All I need are some plain old black pants. Black jeans would be fine also, in fact that's what I mostly wear to school when I sub. At the hospital I wear ordinary black slacks. I do not have unusual requirements other than "black" and "pants". Is this too much to ask? I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to go to a department store such as Macy's, and I absolutely DETEST shopping in department stores. ugh. My favorite black jeans came from Costco so of course they don't sell them anymore. Why didn't I go back and buy six pairs once I discovered how well I like these? Last year I ordered a pair of black jeans from Amazon, the same ones as my Costco ones. I liked those but now they're too big (which I know is a good problem to have). So logically enough I thought "well I'll just order the same jeans in the next size down. So I went to my order history, clicked on the exact jeans, and ordered the next smaller size. When I tried them on they were way too small. So I sent them back and ordered the exact same size jeans as the ones that are now too big, thinking that maybe the sizing had changed. They arrived and indeed they are too big. wth? And they are MUCH too big, it's not like I'm *almost* in one size or the other...the one is much too large and the next one is much too small. sigh So then I went to Ross, Marshall's and TJMaxx (all right nearby each other not too far from me). Nothing. Aaargh! I might call up LLBean and chat with them because their customer service has always been stellar. Years ago I had a pair of their ordinary black pants that I'd bought in the LLBean outlet that used to be at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. Those lasted for YEARS as most LLBean products do. But sadly that outlet is gone. There is an LLBean store at a large mall in the next town over from me, but the thought of driving there is (Tyson's Corner, for you locals). I was hoping the customer service person might be able to suggest a size without me having to drive to try them on. Anyone have any other suggestions about where I could try? Black jeans and/or black slacks. ugh In my perfect life I'd work from home in my sweats or PJs. Sadly neither substitute teacher nor hospital chaplain can be done from home.

Have you checked Maurices? They usually have a few styles of black pants that are also comfy, as well as black jeans/jeggings.

Pants that fit well everywhere have always been the bane of my existence. What was the brand of pants you bought from Costco that you liked? I’ve noticed that there can be a pretty wide variation in sizing from one color to another of the exact same style and cut, and sometimes there can be a noticeable size and fit difference even within the same color and the same size. I would try ordering about four pairs at once, two of the old size and two of the new size and see if *any* of them fit, then return any that don’t. I like the Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans that Costco used to sell in the stores (and that are now mostly online only). I have a bunch of pairs of them, exact same color, exact same size and they fit differently. Some feel more relaxed and comfortable and others are what I call ‘busted can of biscuits’ LOL. Did I mention they are all the SAME SIZE? Oy. And the jeans that are black or any other colors I have to always order a size up because they definitely ARE smaller even though they are the same style but a different fiber content. It’s so bizarre. As a last resort, if you otherwise like the pants but they’re too big, take them somewhere and have them tailored to fit you exactly. It will be money well spent and will save you a ton of hassle trying to find some straight off the rack golden rainbow unicorn pants that don’t exist.

I second the Gloria Vanderbilt Amandas. I don’t know if Costco still sells them, but Kohl’s does albeit much more expensive. They have jeans and pants in the same fit ~ I agree that the jeans don’t always fit in the same sizes but I have a few pair of pants and love them. Classic Tapered Trouser is the specific name and they do have black.

If they end up not fitting, you can return them to the physical store.

Off to check that now!

If you have a Nordstrom Rack near you, they sometimes have good deals on jeans. If you go ahead and brave the mall, and are willing to try some on, go to Buckle. They sell quite a few different brands. The sales people at the one near me are fantastic, they know what brands work for different body types and will help you find ones that you will feel good in.

I really like the jeggungs at Walmart. They wear really well and don’t shrink when washed. But I wear a lot of longer shirts and sweaters.

I bought these for a trip to New York chaperoning band kids in March. They worked walking around and I could also dress them up enough for Carnegie Hall. They are very comfortable. I haven't worn them to work yet because I run warm and it's still super hot where I live. They will be my go-to pants in the winter though. HTF!
I can't get the link to work, but you can do a search for these on Amazon: Chic Classic Collection Women's Plus Size Knit Pull-on Pant

My Costco still sells the GV Amanda jeans but only in regular length and I need the short Keep checking back, they have their online clothing sale going on right now so they’re sold out of a bunch of sizes they usually stock. Every so often they do this thing where if you buy three clothing items you get an extra $3 off, 4 pieces = $6 off, 5 pieces = $9 off, 6 pieces = $12 off and 7-12 pieces = $15-30 off and they’re doing this now through the 26th. I’d check back after that when they restock with all the fall and winter stuff.

I will be different and suggest your local Goodwill, Salvation Army, or other thrift store. Believe it or not, you can usually find a large amount of different brands. Plus, in your area of NOVA , the resale shops usually have really good brands.
Several years ago was working at a job where we could wear jeans. So instead of running all over town I went to GW and tried lots of brands on and found a pair of Gap jeans that fit well and looked good. I bought them and then went to the Gap store and bought another pair just like them.

I wear these to work. They are not fancy, and are quite casual but... they are comfortable, they have pockets, they wash and dry well, no ironing, and they come in petite which saves me from having to hemming them.

I did that when I was pregnant and looking for maternity jeans. I couldn’t find any that fit anywhere and I was getting desperate. The thrift stores didn’t have any, but I switched to plan b which was to buy some regular jeans and convert them myself. I found a great pair of jeans that, other than not being maternity, fit perfectly everywhere else. I happily took them home, cut them up to add a stretchy panel in front and it worked out great. Once I didn’t need them anymore, I thought maybe I could find one or more pairs of that brand because they fit so nice. I Googled and Googled until my Googler was sore and those pants could not be found ANYWHERE, at any price. Not new, not used, not from the store they originally were sold at, not on eBay. I was so sad and wished I wouldn’t have cut them up, but at the time I was desperate for a decent looking pair of pants that would go over my baby belly! So while you might be able to find *one* pair of pants that are perfect and fit great going that route, I really wouldn’t count on being able to buy more of a particular cut or style after the fact.

I second this suggestion. I've worn these pants for years when I needed casual pants. They actually come in 4 styles. Slim, bootcut, straight leg and original. Original are the only style that have pockets. They are very comfortable. For subbing in a classroom where jeans are appropriate I think they would be perfect but a lot more comfortable than jeans. I know the exact LLBean store you are talking about-the Tyson's Corner location. When they closed the LLBean store in Columbia, MD. I drove to the Tyson's Corner location a couple of times from Annapolis, MD-it's about an hour away from me-but that beltway sucks! Your idea to call customer service is a good one if you don't want to make the trip to the store. If you do decide to go to the store I'd call first and see if they have these in stock at the store-they only have space for a few items, and they might not even stock these. I think if you give customer service your measurements they can guide you to the right size. Which style? I prefer the straight leg version. I think they look neater and I don't like the elastic waist on the original style. The other versions have flat waists that are also elastic but it is with a flat elastic-the original version has a gathered elastic waist.

And black fades so quickly. At Goodwill or used clothing stores it is difficult to find a black piece of clothing that isn't faded. I've shopped at Goodwill a lot but for a particular item it's like finding a needle in a haystack. When I go with an open mind of "let's see what they have" that's when I'll find things.

Also sucks, maybe worse since there are traffic lights. Rt. 50 to Rt. 7. Sucks worst of all because of Seven Corners. Basically there is no good way to get to Tysons Corner. I think I will call and talk to customer service.
