I just hate to see these on here and on FB. Why do people have to post this stuff? I know life is not a bowl of cherries, but I go online for light hearted stuff, not to read about animals being killed.

I agree. I especially hate it when there is either: 1. Details in the subject line. Eww! 2. Vague title so when I open the thread I read about something I would really rather not.
I still have thoughts from the thread about the dead cat after opening it. I made the mistake of skimming the rest of the posts and really wish I could unread the little bit of stuff I saw.

OMG!! Amen!! esp here and FB. I hear enough on the news, and radio and everything. I have a friend that posts like 10 lost dog/cat posts a day on FB. It's just SAD!!! I just have to go thru and hide ea one. Esp because I live no where close to her!

I agree 100%. Anything to do with either children or animals being mistreated, etc. and I can't deal with it.

While I totally agree that I don't enjoy seeing that stuff, I remind myself that I don't make the rules of what someone can or cannot post. I realize that the internet is full of all kinds of things, and by reading public forums, I take the risk of seeing something that I personally wouldn't post or something that I don't like to read. So, I scroll or click back. It really is that simple!

Exactly Sharla!!! Samcro..that is easy enough to do, and that is what I do..but it gets old to hide like 10 things a day about animals.

I totally wish we had the hide this thread option on here! so we didn't have to scroll past thread titles. Sometimes ya just can't scroll past it..you want to read what's next..and then it's still there.

Yes, I can scroll or click past, but it is still something I wish I hadn't seen, even just a title. My life has enough sadness without adding to it. If someone continually posts that sort of thing in my FB feed, they will get hidden, or unfriended. Here, nothing I can do about it, so I just have to deal, but I am free to wish that people would do otherwise.

doesnt bother me... i know better than to go online and expect to see "light hearted" stuff
I dont post them but countless animals have been saved by Facebook networking. If you dont like it just ignore it or unfriend the person.

I hate it too! There was once a bunny thread on here and the op out in the thread title "not sad" or " no one was hurt" or something like that, but a couple people responded with horrible stories that made me sick to my stomach. I know people can post what they want, but maybe instead of a thread saying "someone killed my cat on our front porch" they could just post "my cat, warning SAD" or something. When the post is going to be graphic in a sexual way people often include TMI in the subject title without going into all the gory details until the actual thread, I don't see why this is any different. It is just a matter or respect.

You know, there is lots of shit on the internet I don't like. But I don't think that I'm special enough that I get to tell other people what they can and can't post. And I'm definitely not passive-aggressive enough to start thinly veiled callout threads trying to take digs at people instead of just saying what I want to say to that person directly.
What the hell do you do when you watch the news? Or read about all the other death and destruction that's posted here? War, ebola, sickos putting needles in apples, murder, rape, and child molestation that gets talked about everywhere?
If you are so delicate that you can't handle mentions of things that are in the news and all over the internet, then for fuck's sake, take yourself offline and surround yourself with nothing but happy shit.
I fucking hate the vent threads, the dumb as shit NASCAR threads, and lots of other stuff that's posted, but I just scroll on by and read what appeals to me. It's not that hard.

No one said they were too delicate. We are just saying it's a lot! Like you said, it's on the news, its in the paper, it's on the talk shows, it's on the radio, it's online. Just wish my FB page was less...that. The vent threads and "dumb as shit Nascar threads" aren't cruel, painful or sad. I think we are just given so much sadness all day, that sometimes people just say enough. Trust me..I also work surrounded by sadness. SO maybe I just have enough by the time I get home?

I don't imagine people read here or Facebook for the news, so not really an apt comparison. And no one is saying people can't post what ever they like, but maybe on a general message board they could have some courtesy and post a warning in their thread titles instead of giving all the gory details. Not a big deal, and really not out of line as far as requests go. I also think it is not out of line to just post a general and gentle reminder to the masses as these kinds of threads have been popping up with some regularity lately. It is easy to skip over the Nascar threads and other threads you don't like, but some thread titles are so graphic you can't help but have mental images of them, and when it involves animal tragedy it is upsetting in a different way than the mental image of a Nascar race. It's not hard to speak respectfully to people who have been nothing but respectful themselves. No need to be so over the top rude and combative.

The "Someone killed a kitty" title last week made it sound like a murder. I never did open that thread to see, but the title made it sound like a CSI episode.

Good grief, I am guessing that was my post... Didn't realize it was against the rules. I thought this place was to share good, bad and the ugly. I hate political posts, so can we stop posting about that? I can't stand religious fighting posts, can we stop posting about that as well?
Edited to add.. When I posted "killed a kitty" I figure that was pretty clear.. if people don't want to hear about the poor dead kitty, then don't open.

It wasn't just your post, it was coupled with the one about the dead flamingoes. And I never said you couldn't post about it (like I have any power), I just asked if it upset anyone else. This is coming from someone who couldn't watch Lassie because it always upset me when something happened to him.
And as far as the news goes, when I see an upcoming story about an animal, I change the channel. I have no problem with the lost pet posts on FB and I know that something good comes from it, but when I see an awful picture of an abused animal with a "Share if you're against animal abuse" it just makes me shudder.

I did open it because I expected one thing -- and thought I'd post I was sorry you had to deal with something like that.

So, you're so sweet and delicate that you can't watch Lassie (whose character was a girl, btw), yet you're making off-your-meds cracks at people?

The thread title paints a mental picture that is hard to unsee. You could have just said, "Kitty story, SAD" or " Kitty story, Warning, Graphic". That is all anyone is asking.

It rips my heart out too, but I wish we were as crushed, enraged and moved to do something about all of the children (people in general) who are living in poverty, abused, hungry, etc. I think many of us are just desensitized to human suffering to a certain extent, yet lose our minds when it comes to animals.
I'll be the first to admit that while I don't like to see the commercials for Save the Children and similar organizations, I can't bear to even hear the damn music from the ASPCA commercials and change the station immediately.
Every night on the news, there is coverage of people in war torn countries and I know that I sometimes don't even give it a second glance, but there was a local story on the other night abut a dog fighting ring in our area and I was furious.
This doesn't make our feelings regarding the OP topic wrong, it's just sad that we've been desensitized a bit towards human suffering.

The over the top post was a lot more than just one cuss word, it was a ranting, over the top repsonse to someone's polite request. It also brought up a lot of stuff that had nothing to do with the topic at hand.

It also brought up a lot of stuff that had nothing to do with the topic at hand. You can think my post was over the top if you want. I brought up threads that I hate because that's what the OP did-not off topic at all. I also think I'm not so special and delicate that the rest of the internet has to follow my wishes as to what is posted online. There's nothing polite about a public passive-aggressive call-out thread. If she had a problem with a certain post title, all she had to do was PM the person she has the issue with and make a polite request to change the title. But she didn't even mention the title in her OP. Just that people shouldn't be posting sad stuff. It was just a dog whistle for a pile on. And if you think that one fuck, shit, or damn is the equivalent or worse than her little meds remark, then that tells me a lot about you, too.
