Depends on which cat, and how much they've vomited on my stuff lately.

Your link just went to a news station's FB page. Can you repost? But based on the question you post... ABSOLUTELY NOT.

I am not a "fur baby" kind of pet owner. I love, adore and appreciate my cats...but I am not one who looks at them as if they are one of my children.
Having said that though, I can't imagine selling them as part of a deal for selling the house. I don't think that is very nice and would wonder about leaving them with someone who looked at them as if they something to be bought/sold like a couch.

No. I don't see them as commodities.

When I sold my house eight years ago, the purchaser made an offer to buy one of my cats, as well. He offered to add $5,000 to the house offer for her. I said no way. He really fell in love with her, but no way. That same kitty still sleeps next to me every night. The guy still bought the house for full asking price.

I would have to consider it for $140K, provided I felt they were genuine people who had just fallen in love with my cat. I wouldn't consider "throwing in" the cat or even for a small amount of money, but $140K is a college fund.
On a related note, when my parents bought our house in 1987, the previous owners couldn't find all of their kittens, so they left two. I think the deal was that we were supposed to link up if we found them, but we, of course, just ended up with two sweet kittens.

Do you wonder why a potential home buyer would even want to have a cat added in? Is it some kind of status thing? Or is it a we should have a cat thing? Or what?
It confuses me.

Uh, no. My cat is part of my family, not a piece of furniture.

Sounds like it was the buyer's child who wanted the cat, and the parents asked to buy the cat with the house. I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy my irritable old special needs cat for any amount of money, but he's not for sale. He's been with me through some of my darkest times for 13 years and he makes me smile every single day--often, just by being a total dick, which is somehow endearing when he does it, but also with the total affection he shares only with me--and I couldn't ever put a price on thirteen years with him. That's longer than some marriages! Not for $140k or any amount of money. My daughter's cat, though...:-)

140K adder for the cat, am I reading that correctly? CRAZY! I couldn't do it, even for 140K. The dogs maybe, but not the cats (totally kidding, wouldn't sell any of them!)

There is a lot I could do with an extra 140K. If they wanted my former feral cat who got out and I can't get back in the house...that's totally cool. If they want my indoor cat who looks like a poodle because she's licked off so much fur...I would waver for a bit...but it's 140K.

Holy crap, I would hope that I have the moral fiber and character to exhibit at least as much loyalty to my animals as they do to me.

I am not a cat person but I can say that I would not sell my dogs with the house. Sounds like this couple got about $122,223 US for their cat. That is a lot of money but I still wouldn't do it with my pups.

I have a total of 4 cats. 2 of those cats I would totally sell for $140k. The other 2, no way, not for any amount of money. The first two being of the "would sell me for a can of tuna" variety, and the second two probably would, too, but they at least pretend to like me at times when I'm not feeding them.

Nope. I wouldn't sell my house with my son included (though on occasion I'd be tempted), why would I include my cat/s?

Well we currently live in a lovely rural area but are having to sell and move to somewhere cheaper which is most likely to be in town on a built up housing estate. These kitties have only been with us one year and, honestly, we rarely see them as they are out in the fields for most of the time we are around. I had wondered if any buyer for our house would be interested in the cats, mainly as I can't see that they would settle well in the type of location we are going to have to move into. They are really not people pleasing felines. Will be stroked rarely and only want us to feed them and let them sleep somewhere warm when it is raining outside. Now, the old two cats we had that these three replaced - no way, no how - they were older so had got so they stayed inside more but also they were very affectionate and loved being in our company, following us around like little dogs.

LOL I feel your pain!
I have one that I would sell for sure - it doesn't like me either ha ha. I did have a neighbor that wanted to borrow my cat since he's such a good mouser.

I'm sure DH would tempted to sell my cat if they were to offer that much. But no, that fat boy is mine. He's affectionate so I can see some people falling in love with him. But again, that little (big) attention whore is mine and he goes with me.

When we bought our house, the former owners asked if we would consider keeping the 12 year old, cranky siamese cat too, as they were moving to a retirement village and didn't think she would transition easily. They actually paid in advance for her vet bills and were very affectionate in their parting. She lived another 8 years and was pleased to be cranky and vocal all night for us too.
Would I sell our pets? Na. who they are is a function of the trusting relationship with us, so anyone who tried to buy they with the house would be disappointed.

I would like to say that for 140K I think I would in a heartbeat. But I don't think I would have been able to sell my fat orange guy before he passed away, although he was annoying as hell at times.

After I had left home my parents bought a house in a another town. They kept noticing a black cat hanging around the back porch. My mom asked around to several nieghbors and they all told her the cat lived in her house! The previous owners just left the cat there. My dad wasn't too pleased and the cat lived for another 7 years. Crap move on the previous owners.

I might actually reduce the price of the house if they would agree to keep both cats.

That is really hard. I adore my cats but that is a LOT of money and it would put DH and I in a comfortable financial position for the first time in 20 years. I would do it, provided I knew they would be loved and cared for. If there was a question about their well-being then no way...I would definitely take them with me.
