We have been allied with the Saudis for a long time. I used to work for OPM-SANG, which is tasked with helping to modernize the Saudi Arabian national guard. It’s about oil and Iran. This isn’t new or Trumpian.

Correction to the OP’s title...

Trump thinks everything that the American taxpayers fund is at his personal disposal for revenge, spite, bullying, power trips, vengeance.
And no republicans are trying to reign him in. They are all corrupt.

We have always ignored the Saudi's shortcomings. We ignored their links to Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. We have given them weapons that they turned around and gave to terrorist groups and the list goes on. Trump has just raised the level of support for the Saudis to a new level and is more open about it.
