Holy shit. I’ve been taking ranitidine daily for 15 years, because it helps my allergy meds control my chronic hives. I’m not aware that there was any danger associated with this. My doctors have always said it was nbd. My husband takes daily it for chronic hives as well. IIRC the article I read yesterday mentioned the amount they found was something like 7 times higher than the amount in the blood pressure medications the FDA previously recalled for the same substance. His pharmacist recommended Pepcid, which he’ll try until he can speak with his doctor. Does anyone have any experience taking Pepcid daily, or for chronic hives? Theoretically it should work, because it's an H-2 blocker like ranitidine. So frustrating. I'm sure they'll find in another year that there's something wrong with Pepcid, too.

Exactly, so frustrating. And it’s not like y’all can just stop taking something. Chronic hives are no joke. DH has had several rings cut off due to the swelling. I had them for a while and was so miserable.

I still have a lot left but noticed today when I stopped in for lactaid that Walmart has taken all zantac plus its generics off the shelf. For those of you that switched, what did you switch to? I can't take PPIs. They make me puke, plus I don't like the risks. The other H2 blockers are Pepcid and Tagamet.

He says it works okay, no hives but the itchy feeling comes and goes. I think we will try Tagamet next.

My husband switched to Pepcid 2x/day a month ago and it seems to be working just fine.

I take it so infrequently (maybe once every couple of months) that I'm not going to get rid of mine.

I have been taking it for decades. When this became public, I tried Tagamet which was prescribed for me in the 80’s. Turns out Zantac works far better. I just called my doctor to see what she suggests. I know she was adamant not to take Prilosec.

My doctor suggested I switch to Pepcid - which I have. I don't think it works as well as the rantidine did but...that might have been due to the antibiotics I was on at the same time so I'll finish this package and re-dicuss at my November appt

Thank you for all for posting. As many of you know, I like to look at things from another angle. And reading this has inspired me to look at this from another angle and explore that. Some of what you posted was like a double edged sword. That triggers my “how can we integrate this instead of choosing the less of the wrong path?” (yet still one that just takes you on a loop instead of a dead end)
So when I went with my angle (that I use a lot) of “everything is energy” and the 2 categories that decipher these energies are feminine and masculine or a little of both. (Giving is a masculine energy , Receiving is a feminine energy)
So, what I’m getting when it comes to acid and alkaline (in foods that is) Acid is a masculine energy Alkaline is a feminine energy
And the key is to always balance the energies of your feminine side (left side of the body) and masculine side (right side of the body). When a person is feeling too acidic (acid reflux, inflammation, gas, heart burn...etc) they need alkaline foods OR other resources of feminine energy, to balance back out.
I know with me, I have a lot more feminine energy than I do masculine. (And this has nothing to do with me being female) I’m a very watery energy. And I crave sweets a lot. But what I’m getting from this (at least on a personal level) is I have this craving because I lack masculine energy. BUT, what I’m getting is there are other ways to get that masculine energy other than eating sweets or junk food. (Remember this is the angle exploration of “everything is energy” )
Masculine energy is not just in junk food. It’s also in action, confidence, passion, (think Fire) ...etc And I feel that’s what my energy is really craving. And will sweets give me that confidence? Hasn’t worked so far.
This is just me personally exploring, so take only what resonates. But this exploration has influenced me to eat more foods from natural resources where they have feminine energy from the earth and masculine energy from the sun. Nice balanced foods.

I finally got in touch with my doctor and he (his nurse, actually) said to take 40 mg pepcid twice daily or 200 mg tagamet twice daily. I was taking 150 mg ranitidine (zantac) twice a day. Do those numbers sound right? I'm on it long term so I don't want to OD or anything...The reason it seems off is because Pepcid AC max strength is 20 mg and zantac max strength is 150 mg. So I was thinking 20 mg twice a day sounds more logical. I can't even find a 40 mg pepcid. Tagamet only seems to be sold in a 200 mg strength.
