Have a bladder the size of a peanut, then choose to drink half a gallon of coke during the film. Getting up 4 times to pee. Then having your partner recap what you missed when you were gone.
I rarely go to the movies, but DH and I really wanted to see Downton. There were maybe 20 people in the theatre. And of course these two clowns sat almost next to us. He laughed loudly after Maggie Smith’s every line, then repeated it to himself.
I honestly think audiences need clear etiquette rules before every performance.

that sucks! that is why i always sit in the back row - I hate people talking behind me. I probably would have moved or asked them to be quiet

And this is why I don’t go to the movies anymore.
Nothing beats the experience of watching something alone in my house.

I haven't been to a movie in a long time. I always have bad luck with someone really tall sitting in front of me, someone kicking my chair behind me or someone talking next to me. The last one I went to, the girl next to me was sick and kept coughing. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) With tickets costing $15+, I'd rather just wait until the movie comes out on Netflix.

That situation sucks all around.
You certainly should be able to watch a movie that you paid to see without unnecessary distractions.
And could you imagine how much it must suck to have to pee so much during a movie that you miss several parts of it? Maybe she had a medical condition, but really wanted to see the movie. Bummer.
And I agree with those who just watch movies at home. That's the way to go!
I've only taken my two youngest kids to a theater once, because they reached elementary school age and had never been, and I wanted them to know what it was like so they could relate to their classmates if the subject of going to the movies came up.
So, we get there early. Get snacks. Get good seats. Theater goes dark. Two minutes into the actual film, a group of five comes in and sits directly in front of us. And they are tall. Totally blocking our view.
So then *I* had to be that person, moving my kids and myself while to movie is on, to find a better seat. Gah!

It’s gotta be something about the theater. I can hold it all day at work. However, every time we go to the movies I have to pee half way through.

I hate people more at the movies. Every single annoyance is amplified. Eating loudly, talking loudly, moving, kicking, using your phone etc. It has to be a really good movie and it has to have been out for several weeks before I’ll go.

I’m so curious about this. We used to experience this a lot at the movies, rude people. But these days I would say it’s one out of ten movies we encounter anyone rude and mostly that is phones. All our theaters are renovated now with the big recliners and huge aisles so there are fewer people and they aren’t as close to each other as they were in the old theaters, maybe that’s it. We almost never have problems at the movies. If someone has to get up and pee the aisle is wide and you don’t have to do the shuffle to get out. And nobody can kick your seat back anymore either.

FYI that person may have Autism spectrum disorder or another mental illness. My asd son will do that sometimes. (Repeat and giggle). It actually helped him learn to talk (repeating phrases he heard)

I know it's not possible for most people but this is the reason we always go to a weekday matinee. Other than marvel movies on opening day, we usually see less than 5 or 6 other people in the theater.

I’m so sorry. That is frustrating to sit by people that are so clueless. If you gotta pee, you gotta pee but maybe seek out an aisle seat next time. No words for the man recapping the movie. On a positive note, sounds as if your theater was free of people texting (with their phones turned up to the brightest setting) during the movie. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

This actually reminds me of when we did go to a marvel movie and someone sitting behind us was telling his companion (who apparently was not a marvel geek) all about the marvel-verse during the opening ads and previews. Only he got most of it wrong. Then at the end they didn't even stay for the post-credit scene so we knew by then he was just a poser. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/laugh.jpg.gif)

A friend and I go to the movies about once a month. We are both retired, so we go at 11am and have lunch afterwards. The theaters are never crowded and everyone is polite. (It helps that we never have to sit next to a stranger).
People act so weird at the movies. The last time I went to a crowded theatre my son and I got there just as the lights had been dimmed and the trailers were starting. The theatre has recliners and it was packed that night. My son and I were in seats 3 & 4. I whispered to the man in seat 1, "excuse me, we're in seats 3 & 4." The theatre is designed so there is plenty of room to walk in front of a fully reclined seat without even touching the footrest. but when I started to walk in front of his seat he yelled, in a very angry voice, "Would you at least give me time to get up and let you in!" Of course, everyone in the theatre looked at us to see what was going on and I'm sure they all thought I was climbing over his recliner without saying "excuse me" or giving him any warning.
There are very few movies which are good enough to make me want to sit through them in a crowded theatre.

I’ll never know, but they were both irritating af during the movie.

Was the theatre big enough for you to move? I have done that when I've had annoying neighbors. No need to continue to sit next to them.

Or someone on their phone texting but the screen is so bright that it bugs the living daylights out of you.
I've just gotten so that I don't want to deal with other people and sticky floors and such. I borrow or rent most movies I want to see. I keep saying I will go during the day but then the movies I want are never at the right time to get done in time to pick up for school so it never happens. I can't remember the last time I was in a theater and I used to love going to movies but the last few times it wasn't enjoyable at all. Eventually I will attempt during the day but not in a huge hurry. What I really hate is if the theater is empty and then someone else comes in and they sit right behind you or right in front of you. oh and if behind you have to put their feet up. I haven't been to one of the nicer theaters with recliners those might be nice just haven't been to one yet.

Well I will continue to take my irritating ds to the movies 🤷🏻♀️ Please do. We saw one of the Avengers movies in a theater and there were a couple of kids behind us, we could tell they had some special needs and they did vocally respond to the film but they were not irritating. They were just people who came to the movies same as us, they just interacted with the movie a little differently than we did. Please don’t let people tell you that your child is irritating.
