You guys helped me last year when I was looking for a dress to wear to a wedding, so I am hoping you can help again. My brother is getting married October 19. The weather could still be nice, or it could be cold. I am short, so preferably the dress would come in petite sizing. I have looked online at loft, WHBM, amazon, Kohl's, Macy's, target, Maurice's. So far haven't found anything I like. Are there any other stores that carry petites that I am not thinking of? Do stores like Loft get new dresses for fall, or is what they have now going to be it? I don't really want anything strappy since it might be cold. And nothing is catching my eye right now. Any suggestions or links?

I purchased both mother of the bride dresses from Von Maur. My son was married Oct 15. I found a beautiful shawl to go with my dress and I needed it by evening. Von Maur does have petites.

Eshakti lets you customize your dress to your measurements. I just ordered yesterday for my own brother's wedding next month.

For special occasion dresses, I’ve had good luck at Dress Barn of all places. I wouldn’t usually shop there but it’s worth a look. They do petite sizes.

I think most stores carry petite sizes. Have you tried like Nordstroms, or just head over to the MOA one wkend.

I might have to go there if I don’t find anything else. So far I’ve found a few that I like that are online but I am not so sure about the websites, sizing and they are not petite.

Dilliard’s has a great selection of nice quality special occasion dresses and is not too expensive. They do have online shopping.

What about JC Penney? I’m pretty sure they have petite sizes too. My sisters and I have found special occasion dresses there in the past but I haven’t shopped for anything like that lately. Might be worth a look though.

Loft gets new inventory all the time. If you wait a couple weeks you'll probably see new dresses added. Check out Talbots. They often have dresses that would be great for a wedding. They carry petite sizes.

I’m 5’ 2” and Talbots or Coldwater Creek are my go-tos for dresses. I really need the proportions of petite sizes for a dress.

Those are the only stores in town that carry petites that I can think of. I've looked in store and online. I wouldn't describe all of the dresses as old ladyish, but in general a lot of what they carry for other clothes is. I really hate being short, especially when it comes to dress shopping. Ugh.

Just got one at Macy’s but I don’t know how to post pics. It’s black with rhinestones on shoulder and down the arm.

I am short and tend to skip the petite section and stick to short dresses. Any time the hem goes below my knee, I get it shortened. I have done this with three dresses now. Would that be an option?

You could drive over to Albertville?

I’d try Albertville, too. Often outlet stores will have completely different clothes than the mall stores. There’s a Loft, Talbot’s, Dress Barn, Ann Taylor’s, Banana Republic, New York and Company, and a Kate Spade. I’ve seen some really cute dresses in Kate Spade’s.

I would look at Nordstrom and Dillards. Nordstrom has free shipping and returns. When my daughter was getting married, I found my mother-of-the-bride dress at a bridal shop. Instead of buying the dress at the bridal shop, I ordered it from Dillards. The dress was about $200 less and it was delivered within a week.

Would you consider renting? I like using Rent the Runway for special occasions. I could buy a subpar dress I don't really like or rent a nicer one for the same cost. It's not for everyone, but I tend to not wear my special occasion dresses more than once or twice, so it makes financial sense for me.
I know they have discounts for first time renters as well. They let you rent two sizes of the same dress for the same cost. I just opt for ones with good reviews. And if neither dress fits, just let them know and they won't charge you. You just have to send the dresses back via UPS in the prepaid bag.

Eh, they are ok. I never order clothes from amazon, except for my scrubs. They have a lot of polyester in them, and super cheap, so that personally would worry me. But I hope it works out for you! Let us know!

I would normally agree with you and haven't bought many clothes from Amazon. But they all had a lot of reviews that were positive where people showed pics of them wearing them, which I appreciated. Some of the people were short as well so that helped me feel more confident that the length might work. I also typically only wear a dress once so really don't want to spend a lot if I don't have to. Last year my stepbrother got married and I bought a WHBM dress that someone here found. I loved it and was excited to wear it, and thought it would look good in the pics with other family members who were in the wedding party. Well, I didn't end up being in any formal family pics. I am still irritated with that for more reasons than the dress...but, anyway. If this wasn't the same side of the family as that wedding, I would just wear that dress again. As it stands, I will probably never have another occasion to wear it and it was $$$. I will probably keep looking unless one of the Amazon ones are great, but at least if one is decent I will know I have something.

Hell, I would wear the same dress. Do you really think they are going to remember what you wore at the last wedding? and esp since no pictures? If you spent money on it, and feel good in it. I'd wear it. Be Tiffany Haddish!! LOL! Do you remember what other's wore to the last wedding?
