Awaiting a call back to schedule an ASAP root canal. I’m in pain with an infected tooth and cannot wait to have the root canal. Isn’t that crazy? After that is completed I have to return for a cavity and a deep gum cleaning.
Not fun at all.

I've had three and only dreaded the first one. After that, I knew what to expect and was glad to get it done.
I hope you are pain free soon!

There is nothing worse than a bad toothache. I had a bad toothache recently and was told I needed a root canal. As soon as I started taking antibiotics the pain went away. I had the root canal about a week later.
The root canal honestly wasn't much worse than getting a cavity filled. I went to an endodontist my dentist recommended and I didn't feel any pain during the procedure, just a little bit of pressure. I took two tylenols as soon as I got home, because the numbing medication was wearing off and my mouth was starting to hurt. The tylenol took care of the pain and I didn't have to take any more after the initial dose.
I hope it goes smoothly for you.

I need to get one done in the not too distant future. I also might need an extraction but my neurologist won't sign off on it until he sees me in person later this month. I just want it all done. All I'm dreading is the amount of time having to keep my mouth open.

After that is completed I have to return for a cavity and a deep gum cleaning. Not fun at all. When I had an infection the dentist wouldn't do the root canal until it cleared up so I was on antibiotics for a few weeks first. I had never had a root canal before and dreaded it but like auntkelly said, they have come a long way and aren't that bad.

I started an antibiotic yesterday. Ever six hours I take the antibiotic, one Tylenol and four ibuprofen. Hoping it is much better by tonight.
My past root canal didn’t hurt. Keeping my mouth open for so long hurts! Too, I have a small mouth and that doesn’t help.

yup, I dreaded it lots more than I really needed to. And like someone else said, keeping my mouth open for that long was just as bad, if not worse. I seem to remember my dentist giving me a couple breaks in there where I could rest my jaw. I had to have the root canal redone a few years later, because one of the roots wasn't all the way removed the first time, the tooth got cracked, and the remaining root got infected. Because *most* of the root was gone it just felt "weird" there, instead of feeling actual pain-- so the infection was kinda bad. So if you have 'weird' sensations in that area years later, don't ignore them!
I finally had that molar extracted and am mostly through the process of getting an implant in its place- I can't wait to chew gum properly again, lol.

I was in too much pain before my first one to have time to dread it--that and I had it the same day I found out I needed one. My dentist referred me to a guy that only does root canals which made it easier to get in right away. He did my second one about a year later too, neither one was had any issues and I was happy to be done with the pain.

What amazed me was the dentist saved the crown on the tooth where I had the root canal! He went through the crown and didn't crack it ~ saved me a bunch of money!

I went to an endodontist for my root canal. My jaw gets very sore when holding my mouth open so I was very scared about being able to tolerate that pain. The endodontist had something to rest my mouth open on and was ok. In and out within 45 minutes. I told him, "you better work fast to make this work." Hee hee. He did too. It was a little scary having all those things in my mouth, almost claustrophobic feeling but I relaxed my breathing and closed my eyes. Tooth pain is the worst! Hope you're taken care of soon so you have relief.
