I wanted to start a poll, but it seems we don't have the option of creating polls on the GS Challenges board. Darn it, I love polls! Anyway, I was just curious.... How many of the team players for November are going to be working "By The Book" (counting points) and how many are going for the "Streamlined November No worry Accounting" (taking set points for each project) option? I love to think up different ways to earn bonus points when I set challenges, but I'm now wondering whether I'm wasting my time, if no-one else is counting points! So joyfulnana , sleepingbooty , nylene , MDscrapaholic , lynnek , gramma , KikiPea , Tammiem2pnc1 , ComplicatedLady , refugeepea , @sunnycalimom , kitbop , grammadee , teacherlisa , boymom5 , dasmith2 , joblackford , christinec68 , gmcwife1 , cristelina , fairycat , azcrafty - how are y'all playing this month? Even though I love the points system, I get that it can be quite time consuming. I'd like to thank the team leaders and grammadee for coming up with an alternative for those who don't want to count points. And I'm really happy that it may bring in additional team players who may otherwise have not joined a team because of the points. The more the merrier!

I am not sure lol...I was so excited at first about the not counting points, but now I am just not sure. I was going to kind of watch what others were doing before I decided. Sorry that is not much help!

I'm all for counting points for the whole layout rather than searching through the challenges.

No worry accounting! The point system was too time consuming for me. I did layout but never got around to tallying the points.
Going to take a look at the new system tonight! Trying to relax from a crazy Day out with Thomas day lol

Leaning towards not counting challenge points (the no worries option).
I was trying to figure out if I'd be short-changing my team if I did one or the other but honestly I'm not sure which way will earn more points. I usually create cards in bulk, and this month I'm going to be doing a big (quick) photobook and 3 photo calendar projects that won't be much influenced by the challenges. I usually only find a handful of the challenges apply to what I make, so it's time consuming to scroll through them to calculate. And I'm going to be traveling at the end of the month, so all in all I think the new system will work better for me.
I think the bonuses and twists are fun though. If you're being inspired by the challenges it's fun to have some extra challenges in there!

I'm leaning toward not counting points. I have a lot of projects going on that aren't scrapbooking and I think I can tally more points for the team but not going by the books.

Hmmm, it looks like so far I'm the only one definitely counting points, with teacherlisa teeter tottering. I was trying to figure out if I'd be short-changing my team if I did one or the other Not that I want to talk anyone out of counting points but that needn't be a consideration. It's all about what works best for you, and nobody is going to worry that someone could have earned more points for the team if they had done it the other way. I have worked out a few little tricks to help make the point calculation quicker. * For starters, I use the Excel spreadsheet so it does all the calculations for me. * I do the points after each layout rather than waiting for the end of the month. (I waited until the end of the month once - never again!) * I colour code each challenge into categories such as: products (nuvo dots, flowers, metal, ribbon); themes (summer, Christmas, birthdays, travel); journaling & title; technique (embossing, make from scratch, stamping); colour/shapes/patterns; number & size of photos.* I blank out the challenges that I will definitely not do (these are mainly challenges that cannot be done digitally or are USA specific) * If there are bonus points for any challenge I bold that part so it stands out Of course it helps that I do digital scrapping, so my computer is always turned on and the Excel spreadsheet is always open. I don't have to go to the effort of turning the computer on just to calculate points.

I don't wanna count points, I just wanna scrap. I'm working on my December Daily (my first!) and I've already got 50 points with some purchases I made for that LOL. Plus three for the challenges I listed.
I'll go along with whatever the team wants to do.

I like counting the points. I love that spreadsheet and filling in the points. I also get motivation looking through the different challenges to see what might spark an idea for a page. I like your idea of color coding the challenges! So, I will probably continue to count points.

I personally love counting my points and I love using challenges for inspiration to take an "extra step" on my layouts. But I think the "no bother accounting" is a fabulous addition to accomodate both sides of this equation - we just want as many people to play and share here as possible! For my team, please don't worry about which you choose, just glad to have a group of ladies to share my hobby with

I love the challenges but I'm such a slow scrapper that I don't ever earn many points for the team. Tallying points doesn't bother me as I do it when I finish each layout. And the spreadsheet is genius!! I've already seen several challenges that I want to do (and set some this month) but I feel like I will probably earn more points counting per project. So I'm going to give that a try this month. If it turns out I would have earned more points meeting challenges, then I will probably go back to counting points lol. So of course this will be probably be what could have been my biggest points month and I won't be counting points Argh now I'm thinking about all of the challenges this month that I want to do and climbing back on the fence

No idea. This is my second challenge other than CARDtober, and I'm a card maker so probably will skip challenges which are very specific for scrapbooking.

Counting points during Cardtober was hard because I got behind by about 8 cards and it was a chore to do them. When I am just scrapping, I finish the layout and count the points. I don't plan to do a lot of cards this month, so will probably count points. I like seeing the challenges over and over to remind me to add those things that just sit in my scraproom.

They're very helpful, especially for newbies and sorta-newbies like me I use the spreadsheet (so much easier!) but I need to customize it like you do. I'm not sure why I haven't. There are always tons that I know aren't relevant to me, or only relevant if I'm digi-scrapping or only for cards, and then others that I earn points on every project. I should definitely color code, especially when there are so many challenges. It's definitely far worse to tackle it if you get behind! I had a rough time last month because my laptop was out of commission for the first couple of weeks and then I would make 6-12 cards per day for a few days in a row, some all the same, some individual projects. Once I got a little bit behind I didn't want to think about it, so it kept getting worse. I might do both counts for the first couple of weeks when I'm not so busy and see how it goes. I need to get photos from another family member for the photobook and then I usually spend Thanksgiving week at her place working on the book, in which case I'll have my laptop with me, so -shrug- I'm not sure.

I can count points. I haven't looked into the streaming option. Most of my pages this month will be in divided sheet protectors, so there won't be much to add up. It will be mostly photos.

I try to make my challenges suitable for scrapbooking and cards, as well for digital and paper scrappers. But yes, probably a third of my challenges would work for scrapbooking only.

I’m leaning toward counting challenge points, but we’ll see how I feel at the end of the month! I’ve been scrapping travel notebook size, which is about 4x8, but I scrap them like I would bigger pages so I’m afraid I’ll really shortchange myself if I just count 10-15 points per page. On the other hand, I tend to get way behind and end up scrambling to count points on the 3rd of the month after the points are due. By that point (ha!) I may just quick count page points and be done. Lol—does that help at all?

Must we pick just one or can we do both through the month, electing one method for some projects, the other for the rest?

Great question, AussieMeg! I think I will “officially” use the new system, but will use the challenges for ideas and inspiration. But I will hopefully tally the challenge points “by the book” on paper if I have time.

I’m not sure if I’ll count them or not. Counting isn’t my favorite even though I don’t rack up many points but I love the challenges!

NOt sure how long I have to count mine, so I'm still trying to decide. I was dumb and didn't calculate as I went along, so we'll see how long it takes me to do the first LO. I have 10. OOPS.
