I love cooked kale esp. when mixed with other greens like collards, beet. Yum!

Kale is super grody. My husband loves it. Me and the kids absolutely refuse to eat it in all it’s forms. HA.. I love that.... 'Super Grody' I would say Super Grody to the Max..... Love that! 😁

I was just having this conversation with my coworkers this afternoon. I set up a salad bar as part of the morning waitressing duties. Packing the ice around the containers was painful. Then the kale for garnish.
I remember the first time DH decluttering fed to make a kale salad. Dude, that is the stuff to garnish the salad bar. You don’t eat it.
He makes some incredible kale chips. The salad is edible. Guess it’s the lemon juice. Though, kale salad was dinner last evening. It all came back up within 15 minutes. I’m not sick. Weird!

I am guessing that was an 80s thing. In fact, whenever I don't see a little garnishment of some sort the plate looks naked to me. I can't remember where, maybe Texas Roadhouse? I think some steak place, a piece of meat and a potato on a plate with nothing else.. I always think to myself, something is missing.... It's the damn Kale. HAHAYasssss!!! I hadn't realized it until you said it, but the kale (or anything green) really makes the entree look WAY more appealing, doesn't it.? Kinda like when I make shrimp scampi and forget to sprinkle it with parsley flakes ----it doesn't look as yummy.

Mmmmmm, kale! Love it raw in salad, love it in my Zuppa Toscana. Used to grow several varieties for ourselves and our chickens. Favorites are the curlies and the Russian Red. Zuppa Toscana is the only legit use of kale in my universe.

This was my thought as I was reading this thread. The only time I’ve had kale that I would eat again was in a smoothie recipe with yogurt, banana, and juiced oranges—and probably a couple of other ingredients that I can’t remember. The recipe had a kale leaf or two in it and was still tasty. Other than that—no thanks.

They smell like dirt to me too.

I like kale in my minestrone and it is in one of my favorite soups from Alton Brown.
I can not eat it raw, no matter how long it sits with lemon garlic herb dressing on it.
Now spinach? Yum any way

I love kale. It's definetely better than just romaine or iceberg (yuck!) lettuce. We mix it with spinach, and then add other veggies to the salad. We also love it cooked. It's more flavorful than just the regular watery iceberg lettuce. Same. We use kale a lot in soups and curry based stews. It's the perfect addition because its heartier texture holds up to those.

Raw kale needs to be 'massaged' with an acidic dressing and left to sit for a few minutes to be really edible IMO. This makes it less tough and bitter. I agree. Unless it's baby kale fresh from the garden. However, I'm still not crazy about it raw. I do like it cooked. I like it as crisps. It's really good sauted or braised or in soup. I also put it or spinach in my smoothies as you can't taste it with the fruit mix but you get the nutrients.
