feeling numb...my sister drove over to mum's today after neither of us could reach her by phone - mum had passed yesterday evening probably on her way to bed. Please pray for the repose of her soul and especially for my sister who found her and is having to deal with most of the aftermath.

Thank you LisaDV and grammadeeI am so glad I was able to visit her last week but it's so hard to believe she's gone - she was physically very healthy - not on any prescriptions except the one for her memory.

Oh linda I'm just catching up and saw the post about your mum. I'm so sorry! I'm so glad you had that week with her and have some good memories of it. I don't even know what to say. My heart is breaking for you. grammadee you and LisaDV I don't even know how you guys do it lol. So busy! But making so many memories as well! I'm glad you are keeping your gut in check and taking care of yourself. I'm oddly glad to see some of your busyness didn't involve travel for you! How were your trips to Michaels and Walmart? And a craft fair!! Crafters bliss! LisaDV I would totally be opting for my own bed over bringing a recliner as well. But man I want my creature comforts. It's probably why I don't care much for camping lol. A wolf, would have me feeling the same way - exciting but scared. I hope your brother makes the right decision for himself. @elaynef so glad to hear you are feeling better! And congratulations to your DGS! I can't even imagine when mine is old enough to be married or drive, etc lol. Enjoy your hikes! nylene I love the relationships you have with your grands! I didn't really have grandparents growing up and I wasn't sure what kind of relationship I would have with mine, since I had no template, but I feel like I'm winging it pretty well and I love how close Rudy and I are. I think I'm probably exactly the grandma I always wanted lol. kellyr21 so glad you are continuing to feel better! And I love it you are going to make DH help you with your hair lol! Somehow the past week got away from me and I'm not even sure how lol. We've had movie night at DS place since he signed up for the Disney channel and I'm thoroughly going to enjoy that. It has nearly all my beloved Marvel movies there lol. And so many classic Disney movies too. He can have 4 devices on his account so he set me up a profile. And his neighbor across the hall asked him to help her set up her TV to try the free week trial for her DGD. He set her up a profile on his account as well which I think was so sweet and generous of him! I have cleaning to do today and then some scrapping this afternoon. (knitting lol) I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Thank you everyone. DH and I are driving up (2 days each way) Tuesday and Wednesday - the funeral will be Thursday morning - and then we'll drive back Saturday and Sunday as we have to drive (the other way) to get DD19 from college on the Monday. On the upside, DS is almost exactly at the half-way point so we'll stop overnight at his flat both directions.
I'm reading posts but not replying - I'm sorry.

Have a safe trip, Linda. Hoping the stay at your ds's there and back will help you relax during this traumatic time. (((((HUGS))))) LisaDV, I hope your journey to the farm goes well for you and your dd. Did you get her one of those slings that restricts movement? I found it made a HUGE difference when I was recovering from my broken arm. Glad you are spending quality time with Rudy, joyfulnana. Dd and family signed up for the Disney channel as well, and they have committed to one night per week eating dinner in front of a movie. This will be quite a feat for their ds who is very active, but she said that this last Saturday, although he got off the chair after supper, he stayed in the room playing with LEGO for the whole movie. How is your writing project going, nylene? I read in a different thread that you have been busy making Christmas cards. justjac was here on Sunday and brought me an early Christmas present: a really fun @thekatsmeow tree and deer die set. So I got to open it AND play with it on Sunday! Between what I did when the girls were here and what I finished off in the evening and this morning, I managed to finish 30 cards! Wednesday we are driving to a city about 3 hours away for a medical appointment Thursday morning for dh. Since we will be staying in a hotel, I think I will print off addresses for the Pokey Happy Holiday Christmas card exchange, as well as cards for other on line exchanges, and pack enough cards and envelopes so I can sign, seal and address them, ready to pop into the mail. Haven't started that process for friends and family, yet, but most of those cards do not have to go far, as opposed to the exchange ones that are heading out of the country. Okay, enough from me. Linda, I hope the journey goes well and that the funeral brings you comfort. Hugs for you and your family through this hard time. Sending my most sincere sympathy. grammadee, your craft outing sounds wonderful. And what fun to spend time with justjac. I love your new deer and pine tree die. Your cards are all so unique and beautiful. It sounds like you are well on your way to having them all finished before time to mail them. joyfulnana, having a Disney movie night with DS and Rudy sounds like a great time. I love all those movies. We don't have the streaming, but we have lots of videos and DVD's. Right now I am watching Hallmark Christmas movies while I scrap and write. I'm glad you are still getting to be involved in Rudy's life. You are a wonderful grandmother to him. I never had grandmas so I'm doing what I wish I'd had done with me when I was a child. Grandchildren are such a blessing. kellyr21, how are you feeling these days. I hope the hormones are evening out and that you are able to enjoy your crafts and hobbies. Sending you hugs! I'm sure getting outside sometimes helps. How are your cards coming? LisaDV, how is DD doing with her clavicle? I hope it's healing and that she is still able to do her schoolwork. Are you getting ready for Thanksgiving or do you have a thousand things to do before that? I'll be making cranberry relish this weekend and some cookies sometime this week. The rest will wait until next week. @elaynef, nice to see you popping in and so glad you are feeling better. I didn't write anything for 2 days (don't tell DGD) but worked entirely on Christmas cards. They are all finished, but I haven't taken a photo yet. I am back to writing, but stopped long enough to get a couple of pages done. I need to search to find photos to go with my childhood stories. Some I won't share here, but if I get some on a page I'll post them. Have a great week, everyone!

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all are feeling well. Each week for me is better and today is a good day. nylene, I haven't started my cards yet. We moved most of my craft stuff away from its normal space before I went to the hospital. We haven't put things back and it is a big pile of stuff I am not ready to go through. LOL! So now that the holidays are approaching I will have to get moving. nylene- I missed the post about you writing. Tell me about it. I think you are a terrific writer. Go girl! grammadee- Have a safe trip to the city. I hope all goes well. Waving hello to you all and have a good evening!

Linda, continued prayers for you and your family including safe travels. Sending you lots of love across the miles. grammadee, I did not get the 3point sling. I couldn't find one locally and Amazon delivery would have been the day we took off to leave for the farm (so probably after we left) and then I thought we'd leave the farm on Tuesday and it wouldn't have been delivered until Tuesday. However my farm experience with Amazon is even if they tell you 2-3 days for delivery it may be 4-5, and yes, I have prime. I had thought about canceling it when we lived here due to the package arrival timeframe never being 2 days, but it's just another downside of country life. The benefits far outweigh the cons as you know. Wow to finishing up 30 cards. I haven't even started, but I did find the Christmas papercrafting box, and I have some store bought cards in case I don't get to it. I hope your DH's appointment goes well. nylene, sometimes you can't force the writing and need to take other creative breaks for things like cards and pages. kellyr21, I'm glad to hear that each week has you feeling better. Be sure not to overdo yourself physically. joyfulnana, I'm ooohing and awing over your access to the Disney channel. We haven't taken the plunge and I don't think we will, but I think we all kind of want it. It's Wednesday and we're still at the farm. I'll be lucky to get out of here tomorrow. We came up Sunday and arrived in time for me to make dinner for the mighty hunters. Then on Monday, DD had been struggling with balancing chemical equations in school so I spent the morning refreshing my brain on that and the afternoon helping her understand how it works. I did get food made and cleaned up and 4 boxes packed, but not nearly as much as I has wanted to get accomplished. Tuesday, after loading some wood, I took my brother to the Lake (Bay) and to see a cute little town we love nearby and visited with a neighbor. Today, I hope to get everything taken care of enough that DD & I (& brother) can leave tomorrow, but also have another neighbor that I want to visit with. Why does it take longer to get things accomplished than I want?? DD's clavicle has a bump on it which means it's healing. It's not hurting her as badly too. She is getting sore under her arm and her hand is pealing from the constant moistness from being close to her body. I couldn't find what I did with the baby powder so I have her putting cornstarch under her arm and on her hand to absorb the moisture. Once I get home, I have the upstairs carpet in DD's, DS's, and the hallway to clean. I bought some heavier duty carpet cleaner and want to run it while the boys are gone. I have one room downstairs that still needs my attention as well, then I can move my attention to meal prep in between DD's doctor appointments that week. I haven't talked to MIL since coming to the farm, so want to call her today. She was in much better spirits on Saturday and hopefully will be able to go home from rehab soon. If she goes before Tday, then I'll have to make some time to go deliver all of the frozen meals I have made for them. Wishing everyone fabulous finish to your week with time for family, chores, and relaxation.

Hello, Pokeys! grammadee , I hope that things are going well for DH's appointment and that your trip back home will be uneventful. It is snowing here today. It's the first snow we have had since the first week in Oct. It rained all day yesterday. I'm hoping it will melt off. I am not ready for winter, although I know it is time. kellyr21 , my DGD participates in the NaNoWriMo activity every November. It is National Novel Writing Month. She started this in Jr.High. They are to write on their novel every day, never stopping to rewrite, recheck, just write, write, write and get their thoughts down. She thinks about it all year and writes like crazy in Nov. The goal for High School students is 20,000 words and pretty much completed novel. She has written some interesting stories. A couple of years ago she asked me to write with her and compare notes every few days. I have no desire to write a novel, but have been planning to write up stories of my childhood, especially things that kids don't do today. So that's what I have been writing. I write some every day, but have only put a few on a scrapbook pages. Eventually I'll get them all into an album. It has been a fun connection between us. LisaDV , glad to hear that DD's clavicle is healing. I hope she is still keeping up with her school work. Do you have a carpet cleaner or do you rent one. I really need my carpets cleaned but will probably hire it done. This house needs a lot of work in the next week. It has been neglected while I scrap. We have been having very poor water pressure lately and our faucets often spit air. The city is doing some water repairs and we chalked it up to that. The other day, we began to wonder if it was something more serious. Our son sent one of his plumber subcontractors to come take a look. He asked how long ago we replaced the water heater....ah, 25 years ago or more. The hot water spigot had corroded so much only a pinprick of water was getting through. He also discovered that when we built the house 46 years ago they didn't install pressure gauges. So that needed to be installed too. They were here working for 6 hours yesterday. It's amazing to take a shower and have pressure! I don't know what we would do without our son! It pays to have a contractor in the family. We get quick service. I need to go do housework for a while. Have a great weekend if I don't get back for a couple of days.

nylene, I wish we had a contractor in our family. I'm glad you got your pressure fixed. I love me some strong water pressure. At the farm I have to remember to NOT turn the faucets on full as it will spray out due to so much pressure. In town, I'm wishing for more pressure at full blast. I own a carpet cleaner. We didn't have carpets at the farm, but I have had this cleaner since Indiana so at least since 2011, if not before. It's still working fine though, even with sitting for the last 5 years.

Whoo Hooo for hot water and good pressure, nylene. So glad your son could help you out! Hope you don't get too much snow. All of ours from earlier has now melted. We have temps in the above freezing range, and will for a few days to come. It is really weird to look out and see the lawn and the garden dirt. Glad your dd's clavicle is healing, LisaDV. I am renting a carpet cleaner next week and our dsil is coming to move the living room furniture out so we can clean that carpet before we put up the Christmas tree. I usually move the furniture around to accommodate the tree, but need help getting it ALL off the rug. It will cost $50 to rent the machine for a day plus for the cleaner. The rooms upstairs each need to be done, but I think we may do just a couple at a time b/c the furniture moving is the biggest part of the job, and that way there will be somewhere to put what we drag out, and leave it there until the rug dries properly. Glad you continue to feel better, kellyr21 and that you are thinking about getting crafty again. That is a very good sign! We are home from dh's appointment. The specialist wrote him a prescription for a new c-pap, which is a good thing, as the one he has is over 16 years old! The old one wheezes and whistles and beeps any time he moves in bed. He has had to fix the mask a few times and the new mask doesn't fit the old machine properly, so I don't think he is getting the best benefit from it. Still a couple of steps to go to get the new machine but this is a good start! Didn't get my exchange cards signed and addressed as I had hoped yesterday at the hotel. So hoping to get them finished in the next few days. Also need to create some more cards for friends and family. Have a couple of plans on the go. Might get a few done on Saturday. This weekend we have a Christmas luncheon at the Seniors' on Friday, and then brunch at the local dinner theatre on Sunday. Then Monday I am doing some grandparenting and Tuesday we are cleaning the carpet.

Hello ladies! linda thinking of you and sending hugs and prayers nylene low water pressure is the worst! But how awesome to have a contractor in the family! I bet that shower felt divine! LisaDV that's such good news about DD. I need to clean carpets as well. I need to order a replacement container for my little home carpet cleaner before I can do that and somehow pretty paper is a higher priority grammadee I think a family movie and dinner is probably pretty special for that little guy. Rudy always jumps up to play any time we pause the movie lol. I'm glad DH is getting a new C-Pap 16 years is a long time! I have errands this morning and housework, then I hope to finish the LO I have going. No Rudy this weekend so I should get something done. I can't believe this month is nearly over all ready. I ordered my Thanksgiving dinner from Bob Evans yesterday. We are going to have Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas movie night here. Then at some point over that weekend I'm going to go see DS2 and take him for dinner as well. The drama he caused a few months ago has meant a rift between the kids and my DS1 won't be anywhere near him. Not until he's been clean at least 6 months, and so far that isn't happening. I hate it because I feel like I'm being forced to choose between them. It's a mess. I'm impatiently waiting for the BF scrappy sales and already placed an order from Pinkfresh for more things I don't need lol. I see a serious spending freeze on paper in my immediate future I need to get over to the sharing thread and check out all the lovelys there! Waving hi to everyone and hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Sunday evening, Pokeys. Hope you are all doing well. Have you started decorating for Christmas yet? I am hoping to get our tree up by the end of next weekend, but time will tell... I can't imagine a big holiday like American Thanksgiving this close to Christmas. What are your plans for that?
I have not done much craftwise in the last few days. Friday was a Seniors' Christmas luncheon put on by one of the local community groups. Yesterday I made a batch of no bake cookies, and put together a few birthday cards I need to send out this week. Have been putting together a few of the heart snowball cards I had cut the pieces for, but still have a few more to go. I am not good at doing one card design over and over...
Today dh and I attended the Sunday brunch presentation of the local theatre group's play. They do a good job of comedies, and it was good to laugh. We came home in time for dh to watch the Grey Cup, which is the football championship game in Canada. I addressed some cards, but that was all.
Tomorrow I need to drive to dd's to stay with dgs while Mom and Dad attend an event. Hoping to get up there early enough that I can stop at the Mall in the city for a bit of Christmas shopping before they need me. Tuesday, I am picking up the steam cleaner we are renting, and dd's hubby is coming here to move furniture and help with the carpet cleaning.
I need to make a bd card for my brother, and I have an idea of what I want it to look like. If I can figure out the logistics, I will get that done before I leave in the morning. (Just in case I forget by the time the carpet cleaning operation is done LOL)

Gramadee, I have never moved furniture to clean carpet. I hope you dont have to do much of the moving!
We are about to leave with 4 dgs for the border of panhandle of Texas. They all have a cold. Grandparents aren't in top condition either. The wind is blowing 35 miles an hour. Then predicting rain, sleet, snow. Grandpa wants to buy a kite. Hopefully we will survive .

Safe travels, @elaynef! Hopefully you all get through this unscathed, and that you have fun doing it. If the wind is that strong, maybe your dh should get more than one kite, in case the first one blows away!
Finished my brother's card, but my phone is dead, so can't take a photo. I have my phone charging while I get ready to leave and will plug it in again in the vehicle. Will post a photo of the card after I get back.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. It's been a very long week - exhausting in so many ways.
Tuesday we drove up to Williamsburg - arrived around 930pm and went out to dinner with DS where he announced that he had gotten Wed-Fri leave and would be driving up for the funeral. So I rode with him on Wednesday - long drive esp. since we were following DH around DC and he was followign GPS which wasn't working properly with the stacked highways and he kept going the wrong way. Got in about 1130pm.
Funeral was Thursday - we really hadn't expected many people but there was nearly 30 - a couple of cousins I hadn't seen in decades came and the rest were mostly classmates of my mum's from high school and college -even one who remembered her from Kindergarten. I was really touched that all those ladies ame out in the cold at 83/84 years old.
We did a small reception at mum's house - had a lovely conversation with one of her college friends (and her DH and 2 of her kids) - people I knew but hadn't sewn in 30+ years.
Then we tackled ONE room - six hours later we had only gotten through maybe 1/3 of it. But we had a ton for donations, a ton to try and sell to a used bookstore, a ton to toss, and some stuff for both me and my sister to bring home.
Friday - we did the bank and lawyer etc...and dropped off donations - we stuffed DS's suburban - it just had space for him to drive. Then DS had to head back to Virginia. Sorted through cookbooks - so many cookbooks. Found one Dad gave mum early in their marriage inscribed "in hopes" (mum wasn't a great cook esp. back then) and one my grandmother had inscribed "to Jean who is always on a diet" that was a dessert cookbook.. After my sister and BIL headed home, DH and I packed up photos, photo albums, family history memorabilia - I've become the keeper of all that and it's overwhelming. I'll post on the main GS board in a bit for suggestions
Saturday we drove back to VA and stayed overnight with DS and went out to breakfast with him before heading home. Made it home about 930 last night and unloaded just enough for DH to be able to collect DD13 and her gear (she stayed with friends all week and they took her to the Girl Scout campout)
So far today, I've unloaded the car, started dealing with laundry and stuff while DH is driving to Orlando to get DD19 for Thanksgiving.
Sorry not to respond individually to everyone - I really just wanted to check in quickly and then I'm back to working on stuff here. Looks like I'll be going back in January for 3-4 weeks to clean out the house. So I'll probably only be here (refupeas) sporadically for the next couple of months.

Linda , my first instinct is to offer Hugs and Hugs and Hugs. Such a difficult time for you. I am glad your trip, though long, was uneventful. How nice that old friends could come to give you support during the funeral. I remember when mom and dad were attending at least one funeral a week. They both outlived most of their friends. I'm so glad you have the family history and photos. You know they will be well cared for with you. Best wishes on your organization of all that material. We will miss you around here while you are tied up with family matters, but you will always be in our thoughts and we will welcome you here whenever you have the time. @elaynef , I am concerned for you and your traveling. Our news report talked about storms all through Texas. Please be careful. I'm sorry you are not all feeling great to start out on your trip. I hope that once you are stopped and hunkered down in a warm place you will all feel better. Keep us updated. joyfulnana , I am so sorry that your boys are not on good terms right now. We see that so often in our Recovery meetings, that family relationships become very fractured. I hope things improve and the rift can be mended. I am sending you hugs! Enjoy them both even if not together. Just keep loving them! Your Thanksgiving meal sounds wonderful! (can you tell I hate to cook?) grammadee , we don't always get the weather reports for Canada, but everything in the States looks like this is a terrible time to travel. I hope you have a safe trip and get to do some shopping too. I'm glad we don't Anj coming from CA for Thanksgiving. The Sierras look like they will be treacherous over the weekend. LisaDV , best wishes on your Thanksgiving. Did you get the carpet cleaning done or is that for this week? I'm glad DD is doing better. Has your DH's back been better? kellyr21 , do you plan to spend Thanksgiving with your parents or Ron's parents? I hope you have a wonderful time. The weather even looks bad for your area over the weekend. I hope you don't have to travel far. Today we took two of our girls to lunch together. It seems when all the family is around we don't get to visit as much. We talked and talked and caught up on all the news. DH has a hard time hearing even with his hearing aids, and sitting at a quiet table was great for him. Lots of laughs and fun remembrances! Off to see if I can accomplish something!

Thank you nylene. I've started typing up mum's memories - she wrote out so many of them longhand on legal paper. They are such a blessing to have. I hope my scrapbooks will be similar to my children when I'm gone. Safe travels for all those travelling this week - the weather looks forbiding over so much of the country. Stay safe!

@elaynef have a fun, safe trip! It sounds like it's going to be interesting for sure! grammadee I never move furniture to clean carpets either, I used to, but that's so much work and what's under the furniture is usually clean enough lol. linda so many hugs to you! It sounds like you have a long haul ahead on getting the house cleaned out but so many wonderful memories for you organize! I'm glad you got some extra time with DS even if it wasn't under happy circumstances. Pop in when you can, I will be thinking of you. nylene my mom doesn't hear well her hearing aids either, even at quiet tables lol. Your lunch sounds wonderful and I'm so glad you got some time with the girls. It really is hard when everyone comes together to spend any kind of quality time with everyone. I'm trying to catch up a little on the sharing thread. And then start cards! Eeek! lol. My tree will go up this weekend. Probably on Saturday. I don't even have plans for black Friday shopping. I haven't given too much thought to gifts yet. I just remember thinking last year that it definitely needed to be pared back. I can't believe how fast this year has gone.

Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends! Hope you are warm and safe with people who love you.
I am definitely THANKFUL for the friendship we found here.
Got my Pokey holiday cards into the mail today.

I wanted to pop in and say HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! I hope everyone has a wonderful day filled with family, friends and good food! The pokey peas are at the top of my list of things I'm thankful for this year!

Wishing all United States dwellers a very Happy Thanksgiving!
I think I am through with the scrapping for the month. We have had a death in the family and will have people arriving to stay starting tomorrow through the end of the month. This is our nephew's wife who has battled cancer for 2 years. We are their nearest (in distance) relatives and have met together often to have lunch or dinner. We are just heartbroken. She was the sweetest girl. Her husband will be so lost without her. We have been moving things around to make more space available for family. Of course, that means lots of cleaning and things I hadn't planned to do until after Thanksgiving. So the scrapping will have to wait. I'll get my cards out as soon as our company has gone back home.
I will jump on and start a new thread for December on Sat. December is almost here. I hope you are all hunkered down safe and warm. The weather here is terrible. I am sad that family will have to travel in this.
