Where would you be? I got home last night, set my purse down and dropped my car keys. Yep-the car key broke clean off the fob (see example pic). As in you can't use it because it's the stick part of the key and would be stuck in the ignition if I tried. We remodeled our kitchen starting last October and I know the key hooks were taken down and everything was boxed up. The key hooks are back up and MOST of our keys are there, just not my Buick keys. Ugh. GM is on strike and the dealers can't even get keys right now. I ordered a blank on Amazon, and DH thinks the stick part will still work on the new fob. I sure hope so!

The keys would be in my bedroom.
Either in a box under the bed, or in the coin jar on top of the dresser, or put into an unused purse in the top of the closet "for safe keeping."

In the junk drawer in a little basket with all the random keys that we have acquired over the years. Good luck!

So the issue is keys that weren’t where they should have been stored a while ago? Do you have drawers in your entry table? Maybe they were placed in there thinking it made sense at the time. Your regular junk drawer? An old purse?

During the remodel I probably would have put my spare key in my desk or jewelry box.

dh says any locksmith should be able to cut and program a key for you. Get the vin number off the car, proof of registration and bring your old 2 part key with you.

I would swear up and down that I had given the spare to the DH.

Just called a lockworks place and they said to go to a dealer. My DH did call-this was in my original post: GM is on strike and the dealers can't even get keys right now.

Well, my extra set got flushed down a toilet. It was as an autoflush, too, so they disappeared the second I heard them hit. Hopefully yours are in a better location!

Your regular junk drawer? An old purse? We have checked all those places. I asked DH to check all his winter jackets because I SWEAR he is the last person to have them. I have checked every hiding spot I had while remodeling. Tonight I will have to check the console in our motorhome. It would be a weird place, but who knows!

Anyone else in the house who might have borrowed them to move the car in the last year?
Check pockets from all jackets.

I’d check the freezer.
Hope you find them!

I kept my spare keys on top of my refrigerator and they slid/were knocked off onto the shelf on the freezer door.
I hope you find them.
