I have done this successfully before, but I didn't transfer the library over before updating the Silhouette to version 3 on the new laptop. It is obviously very different.
Has anyone done this, transferred a library from the Legacy version to the new version? I have 2800 files organized in folders. I really don't want to update the Legacy software on the desktop yet, but I want to transfer the library to the laptop, and it already has version 3.
Thanks to anyone who can help me!

I ended up uninstalling the newer software and reinstalling Legacy. Despite numerous attempts to copy the library, following directions given through Two Peas (which I had saved), it still is not showing up in the library on the new laptop. I posted on the Silhouette Plus forum, too. One person tried to help, but nothing seems to be working.
I remember I had issues copying the library to the old laptop, but I did succeed once I deleted the original library file instead of trying to replace/copy overtop it. Unfortunately, that hasn't worked with the new laptop. I have quit the software and reopened it. I have rebooted the computer. I can't figure out why it isn't working.

Scrapnana.....what computer are you using? I don't have the Silhouette so I'm not sure this will help......HOWEVER.....
On a Mac....set up both computers this way...you may be able to drag/drop folders from one computer to another.
CLICK: your desktop MENU BAR: File SCROLL/CLICK: New Finder Window CLICK: Left side of window: Air Drop
When you do that your current computer will appear within that window. Once you set it up on your other (receiving computer) will also appear
CLICK: your file from your old computer DRAG/DROP: onto the icon of your new computer
It will prompt you to share it. You need to respond on both computers. Then your items will be transferred at lease to the new computer. Now....to get them to where they need to be maybe look for an import window or try drag/drop into the same location that you took them from on the old computer.
I use AirDrop a lot and love it!!

I am using a Lenovo PC with i7.
I have no trouble finding, copying, or pasting the required files, but for some reason, the Silhouette does not acknowledge the files. The library still appears empty.
I have never heard of AirDrop before, but I think in this case, it won't help. It seems to be an issue with the software not recognizing the files or the change in the folder that got added.

I am thinking there is something with the new V3 that does not allow moving files like that (moving them into V3 that way).
I could be wrong, but I think I read that somewhere...
Hopefully you will like V3 and then you can update your other machine and move the library with the Export feature. In the meantime, you could just move over the ones you need to work on, by saving them onto a USB ("Save As") from the Studio program in V2 and opening them up in V3.

Iowgirl, I ended up uninstalling version 3 and reinstalling Legacy in the hope that I could transfer the library easily that way. Still doesn't work, and I am using the instructions for that process.
I do plan to update my laptop to version 3 again, basically doing what you said, just transferring certain files in the meantime, until I update both machines and do the library transfer through version 3's backup ability. At least I hope it will work.

I never could get the old style way of copying the library over. It would never work for me (Windows 7).

It worked for me once. It didn't at first, but eventually it did. I can't remember what finally worked that time, though. I am going from a Windows 7 PC to a Windows 8. Not sure if that makes a difference.
I may just have to upgrade the laptop again, then wait till I upgrade both computers to the new software. Then it should be a lot easier to copy over my library. For now, I will just copy a few favorite individual files that I have backed up through the "save as" feature and import them to the new computer so that I have something to work with for learning the differences in the software. I will obviously need to design a few things from scratch, too, to get fully familiar with version 3.
It just rankles to not have the full library on both computers.

I totally understand! If you have loads of fonts and need to copy them over - I was able to just make a copy of my system fonts folder, open that folder on my new computer - select all fonts, then click install and they were all installed in my new systems font folder. It was super easy. It's good to know I have that font folder backed now up also. I have a TON of fonts and I have purchased quite a few nice ones.

Thanks for the reminder. I haven't gotten around to copying and installing fonts to the new computer yet. I have purchased a few really nice commercial fonts, which I have backed up. I just haven't loaded them to the new laptop yet.
