Curious. Long story short: I had another eye surgery where they take a lot of fat (graft) from my stomach. This time they took a lot!! My surgeon told DH that she did me a favor, since I've always talked about wanting a tummy-tuck forever. I was very heavy and then lost a lot of weight back in 2002, and my tummy had a little pouch of permanent fat and skin, despite a healthy diet and working out. I wasn't going to do anything about it surgically, but now my eye surgeon took some extra out of there for me. Yeah.
So... questions:
How long does a full abdominal liposuction take to heal? Do you keep wearing the binder? (I've heard that I should keep it on 24/7 for the first 2 weeks, and then wear it for 12 hours/day for up to 2 more months)
Didn't realize it would be all bruised and painful, but I'm not bending or lifting (as much as I can restrict it!) for now. Hoping it'll get better in another week (it's only been 1 week).
TIA for any info. Never thought I'd be posting about a liposuction!!

Well you had/got lipo for a good reason at least. I'd really like some on my calves as I can't loose that fat. I hope your feeling better soon. You've been through so much already.

I had full tummy lipo as part of my breast reconstruction surgery at the end of June. The healing from the lipo was longer and more painful than having my implants switched out, skin removed, and then the fat injected up there. My stomach hurt and ached for weeks. I had to wear that f’ing binder that went from my hip bones to under my breasts for 6 weeks 24/7 and then 2 more weeks 12 hours per day. Let me tell you that wearing that binder throughout a hot and humid summer was awful. And, really, since he didn’t take a tummy tuck, just removed some fat, I really don’t look any better - probably worse. I still have pain pain if I wear anything with an elastic waistband that hits where the belly button incision was. I’m sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing right now. It is no fun!

I was going to tell them to contact YOU! This full lipo was done as a favor........ She did have to go in there (again) and pull out a ton of fat anyway, but she did the FULL deal on my stomach because she knew I'd appreciate it......... She also knows that I'm a bit "down" about everything not working out with my surgeries right now......... So, she can't talk about the lipo or advise me. She did have her nurse cut the sutures but that's it.....
elaine :Damn!!! It does kinda look flat already, but I doubt that the skin will disappear unless it's cut off........ I guess as long as it looks better in jeans or a bathing suit, I'm ahead of the game.
You ARE right about the recovery! I'm not even feeling the pain from my eye because the discomfort of the whole stomach thing is worse! It's still all bruised. I don't see an incision near my bellybutton. There were 2 entry points below my bikini-line which were done about 4 times before. That's where the stitches were. But, yeah, OUCH--hurts to move.
It's HOT here in FL, so the binder is a PITA, especially to wear it under clothes that cover it all up. Guess I have a few more weeks of doing that..........
I don't like to hear that your incision is still that sensitive. Sorry. I'll see how it goes with mine. I really think the incisions were almost on my groin. I'm just happy to be allowed to lie on my side now b/c of my eye surgery....... Every bit helps, right?? I'll probably still be wearing the binder when I go for the next eye surgery (if DH is okay)... Right now he just got a diagnosis of MRSA and I have a yeast infection on top of everything else. We need to be put in separate bubbles for our safety right now! LOL.
Hope all is well with you!! Ooh, and I was curious about the fat they injected into your breast area. My socket seems to just suck it back in within 3 months, but I KNOW it lasts for up to 5-6 years with most people. Did yours stay put??? I hate to have to keep going back to put more in, knowing it's not going to stay there. It's very discouraging. The next surgery will be removing a strip of scar tissue in the upper area of my socket, and putting in membrane from placenta. Hmm................ I don't even want to think about it yet!

HONESTLY, it's not worth it!!!!!!!! Having gone thru so many surgeries, I'd never have surgery unless it was absolutely necessary. No thanks......... That's why I just dealt with some excess fat or skin... Can't imagine how I'd do with a tummy-tuck!!! I'm sure your calves look fine--we're all hard on ourselves.

I had the two incisions down below my c-section scar and then the one at the belly button - so 3 incisions in all. The fat injected into my left “breast” seems to be staying put. My right “breast” however isn’t being cooperative and some of the fat has already been reabsorbed. I also still have some adhesions on that side, so I will have yet one more surgery/procedure to help at least with the adhesions. That should not need general anesthesia, so I am not as anxious. I think that I have to live with the fat being reabsorbed and that my “breasts” will just never seem like breasts to me. They really are just a skin layer over implants. I doubt that I will go through the trouble of having nipples tattooed on. I’m sorry that they keep putting you through the liposuction ordeal. Once was enough!

I had abdominal liposuction for my breast reconstruction and was totally noncompliant with the belly binder after a few weeks (and had no lumps or other issues with healing). I was back at work a week after the surgery and found it too distracting and not comfortable (I'm an RN). I have very, very faint scars on my belly but even my GYN had a hard time finding them when she did my hysterectomy last year (she wanted to do her incisions in the same spots so I wouldn't have extra scars, but couldn't find them so I have a whole new set of poke holes)

Not sure why some of us have a quicker reabsorption rate. Every drop they've put in my each time completely reabsorbed within 3 months. That's why they want to add membrane and other tricks, since that's ALL that's filling my socket. Silicone was so much easier and lasted for 45 years but ended up to give me tons of pain and problems. It's a shame that they can't create something organic that will stay put like silicone does. As far as your adhesions (scar tissue?), every time they operate, it's more scar tissue, so it's a very tough call. I know they want to get it right though! You're getting the next one done without anesthesia?? Mine was almost 3 hours this time (a small surgery), but they had to knock me out again for it. Wish they could just put it in the areas we need it via needle.....
My Ocularist is now doing the tattooing for nipples, aerolas and eyes. I'm so sorry that you doubt you'll go through the trouble of getting there. I completely understand. We've had enough, right? I don't care if they just patch me up and call it a day, as long as the awful pain doesn't set in again......
Hugs to you.

I am moving around slowly and able to do some things now (10 days out of surgery). The binder is a PITA to wear under clothes and layer it. It's in the 90's with high humidity here. Hoping the binder holds out for a few more weeks, or I'll have to buy a spare one!
As far as your scars on your belly: WOW!! I still see my daVinci hysterectomy scars, and then I have 4 other scars from fat grafting/lipo in the past few years. They never seem to be able to take it from the same spot. Now I have 2 more small scars even lower. Doesn't bother me--I have so much loose skin down there that it's hard to see what's what.... Glad your scars are faint!

I bought both a spare binder and a spare compression bra (for the reconstruction part). It was almost $200 out-of-pocket, but I had to wash the garments every few days and so needed spares since you have to hang them to dry. My surgeon also recommended wearing a tank top under the binder, and while it was an extra layer, I bought really light weight camisoles at the GAP and wore one under the binder and it felt much better than elastic against skin.

elaine My belief is that those items should be covered by insurance! Yours were necessary surgeries and recoveries! I'll need to get a spare binder --this one was from the hospital and it's already got some rips! I'm still not active yet and I stay in the a/c, so it hasn't gotten too gross yet.. I'll have to get another one asap though!! Thanks.

I know it burns like fire! lol I had it done as part of mastectomy reconstruction, like Elaine. I burned for a few weeks across my lower abdomen and my inner thighs. I wore the binder as long as I could, I think it was about 10 weeks.
What I will say is that every plastic surgeon I've gone to in the last 15 years recommends putting tape (any kind) over scars to reduce the raising and redness.
