I ordered a dryer from Home Depot. The delivery window was today 10am-2pm. It's 4:22pm. Dh had called the number and it says that the delivery is delayed but still set to be delivered today. I'm supposed to be picking up my dd's at 5pm and running a short errand with them. In town errand and I'd be home 20 mins after picking them up. Delivery says someone 18yo has to be here at the time of delivery. I've been thinking of leaving ds,16yo, here to let them in. I'm just trying to decide my odds. LOL Do I pick the girls up and run the errand with the odds are that they're not going to show up at all today? Or do I make ds pick up the girls and skip the errand? Typically I'd just send ds to pick them up AND do the errand. But there are storms rolling through and I'd rather not have him on the road for extra time during the storms. In your experience, do they show up with my dryer? Or do I get it another day? Thanks for humoring me while I make this very important life changing decision.

Does DS feel comfortable being there? Could he pass for 18? If so, I would leave him unless they are installing it.
We just got a new fridge a few weeks ago and they showed up an hour early. Fortunately we were home at the time. I know things come up, but it seems like with such a big window they could manage to be within that time frame.
Very frustrating.

It's definitely frustrating but it would be much more so if I didn't have a dryer that worked. My timer broke seems along with it the ability to adjust the heat setting. I can still use it but it seems like it's running hot. Makes me nervous, hence, the new one. LOL We're also supposed to get a phone call 30 mins before delivery. Still haven't received that. And in the past, we're lucky to get any type of call. DS probably would do it but he definitely cannot pass for 18. LOL

If he says he is 18, are they going to ask for ID or give him guff?

I'd send him and stay home. Then when they don't show up, I'd be even madder.

I'd send him and stay home. I'd be afraid something would come up with the installation and he wouldn't know what to do.

If there was some issue with it and it should have been refused, you might be SOL if he was the one there and didn't know for sure what to do. Separately, I'd be seriously *PO'ed* that they didn't even call during the delivery window to let you know what was going on. I'd almost be tempted to call and cancel for today and reschedule.

Well it was all for naught.
There aren't enough cuss words to cover my anger. Even though our order showed our physical address, it also showed our POBox. And because of that it was rejected as undeliverable. And now it's on freaking backorder until OCTOBER!!!!!!!

I'm angry for you!
Years ago, I was embarrassingly brought to tears while waiting for a refrigerator at our newly built home. I had two toddlers in an empty house all day long. Our phone hadn't been hooked up and I didn't have a cell.
Went to my new neighbor's to borrow their phone and broke down from the frustration. Nice to meet you, I cry over appliances!

Cancel and try another company. Our locally owned appliance/tv store matches big box store prices - generally. They also provide customer service and work on all they sell. We have been burned a couple of times and I appreciate a well run company.

Not even a phone call?!? I'd be pissed, too!!

When they realized their mistake, why didn't they come to your house? Am I reading this right? I'm sure you talked to someone at Home Depot. Did you not insist they follow through with delivery? I ordered a stove this year from them and I had no trouble. I can't believe they wouldn't try to make it right. Someone would be getting an earful -probably several people until I got to someone who could help me. Very frustrating!

They didn't even actually attempt to deliver it, if I understood my dh correctly. They loaded it on the truck but when they saw a po box listed, they rejected it. Dh did get through to the delivery company and he asked the c/s person if she saw the physical address and she said yes. When dh questioned why it wasn't delivered to that address, she had no answer. That makes it even more infuriating. While he understood it wasn't her fault, he read her the riot act. Not that it got us anything. Ugh.

brandy327 Call them back- that's incompetence at its worst!!! I know! The funny thing is, we've ordered several appliances from them previously and have NEVER had this happen. We ordered a new refrigerator less than 2 years ago and it showed up on the day it was supposed to!

I'm confused. How can it go from being rejected to back ordered in a matter of a few hours? If they had it there and it's been paid for, it can't simply go back into inventory without a call to the consumer.

My dh asked why they couldn't just bring the one on the truck back here and was told that once delivery is rejected, it goes back to the manufacturer. One would think it would be an easy fix - just deliver the one on the truck meant for us on another day. But apparently that's not the way it is.

That’s just ridiculous. I’d bet money that it was never in stock to begin with and the address is the excuse they are using. You know they had your physical address and phone number. Yeah, I’d be that person.

Nope. Nope. Nope.
I'd be all up in there business. They made a mistake and now need to fix it. And not in October.

We have been burned a couple of times and I appreciate a well run company. Exactly this. We’ve learned over time that it’s never worth the hassle to buy stuff like this from a box store unless we’re wheeling it out of the store ourselves, loading it on our own truck and installing it ourselves. Otherwise it NEVER seems to end well. Luckily we have a couple locally owned places that we can get what we need at a competitive price.

One would think it would be an easy fix - just deliver the one on the truck meant for us on another day. But apparently that's not the way it is. Ohhh. I would be furious too! That’s ridiculous. Especially after you wasted the day waiting and they didn’t notify you they weren’t coming or had a problem with the address. Why didn’t they call? Did you lose time from work? They should not have sent it back without making contact with you. Especially since they knew you were awaiting delivery. I think I might know the answer to this question since we were talking to our local small town family owned appliance store guy this weekend about a fridge. He mentioned that given the tariffs and fact that most appliances are made in China or rely on parts from China, they’re in very short supply and taking longer to import. He mentioned that all stores in an area (such as a state or region) draw from the same pool of available appliances and he could look up exactly how many were available in the state and where they were located either in a competitor store or the warehouse. He mentioned that if a sought after appliance becomes available, it’s usually snapped up immediately. I bet that’s what happened when your delivery guys cancelled the delivery and put the item back into inventory-it was assigned to someone else and now it will take a long time to either get another from a more distant warehouse or wait for imports to clear customs. Really rotten. FWIW - When I had furniture coming and the delivery was moved up to a time before I could get home and only my 16 yo was home I ended up calling a neighbor to run over to our house and sign for it.

I am so sorry and frustrated for you! We moved into a new house a month ago and promptly bought couches from Ashely Furniture (2 for our basement and 2 for our upstairs living room). We are not replacing furniture - we don't have anywhere to sit. Of course, they only deliver to our small town once a week so we have waited a month for our couches. Now we find out that our basement ones will be delivered today, but the other ones are on backorder for October. BLEH! Why couldn't they have told us that a month ago when we ordered them???
