Hello All! Hope you've been enjoying your weekend so far! I finished my first week of following a training plan for my next 1/2 and feel pretty good about it. Since it's four days of running instead of my usual three, I've decided to walk my Saturday easy miles. The plan calls for a 2-3 mile run, so my husband & I are having a walking date while we wait for our son in his Saturday morning class. Hopefully that will be easier on my legs than another run. Got 5 misty, cool miles in this morning & felt pretty solid. How's everyone doing - got any big plans coming up?

Only managed to get 4km of 5km done this morning, stomach put the brakes on going further. But, I am glad I got at least that far. There was also a pet walk at the park this morning, so I had to go visit the cute doggies.

I'm in North Carolina this weekend and getting lots of walking in visiting various parks. elaine how was your race? A found out a couple of my friends ran it too because they posted their pics on Instagram, so I guess some people did keep their phons during the race.

I've been hobbling around all week after my difficult hilly run. Apparently, it's the hills that kill my knees. I've walked that route many times, but first time running it. I'm going to attempt walking today, then probably stick with the elliptical for a few more days. I can't believe how much my knees hurt this week.

elaine how was your race? A found out a couple of my friends ran it too because they posted their pics on Instagram, so I guess some people did keep their phons during the race. What is the typical rule for phones, etc.? Are they usually not allowed? I haven't posted in about a week. My power walks have been going well. I changed my route this past week to go somewhere different. The only problem with this route is it is pretty much completely flat. I don't have big hills around me but my other route does have some smaller hills. I will probably go back to that route. The one I changed to though is a route I like when the weather looks a little iffy. I am never more than about a mile from my house if it were to start raining where I needed to get home. My other route, I am sometimes over 2 miles from home. OK, which one of you talked about using vaseline on your toes? I used it all week last week and it was awesome! I didn't use any other padding like mole foam or anything similar to prevent blisters and I didn't get a single blister all week. Thanks for that tip!! Back at it tomorrow. However, I might have to stick to the elliptical tomorrow and get back outside on Tuesday. We have a 100% chance of rain with winds 25-35 mph. I won't be walking outside in that. I might try to go to the gym in the morning and get back into my Monday Kickboxing class. I think my ankles and feet are healed enough for this.

How many states have you hit so far?

eebud - glad the Vaseline helped your tootsies - and it is cheaper than moleskin, by far. Since your area lacks hills, what about steps? Can you go up and down steps somewhere? Or even step up and down off a bench? Your tush and hamstrings will not thank you at first, so don't overdo it.

I did 4 yesterday and probably will do at least 5 today. Normally I don't run two days in a row but I'm doing the fitbit weekend challenge with some family members and need to step up my game!

If I go back to my other route, I will have some hills. they are not steep hills but there are some. The route that keeps me closer to home does have one place where I could go up and down some stairs. There is a park that I do a couple of laps around and this park has a covered picnic area that you have to go up about 15 steps to get to. I could go up and down those a few times. Maybe each time I do a lap and am by the picnic area, I could go up and down them then continue on.

Elaine, I tried your walk/run method and had a personal best this morning both for speed and distance. I did a whole 5K route (not a race, just a route I had mapped out) for the very first time and averaged a 14 minute mile pace. I did one minute runs and minute and a half walks. Woo hoo!

Yoki , I'm glad you had a nice run this morning! Merge , yay! Isn't amazing how much farther and faster you can go when you run-walk-run? It is very empowering too, because you realize that you really CAN run this way. annabella , I thought of you a few times on the course today. You would have enjoyed it. eebud , phones are allowed at every race but this one - although they didn't enforce it, so I could have brought mine. It is more common to ask that people not wear earbuds and listen to music during a race, because they want people to hear race instructions, etc. I try to avoid those, because music helps me keep going. I'm home from the Army 10 Miler. The day was beautiful - sunny and cool. Tons of people had their phones, so I shouldn't have worried. Plenty also wore headphones and listened to music, which I wish that I had done, as this was the most sparsely cheered race I have run. Not much in the way of course entertainment either. Music on my phone would have been a help. As it was, this certainly wasn't a PR - I walked the 9th mile - but ran the rest. The people were fantastic though. The runners did a great job of cheering each other on - there was a middle-aged Army guy running near me who was begging people to drop and do push-ups with him, shouted out jokes, etc. Kymberlee , how was your run? The pasta dinner sounds like it was a lot of fun. I got so much Army swag at the Expo, that Dh would have developed a complex if we had more Army stuff around the house than Navy. I did wear a Navy shirt to run in today. I changed into my ATM shirt after I got home. I'm pooped! I bought this off of eBay before I realized the coins we were getting were Pentagon shaped. But in the end, it works perfectly- the sides grasp the top three points perfectly. No need to try to drill the coin or anything.

(NC, GA, FL, TN, SC, VA, TX, OR, & MI.) 2015 will check off LA & CA for sure - hoping to get one or two more in somewhere. annabella - where in NC were you? elaine - glad you had a good race!

I am laying on the couch right now watching the 'Skins blow it, and I am too exhausted to get up and get ice for my aches and pains. My ankles and feet are killing me for some reason. The race went well for me except I missed my goal by 2 minutes. I was pretty disappointed in that, but the last mile running up the off ramps to get back to the Pentagon was brutal! I was so happy with the weather and the course was nice. Super crowded but it never got too tight to run. I got tons of photos that I will upload later. Can't seem to pry myself off the couch right now, though. We hit Sine in Pentagon City after the race with friends, and I stuffed myself on beers and a fat burger. Maybe that's the reason I feel like poo. I like the the coin holder. It looks like it is rubber? I should order it. I found a few online but since the coin is a pentagon, it makes it hard to use the round holder. :-) The RWB dinner was fantastic. It is such a great organization and not Army-centric at all. Their mission is very focused on reaching out to veterans through community and physical activity. The idea is to help provide support to veterans returning from war that were at risk for suicide, PTSD, and all the other myriad of issues our veterans suffer from. It was started about 5 years ago by two West Pointers and is 55,000 members strong. Truly inspiring to me.

Kymberlee - great job! I say that two minutes is close enough! (I'm only kind of kidding. I'm hoping to break 2:20 in my next race, which will be a PR by one minute & 22 seconds. I'll be annoyed if I miss it!) eebud - I'm doing the Louisiana Half which is in Baton Rouge. I hear it's a beautiful, well supported & most importantly after my last four races FLAT course.

sbartist - I'll keep that one in mind! I'd love to find a HI race that coincides with my son's spring break so he could come with us, but I haven't found one yet. The one you mentioned might be close, depending on when Easter falls any given year. Our trip to CA is going to be expensive, so I've got to travel a little cheaper for any other races next year. I'd like to do Philly in the fall and maybe Chicago. We'll see what happens, I guess.

I got home by 12:30 to find all the males in my house growsing at one another. We went to see "Alexander's Very Bad Day" and I surprisingly stayed awake and had popcorn WITH butter with no guilt. We then went grocery shopping- woo-hoo! I'm fairly achy too. More bruised toenails. At least Walking Dead premiered tonight - it was an awesome diversion! The coin holder is a clear rubber - it is flexible. I kind of like having it on the dogtag ball chain. It kind of fits for the Army.

Popcorn WITH butter??? Oh my. That is why I love to run…eating without guilt. Here are some of the pictures from yesterday. It was a fun day and so inspiring. If anyone ever gets a chance to run the Army 10 Miler, I recommend it highly. It is super crowded, but you get to run with 34,999 of your closest friends. The course is nice and the support is great. Oh, and there a lots and lots of men in uniform. Hooah! :-) Team RWB. Tons of fun running with all these Eagles. We were everywhere on the course. This is my wave alone. I think each wave was over 3,000 people. ![]() Me and my cute hubbie who held all my stuff and waited for me at the finish line and my running buddy who finished super fast. She kicks ass (including mine).
