John O. Brennan wonders if the people impeachment process will reveal if the GOP will tolerate corruption, dishonesty, & avarice in our Nation’s highest office.
If so, America’s political soul & global standing will be indelibly sullied,
Yes John Brennan, the GOP will tolerate corruption and dishonesty because that is how far the GOP has fallen in the age of trump.

The best they got is to send the screechers out to tell people not to watch.
They must be scared witless.

And he continues.
“Nancy Pelosi cares more about power than she does about principle. She did not want to go down this road. She realizes this is a huge loser for Democrats. The Founders envisioned the worst people being in politics, yet they couldn’t envision this. You have these people taking...”
“the most powerful tool the legislative branch has, Impeachment, & they’ve turned it into a political cudgel, which is not at all what the Founders intended. When you hear Schiff use all these words like quid pro quo, it is because they can’t specify that Donald Trump broke..”
“any laws or did anything wrong, and they have to move away from quid pro quo because there was no quid, and there was no quo. Ukraine got it’s money (3 weeks early), and there was no investigation.” @charleshurt @foxandfriends”

MSNBC.
”.@joenbc on the impeachment inquiry against Trump: "This is a constitutional process...He doesn't understand this process. It's foreign to him. That's why he calls it a coup because he does not live by the same checks and balances that the rest of us do."

ABC News.
Dem. Rep. Mike Quigley to @tomllamasabc: "What some members have done in the past is make this a three-and-a-half minute speech. I think the members should put their egos aside and facilitate allowing the witnesses to tell the story.
The reason I don’t watch hearings is because of the stupid 3.5 minute sound bite speech before asking questions.

Barb McQuade.
Great to see a career prosecutor like Dan Goldman handling the questioning at impeachment hearings. So much better than alternating between parties for 5 minutes each. This will avoid political grandstanding and ensure a serious line of questioning for at least 45 minutes.
Agree

It's really notable how every Republican has adopted Trump's language and speech patterns.

David Frum
Trump was not "democratically elected" - he lost by 2.9 million votes. He was "constitutionally elected," by an 18th century constitutional design that includes a ban on foreign bribes to the president and that offers impeachment and removal as a remedy for bribe-seeking

Natasha Bertrand.
Nunes says Democrats conducted secret depositions without noting that dozens of Republicans were allowed to attend. (Many chose not to, however--Nunes, for example, was absent for Yovanovitch's testimony)
Random response
Why do we allow the GOP to lie
Good question.

Trump’s presidency hangs in the balance and the best House Republican leadership can do is field witless conspiracy theorist Devin Nunes to do his bidding.

Devin Nunes, the top Republican member on House Intel: Dems have a long history of accusing Repubs of offenses that they themselves are committing.
Context: Nunes is making the case that this is all about Democrats being angry about the 2016 election and wanting to oust Trump.
And this is exactly why, regardless of what happens in the Senate, the Democrats had to be able to make a strong case against trump before they started impeachment proceedings. The GOP no longer cares about the rule of law.

Devin Nunes is a useful reminder that the problem with our politics is not limited to Trump and won’t disappear when Trump is gone.

It would appear @elisestefanik is drinking the same loony tune juice with her breakfast as @nikkihaley - going from occasionally reasonable republicans to Trump shills. #pathetic

Attacks on the state Department witnesses are stupid. Nunes and his talk of Ukrainian sequels belongs on Hannity. George Kent is showing us why right now. But I hope the GOP keeps acting this way. It will render meaningless any legit claims they make.

A tale of two parties.
From AP
Democrats..
Rep. Adam Schiff says the impeachment inquiry is a test of "what kind of conduct or misconduct" Americans will expect of the president
Republicans
Rep. Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, says Democrats’ impeachment inquiry is “a carefully orchestrated media smear campaign.”

George Kent: "I do not believe the United States should ask other countries to engage in selective, politically associated investigations or prosecutions against opponents of those in power, because such selective actions undermine the rule of law regardless of the country."
Yea well ,the Republicans new motto is “Screw the rule of law unless it applies to the Democrats.”

Why do we allow the GOP to lie Good question. Because they learned that technique from the current President, who thinks if he tells the lie enough, it makes it true.

I think it was 3 weeks before the aid “expired.” so that makes it okay, then, I guess? because, 'hey, they got the $$ in the end, didn't they?' Never mind that the hold-up in aid surely caused Ukranian soldiers to be killed. (and the little fact that holding up the aid was an illegal overstepping of Congress's powers-- who cares about that, I guess...)

William Taylor: My understanding was that Secretaries of Defense & State, the CIA Director, & National Security Advisor sought a joint meeting w/ the president to convince him to release the hold, but such a meeting was hard to schedule and the hold lasted well into September.
Prompted this random reply.
If the President wanted that meeting, it would not have been "hard to schedule." Unless he is powerless.

Don’t think I’ve seen a straighter arrow than Bill Taylor
His testimony is thorough, steady, compelling, credible, and devastating.
