I printed my pics up to date, and took the time to make kits with them. I will scrap these at the weekend crop I attend in May. This is how I usually prepare for a crop but this time will be with a twist. I will try to make 50 kits, using existing supplies and NO SHOPPING! if that goes well, I will continue with another 50. I have made 24 so far. Here is a picture of a few.

Wait a minute....you're prepping these for a crop in May 2015? Why would you not spend that same time just going ahead and making the page? This is fascinating to me! Do you plan to actually make layouts before then? Tell us more.

Wow! That's great kitting. I've made kits before, but either forgot about them or just went ahead and scrapped them instead of saving them for the crop I made them for. Great job using your stash & happy kit making!

If she's anything like me, it takes about five minutes to pull things together for the kit once you get going.... and an hour to finally put the project together. I don't think the time for making a kit vs. actually making the page is anywhere near the same. But go, tduby! It's lookin' great.

Wait a minute....you're prepping these for a crop in May 2015? Why would you not spend that same time just going ahead and making the page? This is fascinating to me! Do you plan to actually make layouts before then? Tell us more. I go to two weekend crops with my sisters and cousins a year-- one has six of us, the other 12 or more. I just got back from one two weeks ago. I may or may not do a page here or there before then. I tend to be more productive when I go away for the weekend and just focus on scrapbooking. I used to crop at home all the time. Then three things happened. 1) I went back to work three years ago and that greatly cut into scrapbooking time. My kids are more active in school/ sports which occupies a lot of my nights and weekends, which cut even further into my scrapping time. Which resulted in 3) me giving up my large scrap space to my oldest to use as his bedroom and me being left with a much smaller space that I don't enjoy being in much and not as easy access to my stuff-- which was fine as I wasn't using the space much anymore and he needed his own room. I can pull together about 25 page kits in an hour because I have a system- so in four hours spread over 6 mos working here and there when I can carve free time, I can prepare 100 kits. I get in the "pulling supplies zone". I would never be able to be as productive making pages in that same time. I might get four pages put together and I just don't have the space to spread out and work on a page "when I can". When cropping at a weekend crop I can put 60-100 pages together from kits, it would take me YEARS trying to do that at home anymore. My creative juices get flowing, I get in a zone and I focus... Plus one cousin and I have a friendly competition that keeps me rolling. So for me, with my schedule and space prepping is best done at home, cropping at my weekend retreats. It's the system I find myself to be the most productive. As to why I am prepping so EARLY? I Just returned from our fall weekend and my creative juices are still flowing and I am wanting to be creative so I am taking advantage of that

These have the pics added right in, so I better not forget about them I store them in my kit bag that I take to my crop-- actually I have three kit bags I take.

Wow! I get it! I would love to talk to you about a show I'm taping at some point about being productive at a crop! (for my podcast) Although you answered most of my questions - I'd love to pick your brain some more. I've always been fascinated by people who are highly productive at a crop 'cause I'm super slow no matter where I'm doing it. Thanks for answering!!

I am going to a 12 hour crop in two weeks. It is a two hour drive away. I have been kitting all day today. I have so many fun pictures to crop I love it. In between each kit I organize another part of my scrap room. I will probably have a dozen done in the next two weeks. I also crop a ton at home too.

I kit too but more in general terms. When I go to crops (only been to one long over the weekend one), mine are usually 12 hour ones, I take an event or a mini and then kit everything that goes with it and go to town. I average about 25-30 layouts in the 12 hours I am there depending on my journaling. Last time I did the zoo, my son's second birthday, and a few random ones because I needed some girly colors LOL! Good job!

I was never good at kitting. Maybe because I'm really not that creative. I either ended up just putting it all together, or changing my mind and having to re-evaluate (all) my supplies. That's why I'm much better at digi. It's easier to change things.
And tduby aren't you the one who did something like 65 pages a week or so ago? Really, I'm impressed.

I went to a crop last night and today. I usually scrap 8.5x11 and get at least 30 done in this amount of time. But I started work on a 12x12 album and I was so slow with all that extra space. I got 22 layouts done in 12x12. I have forgotten how to work quickly on the larger area of 12x12.

Do you primarily scrap single or double page LO's? I also scrap pretty much just 2 weekends per year and I think my best weekend was 34 LO's. I'm definitely more productive when I make kits ahead of time. I scrap primarily double LO's so it takes me longer to arrange two pages worth of pictures, probably because I use 6-10+ pictures on a layout (mix of small and large prints)!
I like your kit pics!

These are great kits! I wondered how you did all those pages in one weekend. Do you have sketches or an idea of how you will put the page together from the kits?
I like your method, because a lot of the creative work is done as you pull everything together. At the crop, you can relax and assemble the pages.

I like your method, because a lot of the creative work is done as you pull everything together. At the crop, you can relax and assemble the pages. Sometimes I add sketches/photo inspirations, but rarely anymore do I work from them. In fact, this round I have skipped the sketches/photos because at the last crop I only worked from two that I packed. I figure if I need inspiration my ipad is right there, I can find something online, in the moment.

As for digi scrapping I saw some gorgeous digi books of other guests at this last crop.

I do both but primarily double.... However I truly like my single page work/ kits better, so I tend to show those off. For me double pages are a necessary evil meant for events (birthdays, holidays, outings) and don't really showcase *my* style, as well. One page, single photos are of candid moments and that format leaves me plenty of room to showcase my style. i started scrapping when my oldest was 7. So I focused on double page catch up layouts for years- using photos that were never taken with the intention of scrapbooking and only having a handful of candid moment shots to work with for each kid- you know the one page/ one photo layouts. now I am caught up and never more than 6 mos of scrapping to do, so I can afford to watch for those moments, captur them and document them more. But I still primarily do two page layouts with multiple (4-6) photos.

Truly impressive tduby! I think I need to do this more, but on a scale that works for me. I don't go to crops and probably never will, but this would probably help me be more productive with the time I do have now, which isn't much. I think I'll try 5 at a time and see how that works for me. Thanks for the inspiration!

Yes, the idea of preparing and scrapping 50 kits in a weekend retreat is impressive. I usually prepare about 10 pages for a weekend crop, and usually get 5 or 6 done. Although I put the supplies together, getting them on the page in an arrangement I like is the real challenge. Most of my scrapping is done on the weekends (oops, that's what I should be doing right now), and I do good to get 2 pages done in a weekend (and when I say weekend, I mean about 4 hours between 6 p.m. Friday and 10 p.m. Sunday night -- because like all other working people, I have a ton of other things to do during the weekend as well).
