My mom, dh and I are heading out for dim sum. I'm so excited!
The last time we tried, we drove to Chinatown in Chicago, well over an hour drive. While the food was pretty good, the service was absolutely horrible. Completely ruined dh's first Dim Sum experience.
But, growing up I used to go to Chinatown with my mom and dad to a certain restaurant; it was the best. Unfortunately, their Chicago location burned down years ago and they never rebuilt. I knew they had a location in the SW Chicago suburbs, but (1) I thought they closed, and (2) never knew they served dim sum! Well I'll be--not only are they still open, they do Dim Sum on Sunday!
I'm so looking forward to giving it another try, at a restaurant we used to love; hopefully the food is still excellent.
Have you been to Dim Sum? What are some of your favorite dishes?

Oh gosh, I haven't been in many years. Now I want to go. I love the little bitty spring rolls snipped in half with scissors and squirted with sauce. Yum Yum Yum.
I'll try pretty much everything that goes by.

Oh yeah, those are good.
I think one of my favorites are the noodle crepes (I think that's what they are) that are filled with beef, or whatever, and they put some sauce on the plate to dip into it. I could eat a couple orders of those myself.
And I love the steamed bbq pork buns.

Mmmmmmm... steamed barbeque pork buns. I forgot about those. I always used to get those for lunch from the Chinese Students Club bake sales in college.

Not really dim sum per se, but when we go to Din Tai Fung, my favorite is pork and shrimp shumai. Yum!

Yes! We go for Dim Sum every other Sunday to a great place about six minutes from my house. They have a "cart" with the little steamer dishes and you choose. I like the little steamed ribs, fried tarro dumplings, steamed broccoli with some kind of delicious brown sauce, my favorite roast pork rice paste (pork rolled up in big soft noodles), steamed pork buns and a few other things I can't think of at the moment.

Pork buns! Yum. My parents used to take us to Dim Sum, I loved it. My husband does not like it, I don't know why. I'm going to have to grab my kids and go one day. My mouth is watering.

We love dim sum. DH surprised me by finding a place in San Diego for my first Mother's Day in CA and I think that 6 months was the longest time we have gone without eating dim sum. Favorites: - siu mai (shrimp & pork)
- har gow (shrimp)
- tripe (for DH only)
- steamed Chinese brocolli
- calamari
- sticky rice
- spare ribs
- chicken dumplings
- BBQ pork (ETA not the buns, just the meat)
We always go for dim sum when in Vancouver, but our favorite place there doesn't bring the carts of food around any more so you have to order off the menu which is not as much fun IMHO.

We go several times a month. Here in the east valley of Phoenix, we have three good ones nearby. Shumai and sticky rice are two of our favorites. The custard tarts for dessert are great especially if they are warm. Also love the calamari. I use to work in Singapore and we went to dim sum every Saturday. I've been lucky to try it all over the world.

WE've done Dim Sum when we've gone to San Franscisco and NYC. Both were excellent.
Because DH has an allergy to mushrooms and other fungi, as well as to many aging processes, eating with him at any Asian style restaurant is always nerve wracking. He did some research, though, and found a place in San Fran that had a reputation for being safe for people with allergies. We really enjoyed it.
I took DD and some friends to a Dim Sum place in Chinatown in NYC. We got there before the usual dinner time and were just a bit hesitant because there was no one else there. The staff gave us there full attention, though, and by the time we left, they had a line out the door.
We've been to one place in the Atlanta suburbs, but it was so hard to understand the servers I couldn't relax enough to enjoy the meal. I just knew DH was going to get ahold of something, but he didn't.
Oh, we enjoyed the steamed buns so much, I came home and learned how to make them. I already do pulled pork every so often for BBQ and carnets, so I just set some aside before I added any of the seasoning or sauces and I used it for the buns' filings. I think I used a homemade hoisin sauce on it. I couldn't believe how easy it was to make the dough and to wrap the buns. Next time, I need to add more sauce, though; they were not as juicy as I would have liked.

We go twice a month for Dim Sum. Some of the things we love:
Roast Duck noodle soup (thin noodles) or just an order of roast duck turnip cake steamed pork buns steamed rice noodles filled with pork spare ribs sticky rice chinese broccoli with oyster sauce
I'm allergic to shellfish so we have to be careful.

I have gone several times when I visit my brother in Houston. My brother's friend is Vietnamese and so he knows how to order for us. I don't know the names of anything we ate except for snails. I love them! I wish I knew a place to go here in Dallas but I'm clueless.
