Today my Prime Membership is due to renew and the $130 is just such a lot of money for me. The only benefit that I use is the shipping, but my orders are typically over $35 anyway, so not sure that I'm really saving money with Prime. I'm looking for Pea experience here. Did you cancel your membership and regret it? Or, are you just as happy without the Prime membership? I'm sitting on the fence trying to decide what to do.

I’m happy with it because I order frequently. With that said I sometimes I find similar items elsewhere for a few dollars less - but it’s a wash when you add in shipping. So if you don’t order once a week or so, I’m guessing you can probably live without it.

We would really miss it. That being said, my XH pays the annual fee, and my account is linked to his. My DD, DS, and my DD's fiancée all use my account, so there are five of us spread over three addresses using the one Prime account. Great value! In the UK, we get free next-day shipping or often same day shipping, which is very seductive. If my XH were to cut us off, I would have to buy Prime myself. At my address, we have placed 120 orders so far in 2019, so it is definitely cost effective for us.

I'm almost 11 months Prime free and am surviving I used it only for shipping and the amount they are charging is just more than I want to pay at this point. The shipping is obvious a little slower, but they had been hit or miss on the 2 day thing anyway around the time I was deciding, which factored into my decision. Overall I haven't found it to be a big deal at all and unless they were pretty much giving away the membership, I wouldn't be tempted to go back.

I'm really tempted. It's taking 2-3 weeks to get our Prime packages from the states (to our APO address). I'm not sure if it's Amazon, USPS, or the APO causing the delay, but this is ridiculous. I think it's the APO, as I know there are a bunch of budget cuts with military mail that went into effect October 1. When we were stationed in S. Korea, we had our packages in 6-8 days, and that was 18 years ago. I'm frustrated! I just want my stuff!
Plus, we can't use the streaming services with a foreign ISP. Those were the 2 main benefits, so I'm really considering canceling.

I enjoy the kindle library so for me it has been worth it. But, I've not held a prime account for long and if all I was benefiting was free shipping it wouldn't be worth it. If you use some of the other prime benefits then you get more value from it.

We cancelled ours and don’t miss it. I always order more than $35 (whatever the minimum is) so I end up getting free shipping anyway.

Part of the value for me is not going to Target as often. If I have just a few things on my list, I will place an Amazon order with just those few things, rather than going to Target and ending up with a cartful. I only end up at Target about once a month or once every other month or so, and that definitely saves me money.
I also have been using the dollar digital credit for regular shipping instead of two day shipping, Then if there is a book my library doesn't have, or there is a long wait for, I can buy it for free using my digital credit.

I gave some thought to not renewing, but I looked back through my orders for a year and I use it enough for it to be worthwhile to keep it. I stream shows too. I'm not interested in holding my orders until I reach free shipping. I am paying for convenience.

And lose access to Jack Ryan? Not on your life. 😂
We buy a lot of stuff from Amazon and I value both the free shipping and the two-day time frame (sometimes sooner). We also use the Prime Now service for same-day delivery of Whole Foods groceries.

We are thinking of canceling. I hardly ever watch prime, order most during Oct, Nov, and Dec, and don't have a Kindle.

Just interested to know why that’s the only benefit you use. We signed up for Prime about three years ago I think, to get all the Christmas orders in good time and not have to make up a £20 order to get free shipping. I wouldn’t be without it now. We stream programmes all the time. Every week, probably daily, we use it for that. I love that we can download films and boxsets for viewing off line. It’s great that it works with Google Chrome now too so no need for a Firestick. I also borrow books quite regularly for free through Prime reading. That’s particularly good for holidays when I can get through a few in a short space of time. I download the odd women’s magazine too, which I never buy but quite enjoy flicking through when travelling. I only occasionally use the music streaming service as we pay for Spotify which we’ve been with for years.

When the annual fees started going up, I stopped it a couple of years ago. Every once in a while, usually around Christmas, I'll do it for one month and order away. Otherwise I just wait to accumulate enough to get free shipping. This works for us!

My kids watch several things on Prime on a regular basis, and they all use the Prime music streaming.
I order frequently and love the free shipping because I rarely spend $35 in one order. I take advantage of at least one lightning deal per week, and you have a limited time to place the order so no luxury of of waiting to combine with other orders.
That said, I rarely use the 2-day shipping and choose the extended shipping which gives me a dollar credit toward digital content. I never pay for kindle books, music or movie rentals because I almost always have a balance toward digital items. I think I earned $35 in credits on Prime Day alone.
And then there is the photo storage benefit. I have all my photos backed up to Amazon now, and the price for prints is really good. So far I haven’t had any issues with quality either.
My daughters all share my account, so the benefits per person aren’t that expensive.
At this point, I don’t see me ever canceling LOL. But then again, I still have my Costco account even though my closest Costco is 80 miles away for the last 7 years. I only shop there 4 times a year, plus online purchases, but I cant seem to let go of that Costco credit card and its cash-back benefits.

We have a free student account at the moment. Only use shipping. Even the 2 days is usually more like 3-4 where I live. My DH is building guitars from scratch and he gets all his parts from there. It’s nice but very much not worth the full price. We MIGHT get an actual paid student account when our free one expires but full price for just shipping, nope.

If I was only ordering product I would probably cancel. However, we are finding Prime Video is starting to have better shows than Netflix so we will be keeping Prime.

I think I would buy less shit if I did not have free shipping. So there is that benefit which for me would be a gain, not a loss.
But I have just started using prime music, and it is saving me from buying songs on iTunes.
Maybe you should just try it, see how it goes. You can always re-enroll, right? You wouldn’t lose a subscription discount would you? Like it wouldn’t cost more to cancel and then sign back up later?

I cancelled in August after being a member since the beginning. No regrets whatsoever. Orders take a little longer to arrive, but it’s no big deal to me. I also have found a spend a LOT less in impulse type purchases there now.
I plan on joining for a month when Season 3 of Mrs Maisel is released, but otherwise am not feeling like I’m missing a thing.

I cancelled the yearly subscription a couple years ago, but I activate a monthly membership ($13 a month, I think) for November and/or December holiday shopping.

I was ready to cancel and wouldn’t have missed it, except Amazon bought Whole Foods and now the money I save there because I’m a Prime member more than pays for my Prime membership.
In your shoes, I’d cancel.

I use more than the shipping - Prime Video, Amazon Photo as photo backup, Prime Music, Prime Pantry sometimes.

We would miss it for sure. It pays for itself just in the shipping charges alone because DH orders things frequently for his business from there. He also uses the streaming music almost daily. I download the free books and sometimes magazines (although I don’t very often actually have time to read them). The thing for me is that there are so many times when I need something and think, “Oh, I’ll just get that at the store the next time I go.” And then when I’m at the store 2-3 days later, they don’t have it. I end up saying to myself, “I should have just ordered that thing on Prime, I would have had it by now.” And it’s always the dumb little things too. That just happened again last week. I needed a replacement button battery for a digital thermometer. Went to Target, nope. Went to Fleet Farm, nope. Hardware store, nope. Menards, nope again. They have every other battery except the one I need. Should have just ordered it from Amazon last Sunday when I discovered I needed it and I would have had it already. If I would just do that every time, Amazon would save me craptons of time and frustration, and the local stores aren’t missing any business because they didn’t have the thing I needed in the first place.

I to have Student Prime through DD but I pay but it's a lot less (half price?). We use it for other than shipping, too but not tons. After DD eligibility goes away I'll get through younger DS. After he's through I'll reevaluate.
With the lower cost now, I'm satisfied we get enough bang for the buck

It is probably iffy for me. I do buy and then have things sent to my kids and grandkids, so it's probably cost-effective for me--just for shipping but mostly for convenience.

The only reason I'm keeping Prime is because of Prime Music. A lot of classical music, including some of my favourite musicians and conductors. It would cost a lot of money to buy all of these records separately. Then again, Prime in France only costs 49€ (US$54) at the moment.

I split my membership with a friend. He just notifies me when he puts something on his wish list, I order it, it is shipped to his address and then he pays me for it. It might sound like a hassle but it is worth it to me not to have to pay $130. Works for both of us.
Is there a neighbor, friend or family member you could split the cost with?

Amazon Fresh now delivers for free. I am going to give that a try soon. I mostly shop at Costco for groceries but run to the grocery store for a few things and it would be great to have them delivered!

I use the shipping all of the time for my business and have had very few problems getting it in the two day time frame--and often the next day. I also use the video and music, so it's all worth it for me.

I use it for lots of things besides the shipping: video streaming, kindle book borrowing, Whole Foods discounts, music. It's definitely worth it to my family. My son in college orders all his supplies and clarinet reeds and parts through it too.
