Yep, I'm cleaning today.
I wondered how often people took their curtains down to wash

Not very. I do want to take down the bedroom drapes and wash them. It has been a very long time for them! The living room and dining room drapes are less than 2 years old, so they are fine.

The window sheers and valances I do once a year, although sometimes I think cleaning does more harm than good. Some have non-visible sun damage and washing results in them falling apart. The one set of curtains I have that have the blackout lining I will simply buy new ones once they get too dirty and break down.

Once a year or every other year. Maybe I should do it more often. I didn’t wash them this year and think I will leave it for spring cleaning when that time comes round again.
I have the same simple linen drapes from Pottery Barn on every window in the house. Small house, so not many sets.

Yep, I'm cleaning today. I wondered how often people took their curtains down to wash I only have curtains in my office, and 99.99% of the time they are open (I use the blinds daily). My office doubles as my guest room and has a wall of unobstructed windows facing east so I have ivory colored blackout curtains over the blinds so my guests can sleep past sunrise. I take them to the cleaners probably once every 2-3 years. In between, my housecleaner vacuums them regularly.

None of my curtains are machine washable.
They’re too delicate/intricate (sheers, fringe, beads, silk, taffeta). Most of them are also too big to fit in my washer. They come from just below the ceiling and pool on the floor and they’re very full.
I vacuum them.

Never! I’ve only got curtains in the bedrooms and I don’t think they get very dirty. I do change my decor around often so I give them a good shake to remove dust when I do that.

Not often enough! I only have one set I have to wash (black out curtains). I prefer blinds and nothing else. Less work.

I vacuum them periodically but if they’re dirty beyond that it’s probably time to just replace them. I’ve discovered washing them usually means I’ll end up buying new ones anyway when they inevitably fall apart in the washer.

Never. I take the out and shake them. I just know if I try to wash them, they’ll fall apart.

Maybe once every couple of years? It's nothing I do on a schedule, just if I notice they look dirty. I don't have many curtains and I haven't ever had them fall apart after being washed.

Not often enough. I’ve been eyeing my living room and dining room sheers. They’ve been up there for years. I was finally going to take them down and wash them, but now I see a couple have small tears toward the bottom. So probably I just need to replace them all at this point. The undamaged ones can be washed and go in the guest room which needs new curtains for sure.

I have lined linen curtains in my LR, the only curtains in the house. I would have to dry clean them, which I try to keep to a minimum. They were installed three years ago so I’ve only shaken them out.

I do not think I ever have unless I'm taking them down to put other ones in their place. And then I only wash them if I'm going to store them. I do vacuum every now and then.

I only have 3 sets of curtains (rest are blinds) and vacuum regularly. The dining room curtains just got replaced last week, sitting room last year but there's one set of bedroom curtains I will get dry-cleaned when I repaint the room next year.

Once per year. With that said, my decorating skills are sub par. Most of our windows just have blinds or honeycomb shades on them. 😏

I do not have curtains. I do wipe my blinds down weekly.
My grandpa was widowed when I was a baby. Then he remarried. After he passed away, his widow told his kids to deal with the house and left. Dad and my aunts had to clean the house and repaint it for the market. It hadn't been repainted in 20+ years (back when my grandma was alive) and the curtains were the same ones from my childhood. I do not think they had ever been washed or moved. They were sun faded where they got the most light and darker elsewhere. I remember one aunt finding a spider egg casing in the folds and shoved them all in a trash bag. I do not remember my step-grandma being much of a homemaker.

I don't have any, either and it's great! I have wood blinds all over. I did have a cornice made for my den so the large window woudn't look so bare. I don't miss curtains at all.

I have 38 floor to ceiling panels of white cotton, half in the living room and half in the bedroom. I try to wash them twice a year, Fall and Spring but sometimes I only get around to it in the Spring. I do four panels in a load and hang them back up wet. They dry in about an hour and the wrinkles hang out. My doors and windows are wide open every day even in the winter so the curtains need a good washing as often as I can get around to doing it.

Have not done since we put them up. But, now you have me wondering if I should. I think they would need to be taken to the dry cleaners though, so I might just shake them out.

I took the curtains down that are on our 8 foot tall by 12 foot long window/door wall (opens all the way up for seamless indoor/outdoor living) in August 2012 and washed them when cleaning for my daughters first birthday. They shrunk. Off to the fabric store to get something I can sew on the bottom ONE FOOT to get them back to the floor! Yes, they shrunk that much! I added the bottom panel and it looks nice and were just above the floor so they didn't get dirty going across the floor. Anyway, put them back up and didn't take them down again until her 7th birthday party to wash them again. They shrunk back up to the height they were when I fixed them. Now they're touching the floor just over a year later. They're from Ikea. I do NOT recommend them! LOL

Funnily enough - I have spent the weekend washing my net curtains and cleaning all the timber joinery in the house.
In my lounge ( the only room I haven't done) have aluminum joinery which won't take long, and newish Roman blinds - I will vacuum them.
The drapes in the rest of the house - will be vacuumed, and replaced in my daughters room.
I have a love/hate relationship with spring and spring cleaning.

But - its been a long time and I’m sure the water would turn yuck. It’s really not a problem to throw them in the washer. I’m just concerned about a big, fly-away, messy situation after. I mean, they hang so nice. Dirty probably, darn it.

I need to wash mine. They get kinda dirty from the cats walking past them and sitting in the window. Brushing off the cat hair only works for a couple years. Plus I just found out someone spilled coffee or tea somehow on one of them, so now I def need to wash one panel which means I’ll have to do the other 7 as well
