Just found out that a former student of mine passed on Friday. He was in my HS special ed class. He had a few mental health diagnoses. He was SO smart but so full of anger. Broke my heart when he dropped out and did not return for his senior year. Today I am just so sad.. Pretty sure--but not positive---it was an OD.

I’ve had a few students die young. It’s so sad. I’ll always remember them as they were.

He and I would always chat about the NFL...he loved the Steelers and I love the Bills. So sad...

One of the things that I've said is hard about teaching is that we know too many people. I've had several students who have died over the years and it's so depressing. I knew them well when they were 10 and it seems unfair that they didn't get to be old. I'm sorry your student was struggling.

One of my boys passed away in 11th grade. His mom ended up being one of my nurses for my surgery several years later and we just cried together as I told her some of my favorite stories about him as a ten year old. |
