From WaPo:
Rep. Steve King said Wednesday that humanity might not exist if not for rape and incest, prompting the latest round of outrage at the Iowa Republican, who has a long history of making inflammatory remarks.
Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.), the third-ranking Republican in the House, responded to King’s comment by declaring, “It’s time for him to go.”
In a discussion at the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale, Iowa, King was defending his position against laws allowing abortion exceptions in cases of rape and incest.
“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?” King said, according to the Des Moines Register. “Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can’t say that I was not a part of a product of that.”
A spokesman for King did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the House member’s remarks.
In a tweet late Wednesday afternoon, Cheney called King’s comments “appalling and bizarre.”
“As I’ve said before, it’s time for him to go,” said Cheney, who is chair of the House Republican Conference. “The people of Iowa’s 4th Congressional District deserve better.”
In January, Cheney had called for King to “find another line of work” after the New York Times published an interview in which the lawmaker questioned how the terms “white nationalism” and “white supremacy” had become offensive.
King’s latest comment drew rebukes from both Republican and Democratic challengers in Iowa. J.D. Scholten, a Democrat who ran against King last year and is challenging him in 2020, said King’s remarks are “disrespectful to survivors and don’t reflect Iowan values.”
“Yet again, Steve King puts his selfish, hateful ideology above the needs of the people of Iowa’s 4th district,” Scholten said in a statement. “Excusing violence — in any way — is entirely unacceptable.”
Republican Randy Feenstra, an Iowa state senator who is waging a primary challenge against King, also condemned the lawmaker’s comments.
“I am 100% pro-life but Steve King’s bizarre comments and behavior diminish our message & damage our cause,” Feenstra said in a tweet. “Trump needs defenders in Congress, not distractions. I will ensure we win this seat & I’ll be an effective conservative leader in Congress.”
Others denouncing King’s remarks on Wednesday included Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), a Democratic presidential primary contender who called on King to resign, and Ilyse Hogue, president of the abortion rights group NARAL.
“Steve King — demonstrating there is NO bottom — defends his position that there should be no exceptions on abortion bans by suggesting that but for rape and incest, there would be no people left,” Hogue said on Twitter. “I’m really glad I do not live in his world.”
South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a Democratic presidential candidate, also criticized King’s remarks during a campaign stop in Tipton, Iowa.
“You would think it would be pretty easy to come out against rape and incest,” Buttigieg told reporters. “Then again, you’d think it’d be pretty easy to come out against white nationalism. So this is just one more example why there needs to be a sane representative in that district, and that’s why I think J.D. Scholten will be an excellent public servant for people of that district.”
King kicked off his bid for a 10th term in Congress in February by declining to apologize for repeatedly making offensive remarks. The previous month, House Republican leaders stripped King of his committee assignments after his comments to the New York Times. After the censure, King compared himself to Jesus.
Over the years, King has claimed that “our civilization” can’t be restored with “somebody else’s babies,” supported a Toronto mayoral candidate considered to be a white nationalist and met with a far-right Austrian group with historical Nazi ties. He has made a variety of remarks widely viewed as racist, anti-Semitic or insulting to minorities.

He has republican primary challengers and a strong democratic contender.
On another thread I said he should have a DNA test to see how pure a white aryan he really is...

He has had Republican primary challengers in the past as well, and the same Democratic contender as last time. Last time JD Scholten was pretty close to winning. Hopefully this time he can pull it off. My mom lives in King's district (and hates King). We were at a parade in May and when King rode by in the parade a guy in front of us flipped him off and said, "Fuck you!" Nobody cheered for King or stood up as he walked by. We took that as a good sign. Of course, it still doesn't mean that they won't vote for him just because he has an R behind his name.

Lots of people won't admit they think just like he does, and send him to Congress because he accurately represents their views. That's true in northwest Iowa and in parts of Texas and lots of other places where these true deplorables keep winning. My cousin's young daughter - in her early 20s - lives in southeast South Dakota, same basic demographics and political preferences as across the river in that part of Iowa. She's apparently trying to make it as a conservative blogger, and posted a long thing the other day about how people her age who complain about income inequality in the US are whiners who should be glad they're not living in a grass hut somewhere, and how we'd do better to bring all our aborted American babies into the world rather than allow in more immigrants. Early 20s! I'd say it's youthful hubris, but she's really just a product of her environment and folks around her who are old enough to know better - like most of my relatives in that area - all think the same way. I only saw her post because one distant cousin I hadn't unfollowed yet commented that it was "well said." Yep, unfollowed that one, too.

His district is one of the reddest, in Iowa’s bible belt, rural, anti-abortion, anti-immigration, pro-gun. As long as the farmers perceive he’s protecting their interests and has the same values they have, they’ll keep voting for him no matter how incendiary he is. One thing you’ll notice in articles about him in Iowa’s main newspaper, the words racist, nativist, white supremacist, anti-Semitic are never used.
And I’m not impressed by his own party’s criticisms of his remarks because if they really want him out, they could have done so a long time ago by voting him out of the Republican House Conference, a move they never made. Also, why are they livid about King’s rape and incest remark when they themselves support abortion bans that make no exceptions for victims of rape and incest? Why are they incensed about his white nativist / anti-immigration comments when they themselves think the same? They’re just embarrassed that Steve King has a big mouth and no brakes. That’s just simply hypocrisy. No one should be fooled that King’s values do not represent the party’s.

In 2012, a Missouri senator made a comment about how women very rarely become pregnant if they are legitimately raped. His bid for re-election was pretty much over that day. I know someone who worked for him who said the next day, she started looking for a new job because everyone knew he was toast.
Also, she said they had to close all of his offices in the state for a while because they were receiving death threats.
How far we have fallen... Not that death threats are ok because they aren't, but why is there no widespread outrage about this a$$hole?? Just another day of making America great.

And yet ... his district keeps sending him back to Congress ... This exactly is what keeps me up at night. Until the 2016 election I was proud to be an American. Now all I feel is shame and disgust. I was so damned naive for as old as I am. I had no idea how really, truly stupid and devoid of any moral compass that a huge chunk of the citizens of this country are.

My DH knew shit went down when I stated a couple months ago I’d take Dick Cheney any day over these idiots. Had a discussion the other day that quite obviously my own white privilege allowed me to stick my head in the sand, that I wasn’t naive enough to believe having our first black President somehow cured this country of all it’s ills. But I sure as fuck wasn’t prepared for my fellow citizens to hear and see Donald Trump and vote for him in 2016, let alone the absolute hatred that drips from his twitter feed and rallies after he was elected, and have them double down on supporting him. People have challenged my DH for feeling disgust with this country, can’t understand how a retired military guy can feel that way. He simply tells them who better to understand the shit show we have now than a military guy? If they want to keep arguing, he tells them to really take a second and think about his statement, then leaves the conversation. One of us has to be diplomatic, because I’m done coddling any Trump supporter in my life. If you support him, and tell me you listen to his words, read his twitter feed, are aware of the policies he’s enacted, then you are a racist. Your Christianity and supposedly saving the babies by having anyone with an R by their name isn’t going to save you from the label.

And yet ... his district keeps sending him back to Congress ... I am in 'his' district and I find him appalling. I am a middle of the road, middle aged farmer/stockman. I don't check all the boxes that his supporters do. I am pro choice (let me tell you, that earns NO friends around here). I am not anti-immigration. I think more channels need to be opened to allow people to enter the country legally. I am some what fiscally conservative, and I have NEVER voted for Steve King. But the top things I hear in support of King are immigration and Pro Life. People are desperately afraid of anyone who is of a different color or creed in these parts, although they will never admit it. The big dairies up north hire migrants and illegals, because they can't get enough help, but they also back King in a big way. They just sweep the entire "illegal" thing under the carpet, like it never happens. This Esquire article is a long one - but worth a read. The area up north is VERY conservative. Dutch Reformed, and they circle up tight. Esquire article on Northern Iowa DairiesLast time JD Scholten was pretty close to winning. Hopefully this time he can pull it off. He did come close. I knew the death knell on his campaign was when he had Bernie Sanders campaign for him. He might have gotten some votes from the old coots around here that really are tired and embarrassed of Steve King - but once Bernie entered the picture, all bets were off. Bernie is WAY to far left for these parts. I don't want to derail this thread, but Bernie could very well repeat his Steve King performance on a grander scale -- i.e. the entire Dem party -- if he gets the chance. He's WAY too far left for LOTS of parts.
