Has anyone tried one of these? My friend uses it every morning. She said she does 300 rotations with her hands down and 300 rotations with her hands up. I am intrigued, but don't want to spend $25 on something I can't do. I guess with the weights it is something I will have to work my way into for a longer duration. I will say my friend looks amazing and she is 60.

I know right?? My girlfriend has a gorgeous body for 60 years old. She said when she was in high school she loved to hoola hoop and now does it 5 mornings a week with the weighted one.

I have one. To be honest, I haven't used it in a couple of years. But, I will say, start slow. I had so much fun with it, that I didn't realize how banged up my body was getting. It took weeks for the soreness to go away. All over. I kept at it for quite awhile, though.

According to mayoclinic.org, heavier hula hoops are easier to keep in motion than lighter ones:

When you say hands down and up, is she still doing the rotations around the waist, but puts her hands either up or down or does she rotate it arm her arms in some fashion? TIA.

I forgot I had one. I got it at Aldis. I never used it. Off to look at the video Mary Kay Lady posted.

They’re fun, and they work muscles you may have never known you had. But if you have back issues, start *very* slowly, a little bit a day until you see if it aggravates any existing problems.

I have one and it cost a lot of money. Used it for a few months and went to a few classes. I got pretty good at it but oh the bruising at the beginning. You do get used to it, but I was black and blue and very tender for a few weeks.

I bought one years ago, they were selling them for $25 at that women’s only gym Curves. They are horrible! It just falls down and bruises your ankles! I sold mine on eBay. I can’t recommend it at all. It was a bad purchase!

It looks so easy when she does it. But then I remember who I am and doubt my ability.

She still does the rotations but half are with her hands up in the air above her head and the other half are with her hands probably near her waist. I did read about the bruising as well. She bought hers on Amazon. I might see if they have them at Dicks and try them out first. On Amazon they are about $25.

I bought one in a charity shop for £2, it was easy to use and I could do 15/20 minutes at a time but my god the bruises were appalling. I gave it back to the charity shop in the end as it was just too painful for me.

I used mine pretty regularly for about six months, but could not get past the bruising. I was always black and blue around the waist, so I gave it up.

OMG. You had me up until the bruising. Why in the world would someone subject themselves to exercise that causes regular bruising? I bruise easily and can’t imagine what I’d look like.

I bought 2-one for the waist and a smaller one to use on my arms. I never had any problem with bruising because I was never able to keep it going. I failed the hula hoop.

I bruise easily too, I bet I would look I was wearing a purple or black belt if I hula hooped with a weighted hula hoop. Too bad, because it sounds fun.

I have one, and I suck at it. How can something that was so easy as a child be so hard now?! I can't keep the thing on my waist! It's really fun to do though, and quite a good core work out.

I bruise easily and did when I first started using it. With regular use I quit bruising.
I found mine at Marshall’s or TJMaxx

I never heard of this before!! I’ve been doing a lot of working out but skip most core things because my PT said I shouldn’t do sit ups or related exercises due to a back issue I have. This could be great for me. I’ve been looking at hoops on amazon and the reviews are mixed. Does anyone have one they like?

I guess it is an incentive to keep going with using it regularly but it’s a big disincentive to not go back to it after a break - that’s where I am. I used to stuff folded up T-shirts down my yoga pants!

I find the weighted ones way easier to keep up than the regular cheapies we had as a kid.
I don't bruise easily, but everyday for the first few weeks I was sure I was going to have a purple and black belt. After a few weeks that feeling was gone.
