I have a friend who needs to hire a tutor for her kids for several months while she is in London. She's going to bring work from their school but needs someone to kind of home school them over there.
She's looking at the website Indeed and would like the person to have teacher credentials for this to show her kids' school that they are working with a "real" teacher - but she doesn't know what credentials teachers need in England or what to look for. (For example, in U.S. a teacher minimally needs a bachelor of arts and a teacher certification. Often they have a master's degree.)
I told her that if anyone would know, the peas would. Any advice you can give me is much appreciated!

There is no extra ‘teacher certification’ in the UK. If you have a Bachelor’s in Education, that is the certification to teach elementary school. Secondary (HS) teachers usually have a degree in their specialist subject and then an extra certification to teach it such as a PGCE (post graduate certificate of education). At least this was the case when I did my BEd. It may have changed slightly though. ETA - all teachers should have QTC (qualified teacher certification). This was mostly put in place to ensure teachers arriving from other countries are able to teach to the required standard.

I can recommend this site as I found a great tutor there who had a PHD www.firsttutors.com/uk/You can search by postcode and will get a list of tutors with an outline of their experience, their speciality, reviews from parents etc You pay the company an intro fee and then pay the tutor separately. I had no issues at all.

Most teachers in the UK have a bachelors degree at 2:1 classification or above (not necessarily in Education), most have QTS (qualified teacher status), some have a PGCE.
Source: am a primary school teacher (& only have 1 of the above so I can vouch for my “most” statements)
