The dish detergent thread reminded me to ask about the tablets or pods (not really sure what they are called) for laundry.
Sam's was out of my normal detergent so I was looking and the detergent pods. My washing machine has the slide out tray for dispensing detergent and fabric softener. I'm not sure if the pods are compatible. If you have this soap dispensing tray, do you use the pods? If so, do you just drop them in the machine or do you put them in the dispenser?

Yeah, drop them in the machine. If you use a lot of cold water washes and notice the pods aren't dissolving well, you can put a little hot water in the machine first, drop the pod in to start dissolving and then switch to cold. Or dissolve it in a cup of hot water first.

I must have completely missed that on the package. Now I wasted a new thread just because I can't read!

I love Tide Pods!!! We put one in the bottom of the washer whenever we put a load in the dryer. I had a real problem with DH overusing laundry detergent. He's always of the mindset that if a little is good, more is better. We use the pods and I don't need to worry about too much detergent anymore. It's especially important now that we have an HE washer.

I've noticed that my grocery stores aren't stocking the pods anymore, or at least not many of them - maybe half a shelf. There used to be more packages of pods than there was the liquid detergent, and now it's all back to liquid.
Anybody know why?

They are great for my daughters to use at college-much easier than lugging boxes or bottles to the laundry machines.

My only suggestion.....don't use them in the dishwasher...... (I just throw them into the washer on top of the clothes. My washing machine is in charge of all laundry and refuses to allow me to open it's lid after the water has started going in, so I can't melt them then add the clothes. The washer doesn't like that. I just do what I'm told.......)

I also love the Oxy-Clean pods! Makes everything very easy when you toss a Tide pod and an Oxy-Clean in with your clothes and you are good to go.

I am half-way through my first container of them. I toss them in with the clothes. I have had a couple that didn't dissolve all the way, so I don't think I'll buy them going forward.

I just toss them in the machine with the water running. Thankfully I got this machine young and trained it right. It lets me run the water with the lid open. I've never had a problem with them not dissolving and I've been using them exclusively for about a year. I like the convenience of them. My kids (8 and 11) do their own laundry and I wouldn't be comfortable with that if they had to measure the powder or liquid. In fact, now that I think about that I am imagining all kinds of messes!

I love my dishwasher and washing machine pods. Now I need a dinner pod: "Here. Add water and it'll turn into chicken and potatoes." Right out of Willy Wonka.

No! A Pea would never use something as artificial as a dinner pod"
I've used them for about two years now. I love them and have never noticed that one didn't dissolve. But I have a 20 year old machine that I will use until it dies.

I've been using them since All Free and Clear came out with them, and they seem to work as good as liquid. I throw them on top of the laundry and have never had one not dissolve. I use them in the dishwasher, too, but I do put it in the same place you would put the detergent without issue (and with clean dishes).

Oxy-Clean pods? I have a toddler and could definitely use those. I had no idea they existed!

I have never seen them! This sounds like something I need!! They are just like laundry soap pods, but they are filled with genuine Oxy Clean, in pre-measured one load servings. Just toss in like you do with laundry soap pods and whatever detergent you are using and voila! Clean clothes! Around here in Northern VA I get them at Target or Walmart - they are located in the section with the regular Oxy Clean (which always gets all clumpy in our high humidity), but sometimes on a different shelf. They are not cost effective compared to powdered Oxy Clean, but MUCH less messy and they don't clump.

My friend had to have her machine repaired and the repair person told her that the pods are better for front loaders and the use of them is what blocked her top loader and it actually stopped working. Lucky for me she gave me her stash of tide pods that have been working great in my front loader.

The commercials for those things kill me when they mention how much time these things will save you. If you do not have the 6.2 seconds it takes to put some detergent in your washing machine, you should do some serious adjustments in your daily activities! Also, I am too frugal to buy them.
