I wash sheers more often than other types, but sometimes just buy new ones because they never seem to be the same after washing -- they shrink, they pull to one side, etc.
I love the windows with blinds only as they are so much easier to keep clean.
I have fairly heavy traditional drapery in the formal living and dining rooms. I have vacuumed those for the last time. The next time they come down, it will be to stay. I don't like them anyway, but my husband loves that formal look so we left them when we bought this house eight years ago. Eight years of maintaining those dust catchers is enough for me.

I need to wash mine. They get kinda dirty from the cats walking past them and sitting in the window. Brushing off the cat hair only works for a couple years. Plus I just found out someone spilled coffee or tea somehow on one of them, so now I def need to wash one panel which means I’ll have to do the other 7 as well We had a set of really nice quality blackout drapes in our family room when we moved in that came with the house. That one front window behind DH’s chair was the one our black lab liked to look out while he was waiting for DH to come home from work every day. This was the dog that also liked to lie in a dirt hole he dug behind the lilac bush in front, or under the truck in the driveway when it was hot outside. OMG. The drapery that hung on that side got so disgustingly filthy so fast! And since I was pretty sure they were dry clean only, we ended up just throwing them out and replacing them with a $15 long sheer thing from Amazon draped over the rod. I wouldn't even know where to go to replace them with something similar to what was already there.

Me too! I find them on clearance and just change the out when needed. They are all pretty basic. I do dust the blinds yearly.

I took the curtains down that are on our 8 foot tall by 12 foot long window/door wall (opens all the way up for seamless indoor/outdoor living) in August 2012 and washed them when cleaning for my daughters first birthday. They shrunk. Off to the fabric store to get something I can sew on the bottom ONE FOOT to get them back to the floor! Yes, they shrunk that much! I added the bottom panel and it looks nice and were just above the floor so they didn't get dirty going across the floor. Anyway, put them back up and didn't take them down again until her 7th birthday party to wash them again. They shrunk back up to the height they were when I fixed them. Now they're touching the floor just over a year later. They're from Ikea. I do NOT recommend them! LOL That is what you get for betraying the sisterhood and washing your dang curtains!

Just thinking about doing that. Pain to iron them afterward but....I did them a couple years ago. I need to wash/dust blinds too. So time consuming.

Never. All of my draperies and other window treatments are not machine washable. I vacuum them occasionally. I made custom window treatments for 16 years. I always told my customers to just vacuum their treatments. If something could be easily removed, they could put it in the washer with a wet cloth and tumble dry, no heat. They are a vertical surface and are not going to collect dust like a lot of things in the home.

Thankfully I have the knowledge and ability to fix it!

Yikes... I don't even know... whenever I start seeing a 1/2 inch of dust just piling up... From reading the other posts, yeah, I have never washed them, but just took them down to shake off said dust. I do have a cheapie valance in my bathroom that is just cotton.. I will probably wash that when the time comes... I do try to take something to knock off dust..

No curtains here. I have pella windows. The blinds are encased between the two panels of glass so they don’t get dirty.

not often enough judging from the layer of grey cat fur just above windowsill height on the three secondary bedroom sets I took down today, washed, and rehung wet. The rest will get washed this week also - I'm fall cleaning (I spring clean also but I don't think I did curtains this spring)
