Sad Update on Pops (fraud story I shared last year)

Pops passed away Tuesday night. He's been under Hospice care since the last week of July. He was still holding pretty strong for the first couple of weeks, but then had a stroke and faded quickly. The last two weeks he was in and out of consciousness, and it seemed he was locked in a constant nightmare that was all in Vietnam. He'd scream for help in the middle of the night and couldn't be consoled, he was yelling about gunfire, holding the area, 'don't go in there boys!'...it was awful. Just awful. Then on Sunday he was mostly calm, he woke up and spoke a little, you could see recognition in his eyes. I told him I loved him and he told me he loved me more. I told him it was ok to rest, I'd take care of the kids and he said 'ok then' and went back to sleep. This was after he asked me for a hug. I'm so glad I was there at the exact time I was so I had that moment.

One of the younger grandkids aged out of foster care (she has not been mentioned in this story until now because she wasn't around) and came to stay with her siblings and Pops here until she goes to basic training later this month. I'd only met her a handful of times until she came to stay, but she came up to me and said "ms genny, can you do something for me?" I said of course, anything you need. She said, "will you hug me like you're my mama for just a minute please?" Of course I did. And I cried even more for these precious young adults who have had no mother to love them and guide them. 

My heart is broken at the loss of a man I only knew a short time, but he added so much to my already full life. I'm grateful I got the chance to love him.

Thanks for following his story. I hope one day I will be able to update with the news that somebody's sorry ass is in jail.
