's a lot of kits! I like to make up kits before a crop too, but I feel like if I make too many, I might miss out on embellishments for a page that I've already put in a kit and don't remember that I have (if that makes any sense!). Or maybe that's just my excuse for not making a lot of kits! Usually I concentrate on the paper and some specific embellishments and then do the finishing work when I get home. Even with kits made up, I never seem to be able to complete a page at a crop. Your kits look great!

I've been thinking about trying this but I wonder if I will be happy with what I had chosen to use. Part of my problem is that I am a big time scraplifter..I'm not creative, and so I usually pick similar items I see on a layout that I am lifting. Maybe I can try this with a print out of a sketch or layout.

Maybe I can try this with a print out of a sketch or layout. I only scraplift and I make kits for crops all the time. I just stick the sketch in the bag w/the papers, etc. that I put together. I'm like you and tend to overthink my choices. I found that if I plan it out ahead and have it packed in the bag, then I'm forced to go w/what I brought and I just get it done. I'm almost never unhappy w/what I end up with. Great kits, OP! I do something similar, but I'm always afraid that I may pack away ribbon, Thickers, etc. that I might also want to use on another page and I'll forget I have them because they're packed away. Because of this, I have a cover sheet for each layout that I plan. On it, I list the materials I'm planning on using (materials for the title, embellishments, journaling pens, stamps, embossing stuff, etc.) and then a few days before the crop I add them to the bag (I use these ) that I've already placed the sketch, cs & patterned paper in. I don't get nearly as much done at a crop as you do, but it helps me get a lot more done than I would if I didn't preplan!

That is awesome, I do the same thing for crops, mine is strictly because I am easily distracted. I enjoy being with my friends and I will get zero done if I haven't kitted up beforehand. I also like the process of kitting because I look more thoroughly through things and use up the less obvious and older supplies.

Sort of off this, if I want to consider the same embellishments in two kits I do one of two things: 1) I pack them in the same bag and stick a note in saying its two separate layouts. or 2) put embellishments in one bag w a note that they can be used in kit (name of event or moment). I also slip a note in that bag saying extra embellishments can be found in kit (name), so no matter which bag I pull first I get the memo.

And embarrassed for myself - I take a LONG time to gather the products I want to use on a page (an hour or so) and even longer to create a page (several hours). I'm not super productive but I find the process relaxing and therapeutic. Good for you all!

Oh, I love your kits! You make me miss my bestie that I would go to crops with! We used to go twice a year like you and we both planned like crazy and made kits like that we would do at the crop. We too had a friendly competition and would get 80+ pages done in a weekend. And I know what you mean about being pumped up after the crop to do more! It felt so good! Good luck at your next crop!
